What is the difference between a pledge and a tithe?

I believe that one pledges to an organization and a tithe is to God. I ancient times the the tithe that went to the temple was supposed to take care of the needs of the widows and ophans, the sick and the needy, as well as pay for the operation of the temple. Today our churches and our governments can't or won't do it all so part of our tithe must go to those who are willing to fill in the cracks. That is why part of you tithe can go to help Katrina victums rebuild their homes or to the Red Cross.
