If you find a ring that can grant you invisibility when you wear it, what will you do?
This ring is mentioned by Plato in his book Republic as the Ring of Gyges. Will you use the ring for yourself, leave the ring, or destroy the ring? If you use it yourself, how confident are you that you will use it for good cause?
I would destroy it. What good could come out of being invisible? None that I can think of.
All it takes is imagination and guidance from the Lord. Sure, it can be used for all manner of bad, but so can any tool. The tool isn't bad; it's the user that brings bad or good to it.
I would probably just leave it. I read a book called "Fade" by Robert Cormier in which the character is invisible at times and what he sees destroys his belief in so many people. I wouldn't want the disappointment---but there could probably be some positives to it for spy mission/military- type things, so I would leave it in hopes that it would be put to good use.
I would certainly be tempted to kick a few well deserving folks in the crotch. It sort of reminds me of the movie series about the ring and all of its evil connotations. I suppose most people would use the ring for more evil intents than good, although good things might be accomplished using such a ring. Certainly a lot of spy work on the world stage might be a breeze with such an artifact. Nice question and intriguing that you would ask it Ricksen.
I'd probably wear it so I could stick around after I'd 'left' a party or social gathering so I could see if people talk about me and what they say, haha
As bad as it may be, I think I would do the same.
I would walk through walls to get passed barriers so that I don't have to open up annoying doorways, now that would be a cool thing indeed. Cool question.
Invisibility doesn't necessarily allow you to walk through walls.
Well the ring I would of found would, Haha!!! Yikes have a sense of humor why don't ya!
I'd go to the YWCA instead of the YMCA to work out. Since I'm invisible, nobody will notice how much I'm sweating, right? Then, because I was sweating although nobody noticed it, I would take a shower at the YWCA.
I would use that ring, I would use it so hard. I realize some would construe me to be a bad person for such, but if I had that ring I would do all I could to shift the world more in line with my personal beliefs.
If I was truly invisible I would use it to frighten, sabotage, sit in on meetings, steal documents and whatever else I could do to damage environmentally degrading industries.
It could also be used to oust violent military dictators and sabotage various nuclear weapons programs.
The world and all its information could truly become your oyster!
I like you answer, bold and honest. I would probably do some of the same things, you are not alone.
O! I would become a 21st century Robin Hood and take money from the greedy and give it to the poor.
I would go to where the drug dealers hang out and grab their drugs right out of their hands before they could sell them and throw them in the garbage where they belong. I would go where the kids hang out to use and grab the needles before they hit their arms. I would blow on the powder they are about to sniff and send it into the wind....
Yeah, the ring can be used for greater good in our society. Hopefully it does not fall to the wrong hand.
I'd wear it and go to the next meeting our Prime Minister has with EU and troika. That way I'll find out what is really going on behind closed doors. Too much wishful thinking. But knowing myself so well, I would surely use it only for a good cause, unless it could control my mind. Then I'd pass it or find a Frodo to rid of it.
It won't control your mind, but it will be a struggle against ourselves not to use it for a bad cause. It is definitely tempting for most people.
If you know your inner most deepest thoughts and desires, you know if you can trust yourself no matter what. But that's not a headache for us, is it?
I have too much time on my hands. If I had the ring would probably become a spy. I would also haunt anyone that pushes my buttons.
If it could grant invisibility to what I wear and carry, then I would do all manner of good deeds in complete anonymity.
What joy to see people delirious with happiness when their shattered lives are healed with a sudden helping, but completely anonymous hand. There is no burden of indebtedness.

After watching a certain unnamed movie, my daughter and I got on the discussion of superpowers. If you had the choice, would you rather be able to A) be able to become invisible whenever you wished? (not stuck being invisible all of the time or B) be able to teleport from place to place as quickly...

What does it mean when people wear a different color nail polish on their ring finger?I'm starting to see this a lot. People will wear a brightly colored nail polish on their ring finger. It's usually a deep color like black, super red, or hot pink. Does the choice of color have a meaning? Does the...
