Why do Christians hate Atheists so much? sad

I mean, religious freedom is a human right, but is it wrong for anyone who isn't a Christian to have religious freedom too?

But some atheists have condescending attitudes themselves, and a lack of tolerance for people who aren't "open minded" and "enlightened" like them.  And one could argue that they secretly believe in God smile

I don't really see an issue with a lack of tolerance for non open minded people. The internet is a thing nowadays.

Some atheists surely "secretly" believe in God...unless they tell you they don't and give solid reasons as to why. Repeatedly. Alot.

Face it, Link - the believers cannot understand the concept of non-belief, no matter how many times we say it. We do not believe in a god or gods. Over and over and over and over and over and over...

The hell stuff is crazy. However I think "tough love" is very appropriate. Why? To promote religious intolerance is an inhuman act as it is cultural genocide. This has to be treated with vigorous blunt criticism.

It's because the Bible tells us so. My parents were extremely religious Evangelicals, and they taught us to fear anyone who didn't believe in God, because that person was a demon, sent by the Devil to trick us into giving our souls to Satan.
So as a survival tactic, I was fearful of atheists because they were using their connection with Satan to cause me irreparable harm. And why would they want to do something like this? Just plain evil...those atheists...
Also, when you talk to an atheist, he/she will eventually make more sense than the Bible, and that causes Cognitive Dissonance...which we were told to ignore, because it is a trick from Satan. These atheists are so evil...trying to trick us into roasting in Hell for eternity.
I was taught that Satan is a brilliant deceiver.  And we must fear Satan, so eventually the fear turns to hatred. Hatred of Satan....and his demons.

Not all Christians hate atheists. A lot of them are mature adults who can coexist with people who do not share their beliefs.

However, just about every group of people has its bad apples, Christians included. I've seen it for myself. Some Christians can be pretty nasty to those they perceive as different. Like anything negative, it's best to avoid them when you can.

Religious freedom is a human right. Nobody can ever take that away from you.

Believers hate non-believers because they have been taught to do so. They have been taught to hate anything outside of the purview of their holy books. They have been taught this starting at very young ages, therefore it is difficult if not impossible to overcome this hatred.

Humans are prone to be centric and high-minded in their beliefs and they just hate sometimes.  I do think most want to live in peace, though, and whatever thoughts they carry in private reflection is their own affair.  I don't know that Christians actually "hate" Atheists, but I would pose that a significant number fear or feel frustrated by the argument Atheism presents or even that of Buddhism, which doesn't endorse any of the gods.  Even those within the Christian system have denounced their own mystics as heretics and Islam tries to pretend Sufism does not exist by essentially ignoring it, so it's a no-win situation with some no matter how you look at it.

To the second part of the question, no, it is not wrong for non-Christians to have theosophical, philosophical or intellectual freedom in an open and diverse society.

Christians who hate are not following the teaching of Jesus Christ who taught us the love one another and to love our enemies and pray for them who treat us treacherously. If we love our enemies, that would include the enemy who is atheist.

Christians who hate atheist must reconsider their position, pray and seek confirmation to actually Live Jesus's Teachings by loving them. That does not mean throwing holy water on them either. It means kindness and neighborliness. You never know what kind acts and words could touch the hearts of people who will then seek Christ.

Unkind acts makes atheist hate Christians. It seems that hating Christians is the big thing now though.

Love this answer.  It should be Best Answer.

  10. Ericdierker profile image45
    Ericdierkerposted 8 years ago

Strange thing this hate. If you look it is not everywhere. Love is everywhere. I just assume your question really means why do "some" Christians hate? And indeed why so some Christians hate? It just makes no spiritual or logical sense. I think we have all heard it said hate is fear turned outward.
But of Christians it is the epitome of backwards. Love is the hallmark. Not even the crusades or inquisitions were hate - they were clearly power brokers convincing others. But not out of hate - greed and power for sure but not hate.
So I suppose we have to ask why does anyone hate? There is a lot of psychobabble about it. But it seems like a nature deal that comes with fight of flight and fear.
So the real question is "why do some Christians not follow their faith and deny hatred?" I reckon we all know the answer and that is because their faith is not strong enough to overcome a natural tendency. If you see a Christian that is full of hate toward another. Either pray for them or walk away completely. But do not mistake fervently defending their faith with hate.

Maybe it is because the bible teach the following F***ed up stuff

    2 John 1:9-11

Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

    Deuteronomy 13:6-10

“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife you embrace or your friend who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which neither you nor your fathers have known, some of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. But you shall kill him. Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

And according to the bible athiest are the anti christ and are evil

    John 1:7
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Christianity is a F***ed up religion, we should encourage people to convert away from it.

My parents never told me "you cant be friends with someone of another religion" but they did tell me that it would be a sin to marry someone of another religion. They told me that I would be severely punished by X God if I ever questioned him. I think that this is a huge problem and a way of bullying your kids into following their beliefs. That's why I am now a happy Atheist and I would never try and shove my beliefs down someones throat let alone hate someone because of their beliefs.

Not all Christians hate atheists.  Enlightened, progressive, liberal, & evolved Christians accept Atheists, realizing that the latter is on his/her particular moral path as they are.  They maintain that each person is different & such differences should be encourage, nurtured, & respected.  Such Christians feel the same towards all ethical, moral, & spiritual beliefs.

However, conservative, dogmatic, fanatical, fundamentalist, & traditional Christians have a less than positive attitude towards Atheists & those who are of non-Christian beliefs.  They assert that their religious belief is the only legitimate form of belief.  They may go as far to avow that those who don't believe as they do are in error, lost, & even damned.  They are not above using methods of manipulation & proselytizing in order to get those whom they feel aren't with their program to conform.

Yes, there are some among the more conservative elements of Christians who actually hate Atheists because they view atheism & other forms of non-belief as inherently evil.  They may even contend that Atheists somehow are in "league w/Satan" as they don't believe in God.  They also have similar views of non-Christians, seeing them as somewhat amiss in the divine scheme of things.  They would like nothing more than to have a worldwide Christian hegemony.

  17. hakeem122 profile image54
    hakeem122posted 8 years ago

    They don't. Atheists may be:
    Annoyed by proselytizing
Opposed to efforts to push Christian morality into law or public policy.
Annoyed by judgmental Christians who criticize atheists
Resentful over experiences of being controlled, punished, rejected or ostracised by Christians in their own life (This occurs mostly among  atheists who were once socially involved and practicing Christians)

They may hate the control that they perceived Christian leaders held over them. They may fear or hate the manipulative tactics that may have been employed to maintain that control. But that hate and resentment is much more common in younger, less-confident atheists. As an older atheist, one realizes that Christians have only as much power as you cede them.

Christians who hate Atheists should not call themselves Christians. If you are a Christian – you believe in God. If you believe in God, you believe in love. For, God is love. He loves unconditionally and does not hate and Christians strive to be like Christ. Therefore, Christians should not hate.

I grew up in a similar situation. To me, there are some "Christian" basics that are taught, but there is much more religious logic that isn't taught. The Bible has many examples of people who questioned God. In fact, in my opinion, those who DON'T question, seldom learn the truth, and never have a REAL personal relationship with God, but remain in a cookie-cutter mold, never having a true understanding of God and what he really expects from us.
I don't believe for a minute that God wants anyone to hate people. He knows that we are all formed like, having self-serving tendencies, which is the root of just about all sin. We all do wrong...different levels, different sins. To me, the Bible seems more intent on hating the sin and not the sinner.
I do believe that a Christian who has a unique walk with God (still imperfect BTW), can put their relationship in danger with God by marrying or dating someone of a different religion. That doesn't mean that we should HATE them. It also doesn't mean that God will send us to hell if we chose to marry or date someone of another religion...even Atheists.
It is sad to me that so-called "religions" have so diluted real Biblical truth to the point where people are turned away from it, and hate it. A real relationship with God is just that. I see it as a parent/child relationship. God HAS been called "our Heavenly Father" for eons, yet anyone who has children should be able to draw a clear parallel between their relationship with their kids, and their relationship with God. What parent enjoys ONLY hearing from their children when they are in trouble, and need a miracle way out? Yet we tend to look at God as some supposed genie in a bottle when we are in trouble. If we help our kids and they are thankless and unappreciative, we might do less for them the next time, but we seldom ever abandon them. We love them, and want the best for them amid the fact that they don't always please us.
There are examples of Jesus dining with and walking among those who were hated by orthodox "religions". Jesus came to earth for EVERBODY, including those who don't think they need Him. He didn't even hate those who tortured and killed Him, and uttered in death, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do". Anyone who calls that "hate" is a fool.

I dont think this could be verified by the Bible, unless you just pretend that it says just what you desire it to say. Jesus clearly talks about a different God in the New Testament, than in the Old, but says they are the same. This makes no sense..

I'm not sure what you think "can't be verified by the Bible". Most people, especially preachers, spend so much time complicating the simple. I don't understand it all myself. The part about the Father/Child relationship is almost common sense to me.

As a father, I would never allow my son to be killed just to appease a savage blood offering, that I myself put into place, when I have all the power to change that rule. What kind of father/child relationship is that?

Well, Getitrite, we were taught about the Trinity...the Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost. The logic that all three were one is difficult, but it's what we were taught. IF they three were one, Then God sent Himself to die. It's what I was taught.

Why do Atheists hate Christians so much?
Christianity is a theistic mind set.  Atheism is not.  Both those groups have individuals in them with strong belief in their point of views who can't hear the opposing view without a strong negative reaction.  A live and let live attitude can't be maintained when some other insists on belittling and shouting down a core way of life.  There is going to be conflict.  And honestly there are people on both sides that chose to antagonize, belittle and literally hate the other. They LIVE to antagonize the other.  We see it in  Hub discussions like this all the time.

Until a certain vocal minority of Atheists and Christians can avoid reacting like matter and antimatter in each other's presence, the adversarial public discord will continue.

Hi, my share of thought is Christians do not hate Atheist. A true Christian does not hate people. The truth is a Christian is a believer and follower of Christ. Jesus. His command is to love not hate..even those who persecute you. I am reluctant to divulge more at this point. But I want to apologize to those who felt Christians hate them. I want you to know that is not true for a Christian. I just have to add this.. Jesus came to save because of love and not hate. His entire ministry speaks love, grace and compassion. Never hate and judgment. Please know your Christian. They would not have if they were. Speaking in peace.

Christians are never taught to hate. We disagree just like you disagree with us. Anyone showing hatred is not a representative of the Lord of the Bible. Our religious rights are more restricted than atheists. Trust me you can talk about your non belief in God but when people preach the Lord in high positions they get in trouble. Jewish hate crimes are higher than any other group. Also there is a Christian Genocide by the muslims going on in the middle east. I would say you are the ones who have the most freedom. How can you say otherwise?

Christians don't hate atheist.  We just don't agree with their findings. It seems that atheist are the group of people that are always trying to take our religious artifacts down claiming that they offend them.

Atheist are responsible for taking prayer out of school . They won't be happy until they have completely driven God out of the world.  They will someday have to answer their maker for their actions.
