Who was Jesus married to. I am a Catholic who grew up in the Baptist Church and I never heard that. If he was married,why wasn't the wife present when Jesus hung from the Cross and why did Jesus pick a disciple to take care of his mother.

I made an error in my comment. In the first paragraph I should had said married men, whose children are grown and living on their own might be the next group that could become priests. Wives would probably have some church obligations.

No one is forced to become a priest. When you take the vows of priesthood, you are agreeing that you will not get married. Many priests stop being priests and get marry. Many follow other Christian endeavors. They cannot administer church sacraments.
