What are your thoughts on Divine Justice?
There are a group of people who want to blame or praise God for certain natural events that have happened. Many people blamed Katrina on the morality of New Orleans. I am not arguing this particular theology (although I disagree with it) I am now wondering if this could not be true on a much smaller scale. Can God create a really bad day to prove we made poor decisions that day? Or can we see rewards in our lives when we do well in the eyes of the Lord?
The old testement is filled with examples of what God says in the scripture. God judges a nation as well as the individual. When the nation turns from God, he leads them into bondage, as he did the Israelites again and again. Then when they repent, he hears them and rescues them. However, he let em sit and suffer for 400 years so they would not soon forget, and yet they go right out and make a golden calf to worship. (I don't think they were very bright really to do that. I mean if I saw God part the ocean and I walked through it.... I sure as heck would not cross over and worship a golden calf. I would be saying - you'all are nuts! Did ya not just see God part the sea? Hello anyone home?)
If God punishes America the most blessed nation on earth - for turning its back on him, well, I don't have 400 years so I guess I won't be part of the equation anyway. However, I still think people need to repent and turn away from their sins, and do it soon. I don't want to be here to see God's hand spanking this nation into bondage.
Good question.

Divine Justice is the ultimate principle for human beings on the earth. Now for the natural disasters that happens on earth is just the natural events that happens because of the natural laws that governs the planet earth and GOD have given human beings the intelligence of how to survive and thrive under the conditions for living on the planet earth. Now for human beings with their free will the divine justice operates with amazing grace and mercy for human beings as the ultimate purpose for human beings on the earth is to know and walk with GOD moment by moment on the earth and to have fellowship with GOD through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is an one on one personal invitation for human beings to decide how they will live their life on the earth and their relationship with GOD on a personal basis. Example: I have chosen to do GOD'S will and ultimate purpose for my life on the earth and sold out to do this 100% and GOD as a result of my free will to do GOD'S will for my life, GOD on August 1, 1982 A.D. a Sunday morning shown me in a vision the other side of death and ever since that time GOD have been preparing me for 28 years to fulfill and complete his perfect will for my life by joining hubpages on June 2010 A.D. and writing 2 articles: 1 on June 2010 A.D. and 2nd on April 19, 2011 A.D. My 1st article is seen around the world in 8 countries and 11 cities through 100 percent referring sites. My 2nd article that I written is on the Top Listings and 3rd on the list and also is on the best and hottest hubs on hubpages " besthubpages.com" of which my 2nd article was put on both of these places on April 19, 2011 A.D. Just the facts. If I should turn my back against GOD and do not endure to the end after all that he have done for me then I will split hell wide open and that would be Divine Justice and I have no problem with that because I will not turn my back against GOD and will endure to the end and go to that place that GOD have shown me in a vision on August 1, 1982 A.D. a Sunday morning. Let us all give a shout of Praise and Glory for the 1 and only DIVINE JUSTICE known also as I am Alpha and Omega. The first and the last. The beginning and the end.
In summary and essence, I think God is more concernced with His overall plan for humanity at large, than He is with my wayward dishwasher or desert.
Just as we must wait for answers to our prayers, we must also wait upon our chastising and direction.
It is not ever God who causes badness, not for any reason. God is love, pure and simple love. It would be against His divine nature to cause anything that would harm man.
The term justice is commonly used to justify revenge.
Man believes that everything should be handled through the principle "eye for an eye". Man has the right to make rules deter bad and evil acts and that the victims should be compensated. God has given man free will here.
Now God on the other hand is not human. He needs no compensation. He does not loose anything for any decision man makes. The Almighty cannot be hurt by humans or anyone. This is because God is Divine. Divinity means having no needs and cannot be hurt by anyone.
To compensate our losses, all he has to do is the will it. He can fix everything in the universe, without pain in a blink of any eye. He simply has to will it. This brings us to the grand truth, so grand that most of you are not ready to accept. And that is he will not judge or hold his love ones accountable. That does not mean we walk free from our misdeeds. The natural laws of cause and effect will make sure that you experience what you create. This may be bad or good and it depends on your choices and actions.
God will not deny you the natural consequences of your choices and actions. But this is not Divine Justice.
This is why the great teacher once said that you should love others as yourself. If your deeds are unacceptable to you then don't do this to others. The natural consequence is that you will experience everything you do to others whether it is good or bad. So do not fear God here, but be careful with your choices and actions.
Most of these are wonderful answers. Thank you very much. I need to think about some of these some more, but I appreciate those who answered with honest integrity. I think I am now leaning more towards the idea that we can create situations that will affect us throughout our lives, be in long or short term. Again, thank you all, I appreciate the thoughts and ideas.
In theory, God can create whatever God chooses.
I think though, that God lets chaos and randomness play a significant role in our own lives, on the planet and in the universe. God seems to take a decidedly hands off approach; refraining from micromanaging us or bullying us into worshiping, evangelizing or living virtuous, holy lives.
Since God loves everyone, and God IS love, it seems unlikely that God would choose to play favorites and answer one person's prayer but the other person's plea. Or that God would send a weather system to punish people for their sins.
Just my opinion....
What people generally refer to as Divine Justice is divine punishment. It's as if punishment can somehow undo injustice.
People are very selective when ascribing things to God. Most people are happy to give God credit for the good and none of the blame for the bad. This is why someone would thank God for sparing them during a natural disaster. If God is so benevolent, why did the disaster happen in the first place, and why didn't God save the ones who died? Are you a better person? Anyone with any kind of a brain can see that the good are not always rewarded and the bad are not always punished. Natural disasters and many other forms of suffering are completely arbitrary in whom they strike.

A bad or good day is the product of circumstance. Circumstance is the product of choice and the environment. If one believes that God created the universe, but gave man the freedom to choose, then God can only be 50% responsible for any product of circumstance.
Definetly not. We make our own destony. I truly believe responsibility should be on the people themselves. And often planet Earth, just does it's own thing. Including a natural disasters. We can only do so much to prepare as we can and use common sense to try to survive as best as we can.
divine justice by my understanding is God's judgment. Natural catastrophic occurrence can at times be systemic with no iota of truth that can be linked to divine judgment. But God is very much interested in the affairs of men and men make up nations of the world, so therefore, some occurrences can be traced to Direct judgment of God. It is very glaring to those whose spiritual antennae are hyper sensitive.
According to what I've observed, I would say that God makes small influences but the big things are up to us. Since he gaves us free-will, he will not make too many alterations.
Divine punishment is kind of defeating the purpose of free will, don't you think. Why would God give man free will if he was going to punish you for exercising it? It's just a case of non-beleivers needing to validate to others that God holds the responsibility for their beliefs (or lack of). It's kind of a paradox that he gets blamed for catastrophes, but not the credit for the miraculous stories of survival. I think God saves his judgements and punishments till we are face to face with him.
I have always said and believed that God or the universe has a way of evening things out in this world. I know when I have been hurt or crossed by people who are enemies, if I don't retaliate or seek revenge, I find that down the road (and it could take years) they suffer some setback or unhappiness or illness etc. In other words, they get their just reward. I honestly don't know if it is divine justice or just the way the universe works, but everyone who has tried to do me in is done in themselves in the end. So I do have great faith in killing enemies with kindness and keeping enemies closer, because in my experience I have found they "get it" in the end.
The message of Christianity, or rather one of them, is that if you follow Christ's s teachings your life will be good both in this world and the world to come. If you don't, then due to the nature of the world you won't have that assurance. That doesn't mean God punishes you, individually or collectively, for your sins, it means merely that He offers you a better way. The Katrina and bad day arguments are not compatible with that point of view.
