In Matthew 26:24 he called himself the “son of man”

In Mark 14, he said he was the son of the blessed and did not say he was God

Free will is the potential for love and also suffering. No freedom would have neither love or suffering. There are only two possibilities. If you want one you have to accept the potential for the other too. We are not automatons.
