Why is it God always says US?
In the Bible, God says Gen. 1:26 "Let us make man in OUR image". Gen 3:22 "Behold man has become like one of us". Is there more than one God?
Most take it to mean that God looks like a human. The Bible has lots of contradictory things happening. I consider it all superstitious nonsense.
Because the Hebrew word "Elohim" which is the word used for "God" in the Bible is plural, meaning "gods." The word also has both masculine and feminine attributes. It is mistranslated into English as singular and as "God." This is why this occurs throughout the Bible. The reason for this discrepency is under debate.
The first theory as to why "God" is plural in the Bible is that of most religious conservatives: that it denotes authority and sovereignty, much as royalty would say "We" and "Our." Most religious conservatives frown at the thought of polytheism existing in the Bible and this theory brings them comfort.
Most researchers and well informed scholars believe that the Abrahamic Faith began as polytheism, which later took on a more monotheistic form. According to this theory, the God of the Bible began as a High God in an ancient Semetic pantheon of Gods. From this YHVH became more of a tribal Deity of Israel, and over time He became the "only" God. This is supported by reading the Holy Writ and how the concept of God evolved over time. In the Book of Genesis God is neither omniscient or omnipresent, and He even wrestles with Jacob all night and loses! Later God becomes more remote with the later Books of Moses, but is clearly shown as the Israelite God, not the only deity in existence; but that the Jewish God was stronger and could beat up the pagan deities. Then later in the Psalms He is shown as the Only God. This change over time seems to support that prior to this the Jewish Faith may have been polytheistic in nature, and thus the Hebrew word would have been plural.
The last theory is utterly incorrect. This is the one used by Christians that know nothing of religious history. These people claim that it refers to the Trinity. This is absurd. The Jews had no Trinity. God is Achad, "One." In fact, the concept of the Trinity did not even exist until the 4th Century with the bishop Athanasius and, until then, was an alien concept even in the Christian Faith.
The reason for the plurality is the nature of the Hebrew word for "God," which is plural and may refer to a pantheon collectivley or to the angels which are the deity's vicegerents on Earth. The reasons for the use of "gods" instead of "God" is debatable. the three most common theories are listed above, the latter of which is the result of stupidity. Only you can judge for yourself as to why this occurs.
Because He is talking about his tri-part nature
God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy Spirit
The three in one...
That is a ditty they teach.
God has three aspects to him, as the Son he experienced humanity, as the father he rules over all and makes tough calls as the holy spirit Acts 1 he comes as the gift the son left behind to help us to be comforted until the son returns again...
But all three in one.
I believe it was God, the Son and The Holly Sprit, which are all individually, not one individual. God is above all, the son is the one who died for us to have a second chance with God and the Holly Sprit is what guides mankind from what is right and what is wrong.
Because He is the three-in-one God and all three natures were always there, each with its own function, all in complete communication and harmony, even at Creation.
I agree with Abbasangel. When God is referring to "us" in the creation of the world, he is referring to Himself, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, - God in three persons-the blessed Trinity.
As you know US is the object form of we, and if you look up the definition of we in e.g. the Merriam Webster dictionary:
: 1i —used by sovereigns —used by writers to keep an impersonal character.

@Butch News
It is full of contradictions because it was written after Jesus, out of the memory of its writers. And you have to also consider how many languages it was translated through to reach you. Translation isn't accurate and is dependent on the understanding of the translator.
The unavoidable result of this is a lot of corruption.
Throughout the entire Bible, it has been seen that God is wholly spiritual, non-corporeal, invisible, and intangible. In all instances where God has come into this corporeal realm, he has employed angelic beings.
When angelic beings speak, sometimes they say "Thus sayeth the Lord", and other times, they speak as if they are God themselves - that is, with full authority and confidence.
Often, it is seen that angels work in teams. This was so when three angelic beings visited Abraham. So let us assume that when they said "let us", they were a team of angelic beings performing the will of a non-corporeal God.
It may be interesting to consider that, when God 'walked' in the garden with Adam and Eve, it may well have been an angel, since God is non-corporeal.
I have forwarded such issues in my new book "Winged Thoughts, The Small Book of Angels", for now found only on my web page:

God doesn't always say 'let us'. When He spoke with Moses at the burning bush, God identified Himself as 'I Am'.
Jesus said before Abraham was 'I Am'.
The Great 'I AM' states in this His continuous being. No beginning and no end. I AM.
God is triune. His is one God in three persons--a trinity.
Therefore when He is acting in community with Jesus and the Spirit, He says us.
Awesome to see that all are involved in the creation of man.
I agree with what starsofeight wrote. That makes a lot of sense.
I do NOT buy all that 'trinity' stuff. That was added later as a result of a council of niceae (spelling?) and originated from Babylon.
God was not alone. Man has Dominion, Adam, a Garden within the dominion. Man had no name, Adam was a cultivator who chose a name. A man with a name. Directions on that page , when followed in the correct fashion, reveals many things which, by our present understanding, should not be there, simply because we think that logic separates us from that time. In Genesis, I see Genes, DNA, Cloning, other concepts which have been credited elsewhere, and a visual reproduction of Plato's description of Atlantis. We must concede that we have always been under the control of a being or civilization of beings which may, or may not originate from here, but have taken it upon themselves to guide our steps, by any means, to this very moment. We are on the threshold of a new day. The dawn is nearly upon us. To think that it is the "royal we" is ignorance, because then one has to ask oneself the question: To whom was he speaking? There was not yet an ear to hear the tree fall. Is God then a megalomaniacal schizophrenic? Yes, but that is only part of the story, and he was medicated at the time, so his invisible friends were experiencing quiet time. He was speaking to the little woman, and the other five children. Peace
In the beginning the false God and his accomplices are setting up their kingdom, which has man at the helm.
Elohim was the cheif of them all and this kingdom he has plan to rule over forever.
This is why he said Let US do such and such....
This he did totally ignorant that by this he is actually doing the will of the Father the one True God,
The Father already knowing that through the works of elohim His sons will establish themselves into the kingdom of the ONE true God.
The "us" means sons of God. Sons of God were/are the angels, then later Adam and Eve but because of sin we are all sons of Adam and only threw salvation do we become sons of God.
Simpler than all that. It was translated for people that were in groups.
Since the beginning of recorded history there have been close to 3,000 different Gods.

If Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, is He then one being in heaven?I always thought Jesus was the son of God, in all actuallty. I never knew the meaning of "the son of God" until just now. So now I realize that God came in human form and was called Jesus, Jesus and God are the same. So...

Catholics Protestants think Jesus was god; rather as some say he was "god-the-father"; then the Christians say that Mary was begotten by god-the-father.It is a wrong concept; because that would makes Jesus , I take refuge with the Creator God, husband of Mary.I don't think it is a correct...

I know that the holy trinity are all meant to be the same and one being. God is the father and the son and the holy spirit. But, taking into account, this was decided by a group of men hundreds of years after Jesus, what is everyone's opinion on this?If Jesus and God are the same? Why does Jesus...

Why God is always HE and not SHE? Doesn't it indicate that the concept of God came from MEN and not from WOMEN?
