In the past couple of years more and more pedophile Christian priests are brought to face their
crooked and foul past. How come I do not hear of Buddhist monks molesting children? How come I have yet to hear of an Imam or a Rabbi that has abused children? What is it about Christian priests that makes them such slime?
The fact that you have never heard of it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. There are bad people everywhere, unfortunately. But I will agree with you on the fact that a lot of cases of pedophile Christian priests have come out. I don't think the phenomenon has anything to do with the kind of religion they belong to. They are just monsters that would act the same way no matter what kind of robe they wore.
Certainly the lax attitude in the Catholic church has both contributed to and even fostered this problem.Failure to implement proper instruction on the crimes of child molestation during theological training and then most important, the failure to defrock priests or even investigate properly when legal evidence against them has been presented, are principally responsible for this moral cancer spreading through the church
.It is important to keep in mind that the number of offending priests is small but the number of their victims is large. The problem has been compounded by the church's practice to just move molesters to different cities to avoid criminal investigations rather than remove them from the priesthood. This morally sick practice has greatly increased the number of victims because upon arriving at their new churches, the offending priests felt it necessary to find a new set of children to attack thus spreading their psychological horror to an entirely new community of victims.
to be specific it is the roman catholic priests mostly. part of the reason we hear so much about it is because once the flood gates opened, people got more courage to tell their stories. one problem these priests face is celebacy. it's human nature to need sex and these sick fools use kids as their outlet because they figured kids wouldn't tell. SURPRISE.
I don't believe that these priests that you speak of are true Christians (followers of Christ), but rather wolves in sheep's clothing. This is the sort of thing that gives Christianity a bad name. Consider this...only God can forgive sins, but in the Catholic religion, what do people do? They confess their sins to a priest. Just something to think about.
Its a sad fact that in all walks of life there are those who prey on people. Wherever you find positions of trust or responsibility, there is a possibility to find someone willing to take advantage of people in a position of weakness or need.
I guess some would say its human nature, I prefer to think of it as the continuing sickening of society.
Whilst I concede the catholic church seems to be getting all the press, and I do not doubt for 1 second the veracity of the claims, a sad, disillusioned part of me wonders if other institutions are just better at silencing people or covering it up.
Mr Happy, great question, and I hope it makes people think and ask questions themselves.
a priest is not a Christian, that is a title conferred by man not God.

Do you think that if Catholic Priests where now allowed to have a Relationship with another person, that would stop the pedophilia that is taking place in Catholic churches all over the country?

Should men of the cloth be held to higher standards than the flock that they lead or are they merely mortals and are subjected to sin as the rest of humanity? If so should society readily forgive them as Christ has forgiven us?

Why do we need to confess our sins to a priest? Can't we do it directly to God? What's the difference?

In the past couple of years, there seems to have been a major push for people to eat more fiber. Why is this so? Does it deserve such promotion? What other dietary supplement deserves attention?

If You Were Made The Pope, The Most Immediate Change You Would Make Is To Allow Priests Get Married?
