What is actually the purpose of a humans life.

Are there any criteria or measurements to define how successfully one has lived his life.

    Hi Swati,
It's a great question. I ask that to myself almost all the time. I don't think the life's purpose has anything to do with success in the first place.
Its about being happy; being at peace with yourself. Money can't buy that; neither can success. It may please you momentarily, but it won't be long before the gloom sets in again.
One thing that i believe is the purpose is to live for the happiness of others. How often do we do something for others while we are engrossed in our own material pleasures? Well, you need to answer that to yourself!
We have to find a way to live for others. Have you ever tried helping a friend/ a complete stranger/ an elderly person/ a poor helpless person in need? Believe me, you! It will make your life worth living. There's a kick to that. Not that you are getting anything material out of it but it sure does put your mind at ease and peace.
I've found humanity in more animals than I did in humans and we are at the top of the food chain.
Christ, there must be a reason why humans evolved so much and other organisms didn't. Well if we did, how can we mess everything what we have created? Probably De-Evolution would be a better idea for the human race? Or who knows, if that's exactly where we are heading!!
So, start now! Lets HUMANIZE THE HUMANS and LIVE FOR OTHERS instead of ourself. Because that's our calling and that's our refuge from this unforgiving, sickening life that we have created for us.

It is whatever you think it is. What I think is mine. What somebody else thinks is theirs. You must choose your own before you start getting paid for fulfilling others'.

I agree Mridul...every one thinks differently and have right to live thier life in their way but still society and the surrounding people do affect what we think and thus the way we live .
and there must be some common goal for all as a human being.

The Criteria can sometimes be seen in the form of stupors, temples and churches built with Faith and Love by millions of followers of the Christ, Buddha, Krishna and others. People also gladly die for what these prophets taught. It can also be seen in the peaceful way of the devout and the mark that they leave on their children and followers, as well as the influence that they have had on society and continue to do till this day.

We can say that the life of the Christ was a success in the sense that Christianity has produced many men and women of God, who in turn has influenced the world. Same with Buddha, Krishna and others.

Success is defined by inner Peace which is essentially an inner quality of the Heart which invokes Love or Joy. It is an individual and personal experience and each one will experience it according to the nature of the Higher Forces, and one's receptivity and Consciousness. This requires an inward journey through prayer, solitude, meditation or all combined.

Life is a sojourn of the Soul to re-discover its true Nature. It has forgotten that it came from Bliss/Ananda, and so it is in isolation, separated from its Source, and the whole journey is a process, through experience, of re-awakening to its Higher Light. In Love and Joy.
