According to the Encarta World English Dictionary the definition of meditation is-
emptying or concentration of mind: the emptying of the mind of thoughts, or the concentration of the mind on one thing, in order to aid mental or spiritual development, contemplation, or relaxation 2. pondering of something: the act of thinking about something carefully, calmly, seriously, and for some time, or an instance of such thinking.

Their are several types of meditation, and the benefits are endless. In recent years, scientists have one studies to uncover some facts about meditation.

Meditation Helps The aging Process***

Would you like one of the greatest secrets on aging? It's not a skin cream. Meditation can slow your age down from 5 to 10 years.Deepak Chopra estimates that people who meditate for many years often have a biological age between 5 to 10 years younger than their chronological age. Maybe because it slows the heart rate, and increases the blood flow.

Meditation Helps With Breathing and aids in relaxation***

In many languages, the words spirit and breath mean the same thing. Meditation has been used throughout history, and has benefited people across the globe. Conscious breathing is something most meditations share. You can not be upset if your breathing is slow, regular, and deep.

It has been prescribed by dr.'s to patients with high blood pressure. Oxygen consumption lessens, and tension headaches become less. It increases levels of serotonin(a chemical associated with moods)which means it also helps people with depression. It can reduce symptoms of P.M.S., increase memory retention, and change your brain structure positively (believe it or not). It decreases metabolic rate, and reduces fatigue.

With all of the positive affects of meditation, you can't lose. You can perform better in work, sports, writing, and your age. It's spiritual experience for some, and well worth your efforts.
