It's always wise to know you aren't smart enough to know everything and there is no shame in seeking counsel from those who are more experienced and, hopefully, wiser.
So ask others for their opinion. You don't have to take it but it gives a different perspective and take on the situation.
When there is no one to consult, if you are absolutely alone, flipping a coin or going on your gut feeling is, at least,, 50% possibly the right thing to do.
You aren't alone in this world... ask others their opinion. If it is too embarrassing to ask a friend there are many help lines out there and there are always priests (I'm not religious at all) who are often not bad at being impartial decision makers.
Schools often have counselors who are mostly impartial and experienced in problem solving.
You don't have to accept anyone's opinion but it will give you a view from someone else and that can't hurt.
