Some family sadness and betrayal in more than one instance.
So many passing away, Way too young. The sudden ones really get to you. They are so unexpected. It only takes one blink of an eye and they are gone.
JThomp, I am so sorry to hear that!! My blessings to you, and to those who have passed away. Yes, things suddenly happen....and we've no control over it. Something I struggle to cope with every day.
My greatest challenge to overcome is to obey God when it is going to hurt my flesh, especially if it is not the way I perceived it. It is so easy to say God comes first in all things and you lay down self, but when it is time and it is not what you have pictured, it hurts, it really hurts. The greatest battle then is to get self off the throne and God back on it. Why is this so difficult if this is what I want, for God to be number one in my life.
For me it's facing my own weaknesses and finding the courage to overcome them. A great many I've been able to overcome. There's one last one I'm still not able to better. Why? Because it's the one rooted the deepest and to conquer it my conscious mind has to alter my subconscious mind. According to psychiatrists (and my experience), it is the hardest thing anyone can do.
For me it's been to accept myself for who I am, and not to be afraid of everything around me.
My health. I was very healthy until i hit the age of 52. From that day to this, I have had ongoing and sometimes life threatening health problems.
I have overcome many of them, but I feel as though my body is betraying me as I age, and this has been difficult to deal with.
Health problems can be very confining, and this is hard to accept for someone who has always been an adventurer.
Boredom. I can't stand not having anything to do. So I always have to find something to do. Scholarships, extra college courses, always having a part time job, having something to worry about, etc. For some reason, I feel as if I need them because they keep me busy.
I have faced three such challenges in my life. One at the age of sixteen, when I had to overcome the physical and mental anguish of a severe spinal injury from football, Later a debilitating brain tumor in my adult life, as a teacher, and finally as a victim of a severe car crash in 2005, where I re-injured my spine and also internally. I have met these challenges and done my best in going on with my life.
Whonunuwho, thanks so much for this heartfelt and sincere sharing. I have had brain tumors myself....and I know exactly how it is to be in your shoes. It is a difficult condition to grapple with, more than anyone understands. You are a brave soul.
