I think the bigger question would be why are people so offended when their beliefs are challenged?
Every one should be willing to defend their beliefs. In fact, we should welcome the challenge so that we challenge our own beliefs to help ourselves from being duped.
They are offended because it is their truth that they want other people to accept. For the most part, everyone is determined to defend their beliefs, even at the risk of being ignorant to the facts.
When a "different" revelation is presented to you, it is your responsibility to "...SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES..." according to Acts 17:11, pray and ask God for the Truth in His Word! Rising Glory, I agree that we "should welcome the challenge..!"
But not everything is in that Bible and so said that in that Bible.
You are right Lady! Did you not see this in given scriptures Jer 31:33,Heb 8:10;10:16? The Holy Spirit (Jesus) is "...putting laws into our hearts and writing them in our minds..." Jesus is Alive and Working in us (believers) today! BENEFITS!!!
People question other people's beliefs because usually, the 'believer' imposes their belief on those who do not, not only as their belief but as truth. So, really it's the truth that's usually questioned and the believers' determination to deny the truth that is questionable.
It is written... Learn to "Study" according to II Tim 2:15 in accordance with John 23-24 for "interpretation" not for "information" (James 1:5)
Actually, I find it wrong if they question other people's beliefs.
Unless "the other's belief" is so obviously wrong (or hateful/discriminating) then they should actually question their own belief based upon relevant input from "the other".
Not according to what Jesus did in Scripture!
Ego!
I'm right and you're wrong. Me versus you. Separation. Self-concern.
Everyone has imperfect beliefs. Everyone! And thus, we need the humility to realize this and to be ever hungry and humble to find new answers.
But we need to remain loving (non-separation), and without self-concern. We should never need payback for our love. We should not need the other person to have our beliefs, because ours are still imperfect.
Truth exists. The Truth will set you free. And that Truth is a form of Love that transcends the physical. It takes responsibility for everything that happens to ourselves, even from our enemies. It transcends space and time.
No one can reach this by clinging to old beliefs or forcing them upon others. Only with Love -- the opposite of Ego.
Thank you lone77star for your answer, I suppose some people want to know sincerely what we believe in and some people are just interested in what we believe in.
II Tim 2:15 "STUDY..." for "interpretation" not for "information" according to John 4:23-24!
Quoting scripture does not make it truth. I have been tld that I think I am always right and that is NOT truth. They think they are always right and that is untruth. They do not see the difference in what they are doing vs others.
Lady: If you do not "believe" you're right! It does not apply to you and from your perspective, it is not truth! But "try Jesus" if only for "promised benefits!"
What an assumption of another. Pity you can only see that. I have Jesus right where he put himself. I do no always think that I am right, but I can and do read that Bible all the time. I also read other letters and stories about him.
We all must remember that people learn and are taught a little at a time, and that if God wants to reveal something to someone through us He will. When we tell others what we have been shown, it may take years for them to understand it. If it is from God, they will eventually come to know it as truth.
If everyone will keep this in mind, they won’t get upset when challenged.
God is a little different to each person, because of what we need greatest in/from Him
Isaiah 28:5, 6
5 In that day shall the Lord of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,
6 And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
Isaiah 28:10
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Thank you for your answer Deborah . I guess you are quite right that some people are still searching for enlightenment and if we are ask about our beliefs and then we can share what we believe in. It is up to the people to agree or disagree.
Yes thank you liesl5858 I feel we have to learn in our own way and time. There are some who will never understand
Jesus "accused" & questioned "why" (as we should) the scribes & pharisees throughout the book of Matthew. Matthew 28:19 says, "Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations..." Therefore, as a disciple of Jesus, that is what we should do! Verse 20 says, "Teaching them to observe "ALL THINGS" whatsoever I have commanded you..." Jesus was speaking to the disciples and that is what we are supposed to do, "...Observe all things the Apostles did" "AFTER THOSE DAYS" (Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 8:10; 10:16) under the New Covenant - Grace and Truth! Do we do that? NO!
Therefore, I continue to "question" religion baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit according to Matthew 28:19!
Did not Jer 31:33, Heb 8:10, & 10:16 say, "This is the covenant that I will make with them "AFTER THOSE DAYS," saith the LORD, I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS, AND IN THEIR MINDS WILL I WRITE THEM?" With that being said BY THE LORD (Holy Spirit/Jesus), & we live in the dispensation of "AFTER THOSE DAYS" after Christ resurrected, after the Holy Spirit came in Acts 1, which Jesus promised in John 14:26, on the day the ORIGINAL CHURCH was established (THE DAY OF PENTECOST), then why are we not "OBSERVING "ALL THINGS" that the Apostles did" and doing them?
When the Holy Spirit came in Acts 1, ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST, the Apostles starting baptizing ONLY in the Name of the Lord Jesus! Acts 2:42 says, "And they continued in the apostles' doctrine..." which was not the apostles' doctrine because the HOLY SPIRIT (Jesus) according to Jer 31:33, Heb 8:10 and 10:16, JESUS was "putting His laws into their minds, & writing them in their hearts" as he does with us today, which makes it Jesus' Doctrine!
We must learn to "rightly divide the Word" according to II Timothy 2:15! We must be as the Bereans were in Acts 17:11 "...in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY, WHETHER THOSE THINGS WERE SO."
Yes Debbie, we have been "commanded" to "Teach all nations..." & to question, WHY, when the Word of God HAS NOT BEEN "RIGHTLY DIVIDED!" II Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for DOCTRINE, for REPROOF, for CORRECTION, for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS!"
Debbie, you are right in saying, "people learn & are taught a little at a time, but it is our responsibility to do according to I Cor 3:6 says, "I have planted, Apollos watered, BUT GOD gave the increase!"
Love
Some people want to metaphorically push buttons, some people are legitimately curious, and some people just want to pass the time.

Why do people of different religions constantly argue which is the the "true" religion? It seems like a never ending cycle. It seems like a war of words. I became caught in it at one time myself. I don't know that anyone will ever win it?
