Astral Projection (Paranormal – Part 1)

Updated on November 1, 2012

Astral Projection--Power of Mind

Each time I decipher a different dimension of the human mind, I see myself delving more in to the unexplored and intriguing depths of our ‘core of consciousness’ which we so proudly carry on our shoulders—the head. Inside this seemingly small head, lies a vast expanse, constituting the limitless, boundless and seamless layers of consciousness. We spend most part of our lives, totally unaware of the massive potential which our subtle brain has. Some people are fortunate enough to get acquainted with its latent power, in the process of coming face to face with some unexplained and mystical spiritual phenomenon, which can, in some cases, be simply electrifying. Again, such experiences can occur accidentally (on their own), or can be consciously induced. Although, there are people who teach the self-induced techniques for triggering of spiritual experiences, yet, I prefer the natural way. I believe that an apple should be plucked from the tree when it’s ripe which means that a person should expose himself to such phenomena when he is completely ready and spiritually mature to handle the effects caused, as otherwise it might leave long lasting fears and jitters in the mind.

Astral Projection

I’ve always wondered why only a few chosen ones are blessed with the power of being able to master some amazing techniques like Telekinesis, Astral projection, Out of Body Experiences (OBE), psychic abilities, teleporting, telepathy and lucid dreaming. As a young adult, I used to think that such people are perhaps born with the abilities to see beyond the realms of the ethereal self but with the passage of time it dawned on me that such abilities are a result of the spiritual evolution of the soul and the accumulated Karma, which again brings our attention to our ‘Past life’ actions. As our soul journeys through time, seeking one body after the other, it attains maturity on a spiritual level and brings us closer to our ‘Ultimate Realty’, our consciousness. All our good deeds in the Past and Present accumulate and we attain the realization of the purpose of our existence and also our source and destination. The ‘Third eye’ opens and we become conscious of ourselves being a part of the cosmos as a whole. This is the stage of spiritual awakening. As we reach this level, disassociating / disconnecting our consciousness from our physical state becomes easier. We are able to travel anywhere in the cosmos without the help of our physical body and this process is termed as Astral Projection.

Astral Projection---Déjà vu

The process of astral projection might last only from a few seconds to a few minutes but during that exceptionally short time we might see places which we have never seen with our physical eyes before. It makes me wonder if Déjà vu can be a result of such out-of body-experiences in some cases. Nothing can be said for certain, though. Déjà vu has also been attributed to a recollection of past life memories. However, the mystery still remains unraveled. Speaking for myself, I had a similar experience when I walked into the school building with my son on his first day at High School. As I was climbing up the staircase of an 8-storey building, I had a weird feeling that I had been there before, several times; the feeling became more intensified as I touched the hand rails while climbing the stairs. I wonder how I dreamt of his name in the list of selected candidates (in the State Test) much before his results were out. Strange are the ways in which our brain functions. It’s hard to imagine the extent to which our brain impulses reach; it can see through the closed doors and locked drawers of the examiners. :)  Dangerous…isn’t it?

Simple Techniques for Astral Projection

For those who want to practice this area of paranormal, I would suggest getting acquainted with deep meditation first whereby a practitioner learns how to keep his mind awake even when the body sleeps. Astral projection requires your mind to be awake and as such you have to train your body to slip into a state of perfect peace and relaxation so as to let your mind travel. Here are some simple ways to get started:

1. It is not necessary to sit cross legged as in conventional meditation as the purpose is to put the physical body at rest. This can be achieved while sitting in a reclining chair or even by lying on your back in your bed. Some trainers suggest morning as the best time for this practice as that time your body is completely rested and there are less chances of falling asleep due to exhaustion.

2. Close your eyes and breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Try to breathe in through nose and exhale through mouth. After a few minutes of focusing on breathing, let loose your body and try not to pay attention to any part of your body. Your focus should be on your mind and your thoughts. Don’t try to control thoughts as that would indirectly bind you to your physical state.

3. After a few minutes of closing your eyes and constant (effortless) deep breathing, try to see through the darkness with your mind’s eye. (A well balanced chakra system and opened Third eye helps here). Gradually the darkness will get replaced by different color patterns. These are simple neural discharges so don’t worry about them. Try to look beyond these colors. To cross this level would take a lot of practice. It doesn’t happen easily.

4. Post level 3 as above, some people soon get into the vibration stage which is when the body experiences minor jolts or the feeling may even manifest in the form of throbbing or trembling. When this level is reached, it means that the body is ready for astral projection. Some people get so much overcome with fear at this stage that they freak out at the idea of leaving their physical self. If this happens, the practice should be stopped there and then. There is no point in pushing yourself to do something for which you are not prepared. Such practices are meant to bring peace rather than fear. Vibrations can also be induced by certain techniques which I’m not mentioning here as I believe that ‘inducing’ would amount to placing yourself at the war front when you’re not ready to handle the cross fire. Let it come naturally to you.

5. As soon as the body vibrates, get ready to leave your body. The key point is to maintain control over your mind and the state which you are in. If your mind wanders, you will tend to lose hold over that state of mind and you will not be able to disconnect with your physical body. More importantly, do not fear and do not get overwhelmed.

6. In the vibration stage, visualize yourself getting lighter and lighter till the consciousness rises and leaves your body. Another technique (if you’re lying on your back) is to roll over without moving your physical body. It needs tremendous control over your mind, I repeat, at this stage, and don’t let go even for a single moment. During vibrations, astral projections occur with ease and when it happens you can see your body from outside but you still remain connected with the silver cord (like the umbilical cord) which might or might not be visible to you. In most of the cases, it lasts only for a few seconds and your consciousness snaps back into your physical body.

A word of caution: Undertake this process only if you feel strong and fearless in your heart. Don’t get into this if you are not ready. You might just freak out to see yourself out of your own body.
