Why is hell  such a HOT topic on hubpages?

Even I have a hub on hell.

Great question! In our faith, we don't believe in Hell, so I just going to take a shot at an answer for this.

Everybody is worried it exists...and they think they have a possibility of going there. And they want to be prepared...or at least get baptized or converted.

    That is my humble opinion.

manyfiresf4, very appropriate nick name for this question......Just kidding.  Yes, This may be the main reason for hell's popularity.  It is an insurance policy, just in case.

The beauty of Hell is the retribution we hope falls upon our enemies...our hated opponents.  The sad truth, however, is that the draw is completely mythological...even in the biblical record...Dante's Comedy was the introduction of a fiery end for humanity--but it sure works for ministers of religious ridiculousness.

randslam, thank you for your comment.  It does seem to work by giving some religious leaders leverage over believers.

I am glad the tradition I follow does not have an eternal hell. I think hel is such a hot topic because there are many people afraid of getting burned. smile

Darrell, Thanks for responding, the popularity of the subject does seem to be related to fear.  I agree.

Any controversial topic is popular. Whether it be religion, politics, education, movie reviews.

nochance, Thank you for responding to this question.  I have to admit to taking advantage of controversial topics.  When I came to Hubpages I thought I would be unique writing about theological issues, but wow was I wrong.

I guess I am falling behind. I had better crank it up and write a hub on hell.
I guess I would say, fear. People who believe in hell are afraid they might end up there, and people who don't believe in hell are afraid that they should believe in it. For me, personally, I would rather take time talking about the wonders of heaven than the dangers of hell. Although the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and therefore necessary, I think that it is so much more persuasive to point out how wonderful God is rather than try to scare people.
    Hope you are well!

Come on MilesArmbruster, catch up and get a hub on hell.  Yes, the beauty of heaven is a much more effective motivator.  Thanks for your input as always.

fear of god the beginning of wisdom?  Really? Accepting god & exploring & expanding our minds R the only beginnings toward  real wisdom and enlightenment.UR not only behind in ur HP topics.Fear serves us no purpose, nor does fantasy.

Here is a wonderful very short video that answers your question about hell by a priest.  He has hit the nail on the head.  The ignorance of  humanity is astounding.

Maybe the HubPages powers-that-be could give hell its own category right after health.  HellPages.

Because it is a main topic in life.  In the end all of us will either go to Heaven or Hell.
