   Basically according to milankovitch cycles - we are supposed to be in a mini ice age right now akin to the Dark Ages. So maybe global warming is not all that bad?

   I have a feeling that by the time 2012 gets here we will all be sick of this question.  If you look here on HubPages there is god alone knows how many answers and Hubs on the subject both for and against.....
   
   For what it's worth I guess I will reiterate what I've already said more than once....
   
   The year will only be 2012 to the Christians because of their bizarre attempts to back calculate as to when Christ was born.  They’ve had at least three goes at this, plus with the conversion to the Gregorian calendar and the adding of Leap Days and Seconds we have no idea what idea this year actually is.   For the sake of those who print calendars, diaries and airline time schedules let’s just assume it’s 2011.
   
   Who knows when the Mayan Calendar started when compared to the one we use, one thing is guaranteed though they sure as Hell weren’t Christians that’s for sure!
   
   So if you were planning to blow your life savings on doing everything you ever wanted to do this year and running up a huge Credit Card bill on the understanding you won’t have to pay it back.... Then my advice would be,  Think Again !!!

   no it will end five months after May 21,2011 when God bring judgment on man.need to read the whole Bible and God has to open your eye but read Revelation book six and at vs 17 or 6 it read, for the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?

   The ending of calendar does not mean the end of the world.
   The Mayan probably thought they would not be around to use it. And every calendar has to end sometime. A good place the stop may be during the our unique alignment with the center of our galaxy that falls on 2012. The end-time believers have been crying doom for 2000 years. I thought Christians  were told not to meddle with astrology. I would not worry about it for my own reasons.

   Anything is possible; however, I heard there was a miscalculation. The Mayan calendar is 50-100 years off. Why? The conversion of dates from the Mayan calender to our modern Gregorian calendar are not right. The conversion used a GMT (not Greenwich Mean Time) constant. Evidence supporting GMT as a reliable constant is weak. This doomsday event has been rescheduled.

    I agree with badegg its just Y2K over again so people can up their fear factor and commercialize on the chaos. If I'm wrong so be it but until then I'm not living this year with the fear of impending doom.

    Thank you all for your answers.Some of them were cracking and made me laugh my guts out. Merlin i was planning to buy 9-10 credits cards of all big banks, yr warning shattered my dreams. On a serious note i asked this question because of the drastic climatic changes which are being seen in almost all parts of the world makes the end of the world or DOOM DAY point much stronger. However we can not really predict or tell when that will happen. But one thing is sure if we continue to use our natural resources the way we are doing right now then end of the world is inevitable.

    It does not matter to me. Why worry about something we have no control over? I prefer to live each day as best I can and try to give back some of the joy that I've received from people I've met along the way. For some people, 2012 could be tomorrow. We never know.

    No, if you'll read in the Bible in revelations, it talks about the rapture. The event in which Jesus Christ comes back and all the living Christians are taken from the earth to heaven. Seven years of tribulation will follow this in which the Antichrist, believed to be a political figure will rule the earth in a one world government.
    
    No one will be able to buy or sell without possessing the Mark of the beast, as illustrated in the Bible the number 666. The Bible illustrates that the second coming of Christ will be as quick as a thief in the night and that no one will know the exact time.
    
    The year, month, date and time no one will know until it happens. None of these things have come to pass yet.

    I cannot exactly remeber how many doomsdays I already survived in my life.  As 2012 is approaching, there will be new day for end of the world set up. End of the world is big bussiness and source of manipulation - it keeps people focused on fear and destructivity instead of creativity.

    The Mayan had several calandars, the one that everyone is saying is the doomsday one, is called the LONG COUNT CALENDAR, which marks the end of a long count, a cycle of 5,128 years. The Mayan counted time in cycles called ba’k’tuns, 144,000 days cycle that add up to approximately 394 years. The thirteen (13000) ba’k’tuns equal one long count, and the current long count began in 3114 BCE, will end in 2012. But it’s not the end of the world according to the ancient Mayan. The Mayan say it will reset back to 0, the next rest date, should be December 21, 2012; some consider it to be the New age of Transformation.  All I could say we have many things taking place around the worldwide, from the earthquakes to the volcanoes erupting to the solar events that are also taking place, like the Milky Way Galactic Alignment which is to take place also on December 21, 2012. Also the solar storm which PHD Physics Minchio Kaku, say will be the mother of Suns flares, which will wipe out our electronics and will cost us a lot of money, that he says should occur in January 20, 2013. There are so many things being said that I’m not sure what is real or what is fake anymore. I tell you this put your trust in the lord and believe in him, because only thru him will we be saved.

Christ will come to rule his kingdom and if some of you actually understood your Bible and took account for all that is written and all that has happened and what will be; you would pay attention to what is going on all around the world. Our egotistic government and many other governments are investing billions of dollars into a sea vault for storage of seeds and many atributes pertaining to this grand solar flare headed this way. They are and have been for many years building living accomidations in mountains. The Mason's are building under ground... It has all been in the news then told to shut up as not to freakout the public. This earth will never end for it is and will be the new heaven. The mayans do not perdict a means to an end daaaa let get with it ppl. Where will you hide?

    No, it will not. Actually, the idea that 2012 is the end of the world is a relatively modern notion. The Mayan calendar simply predicts the end of one cycle and the beginning of another, which they not only weren't afraid of, but were happy to look forward to because it signified a time of renewal. They had a calendar for the cycle before and probably would have had one for the cycle after if they hadn't been destroyed. Which brings up another point: if they could predict the end of the world, why couldn't they predict the end of their civilization? lol but in all seriousness, I sincerely doubt the world will end this year.
