Christ called it the first commandment and the most important. The Bible says that the Heavenly Father is this, but what is "love?"
I just read a short article on this topic which is full of insight.
http://laitman.com/2014/07/what-brings- … e-creator/
But what is "love?"
One way to look at it is that it is a complete lack of self-concern. Sure you feed your body. That's being responsible. You wash yourself, but you're not concerned with how others view you.
Too many people have selfish ideas of "love," and that's not love at all.
Recently, I started teaching at a local college -- mathematics and information technology. I even started a programming club for eager students. It felt like the right thing to do. It doesn't pay much, but I get some enjoyment out of helping the students.
I realized, though, that my actions, here, are not altruistic. They are not based on real love. There's still an element of self-interest. I "enjoy" helping. That still feeds ego, the source of all evil.
True "love" changes the world. True love has no self-interest and thus no limitations. My kind of imperfect action is not the same thing. All the action in the world would still be corrupt if it has the wrong intention behind it. This is what Gautama Siddhartha Buddha taught. This is what Christ implied when he said that those who are first (egoistic) shall be last and that those who are last (humble) shall be first.
One of our fellow hubbers once said to me that he did not want to get rid of ego, because then he would lose himself. Perhaps that is the idea. With losing the fragile ego self (self-concern), one gains a greater, invulnerable spiritual self. Granted, it's not easy, but there is a method for doing this without fear of losing self, because it converts the old "self" into the new "self." The new is altruistic and not self-concerned. The method converts all egoistic desires into altruistic desires, step by step. I'm just starting and already feel the changes working within me. The method is called Kabbalah.
Was Christ a Kabbalist? The first 5 books (and perhaps more) were written by Kabbalists in code. Christ and the Kabbalists talk about many of the same things. And Christ said on at least one occasion that there are things he could not teach his disciples for they were not yet ready. In order to study authentic Kabbalah, like that at Bnei Baruch, you have to be ready -- you have to feel the need for something more than what the physical universe has to offer. You have to feel what I have felt just before starting my Kabbalah lessons and before applying for a professorship at the local college. You have to feel a need for connection with others and a need to help.
Naturally, such help will start out being selfish, but with the proper correction toward True love (non-self-interested altruism), your actions will start to do some real good on the level of creation. And that creation is pure bestowal -- the essence of Love, the Heavenly Father.
Kabbalah is not Jewish, nor Hebrew, and it is not authentic.
Kabbalah is the Western world's incorrect copy of Jewish Mysticism
The Kabbalah took what was real, and changed it, either on purpose, or because of a lack of understanding..and all the information is incorrect
The first, and greatest commandment is "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"
Not Jesus, or others, but God, the source of all
The wisest King who ever lived is Solomon, who said there is a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:8
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
What is hate and war?
Must not be allowing it, did study some and experience some before.
Too many people have selfish ideas of "love," and that's not love at all.
Why not love yourself most of all?
It's called self serve, not selfish. How can we serve others better, if we do not love our selves most or at lease 50% as each individual spared with 50% of everyone else. The task for every living creature is to love.
The human species have driven millions of other species to extinction. How can we love nature and all animals when we have an over ego about our selfish Gods (millions of them).?
Christian have more deeper thoughts on how we have sex than they do for our natural environment and nuclear war.
Why love a Yahweh lord God when we know this group will conflict with nature and other Gods?
Love is when two people or thing are stronger together, than apart with many little act of kindness
. How is such a lord that greatly separates people and all earthlings - love?
Nature is the closest thing to a true Religion yet love is the glue.
You said, "Too many people have selfish ideas of "love," and that's not love at all."
Absolutely. I agree completely. In fact, it seems that most words in our languages have individual, personal meanings that make accurate communication difficult at best. I'm defining communication as a transmission of ideas across a distance from source to receipt point with perfect duplication of the original ideas. This almost never happens. We all have our own filters and misconceptions.
You also said, "Why not love yourself most of all? It's called self serve, not selfish. How can we serve others better, if we do not love our selves most or at lease 50% as each individual spared with 50% of everyone else. The task for every living creature is to love."
You too have an interesting perspective on "love." And you have an interesting take on what it means to be "selfish." But loving self is in the same plane as hating self. They are opposites in the same dichotomy. Ego (selfishness or self-concern) is made up of both sides of this and other dichotomies.
My goal is love without concern for self. It's tough. It's really hard. I've done it once before, so I know what it tastes like. But it's not easy returning there. This is the love Christ talked about. This is the love about which most Christians don't have a clue. But eliminating self concern means that "self" no longer exists. There is still a unit of awareness, but it is no longer separate from the whole.
Love means giving without any thought or feeling of self receiving anything -- not even the enjoyment or satisfaction of giving. Nothing for the self. That is true love. It is infinite giving.
When we each return to this state of giving without any self-concern, humanity will be healed. Earth will be healed. All of nature will be healed.

Why do people of different religions constantly argue which is the the "true" religion? It seems like a never ending cycle. It seems like a war of words. I became caught in it at one time myself. I don't know that anyone will ever win it?
