Top 3 Mind-Blowing Buddha Quotes Explained

Updated on July 3, 2012

Buddha was the founder of Buddhism and he was born in Nepal around 500 BCE. His real name was Siddhārtha Gautama.

Buddha literally means "Awakened One", an enlightened person who has awaken to things as they really are. Buddha then was free from mental faults and naturally had a great deal of compassion for other people. 49 days after he attained enlightenment he was asked to teach, and so he taught timeless and universal truth about personal and spiritual development.

The following 3 Buddha quotes are part of his teaching - and I'll explain them to the best I can. If you would like to add something, please feel free to do so in the comments at the end of this article. Thanks.

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."

Buddha asks us to become present, aware in the now. The present moment is the entrance into the spiritual dimension. Concentrating the mind in the present moment stops us from projecting forward into the future as well as looking into past events. All this is thinking only happening in our mind. What's really only there now, is the present.

By being present we are able to enjoy life as it unfolds and feel at the same time how alive we really are.

"If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change."

I always like this quote and I think it's really one of the deepest and most difficult to explain. From my understanding, it is not only about beauty, but more about what a flower represents. A flower is the flowering of the plant, it is it's most advanced expression of what it can show, fulfilling his potential by transcending and getting to a new level of being. It represent enlightenment.

Also Buddha talks about the possibility for us to get in touch with the flower directly, by REALLY seeing it. Seeing the life in it, the being, and getting one with it at that very moment.

"The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows."

Listen to your deeper inner voice, your spiritual self, because somehow it always knows what's right and wrong. That means being authentic to your true self. It also entails the value of integrity, which means that you do not compromise on what you know is true. You stay true to the best you know.

If we violate that what we know inside, we basically cheat on ourselves and somehow you can feel how it happens. Do not compromise and stay true to yourself.

This was a selection of 3 from the 10 most inspirational Buddha quotes.

An enjoyable read. Buddhism centres a lot on peace. Seems even more peaceful than Islam. Thanks for the photos.
