Since There Are No Real Pictures Of Jesus, How would You Recognize Him If He Came Back Today?
I think some people would just know. Jesus would be a person that others would be attracted to, in the sense that he has what we need more than anyone else. He would be a loving presence that would fill a void in the lives of thousands. He would heal, teach, pray, and show mercy to each person he met. Without any pictures, I think people would know when Jesus comes.
Interesting mental picture
especially since when Jesus was alive there were those who doubted he was the messiah.
"Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?" John 7:41 King James Version
In proper context, the Jews concluded that he could not be the Messiah because they thought He was born in Galilee, but if they examined the matter a little farther, they would have found that Jesus Christ was born exactly as prophesied in Bethlehem.
vveasey- I have no doubt when Jesus comes back people will doubt it. People are great at putting Jesus in a box, as in, He has to look a certain way, be from a certain place or agree with their assumptions of religion and politics. I agree that those
In all of his glory, we would know. Plus, the second coming of Jesus will be a triumphant event with the clouds parting and Jesus coming to get his children. This spectacular event will not be missed by anyone.
You say "the clouds parting and Jesus coming to get his children?"
Is he living in the clouds or hidden by the clouds?
Jesus is in Heaven seated at the right hand of God the father.
Heaven is not a place. It is a realm beyond human comprehension.
If that's true that heaven is beyond human comprehension how can you comprehend that Jesus that is seated at the right hand of God the father in heaven?
And what do "the clouds parting" have to with it?
It would be much easier for you to study the New Testament my friend.
I have studied it that why I'm asking the questions but if you don't want to answer or have a problem with my questions, no problem don't answer
No my friend, I don't have a problem answering your questions.
v veasey, its called faith. the kingdom of heaven is within us. without faith it is impossible to understand or believe GOD.
John 10:26-28
King James Version (KJV)
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Weasey I do not think we would recognize Him. I think That those who are really doing the Christian walk will not know him. It would seem out of character for my Jesus to let me know it was him. Let me put it another way. The bum on the street, the lowly clerk, the unwed mother, the unruly children, the jailer man......
We are to treat these folks with blindness as to who they are. We are to treat each other as brothers. I try to live my days, as though Christ were in all of these, in fact I believe He is.
I may miss Christ, and woe be to me. But I like to think I already have met Him and blessed Him with care and Love. To me this is Christ the belief without the religion.
interesting that you say "my Jesus" does everyone have their own Jesus?
If so which one is the real Jesus?
I thought there was only one Jesus
Weasey, have you ever been in love? Especially new love. What you see in your special someone is all yours. It is a highly personal relationship, unique to you and them. Then you wed. and the someone becomes "yours" in a way they are not to others.
So you seem to be saying that believers "see" Jesus subjectively, is that what you're saying?
Weasey that is kind of a simplistic label. So I will be simplistic in return. Love is subjective. Christ is Love. If we do not see in Love we do not see that which is Christ.
Yep Eric
I'm a simple kind of guy.
just trying to understand the example you used to convey your meaning.
If love is personal and different for each person. isn't that subjective rather than objective?
Why the need to fit Love into a tangible category? It is not of the empirical senses. So how real it is, depends on the person. Is it real? Yes. So in some sense it is objective but not like a dog. More like temperature. So we "know" Christ.
Since when? from the beginning there are no real Jesus Christ picture.
As today no one could know the real image of Jesus Christ except the 12 apostle are alive.
As John leaped in Elizabeths womb I am sure ny spirit would testify of Jesus.. When Jesus comes back all will know .. can't wait for that day....
I believe that the most of the "faithful" would fail to recognize him because they don't believe in unconditional love. I'll be looking for a Jim Caviezel or Willem DeFoe look alike.
simple answer, he's your neighbor. He's the homeless man on your street. He's the widow on the corner. He is alive and well, and can be seen each day.
So Jesus is not coming back or never left? He's all of the downtrodden not the individual he was originally?
He's not in those who are doing well?
I guess I should have said that he's everyone, not just the downtrodden.
V Veasey...why do you insist on nitpicking? you appear to be trying to start an argument. that accomplishes nothing you know
tlmcgaa70
You call it nitpicking. I call it trying to understand what commenters are saying and why they're saying it.
By your definition you could say that the topic of this question is nitpicking
I think you are doing a great job Weasey. I raised this with a priest last night and it led to great discussion. Will we see a face we recognize? All Christians should ask this question of each other and ourselves. HInt: there is no right answer.
Thanks Ericdierker
I appreciate Open-minded People like you.
You're right every christian should be open to that question
and willing to discuss it.
There may not be a right answer to it
But there is a true answer
Weasey, Our relationship with Christ is so personal, and as you say subjective, that I think truth will be of the "for me" variety. At least that is what I want my catechism class to respond on Sunday.
Two things come to mind. First, the Bible has a lot to say about His return so there would be lots of signs and evidences. Second, there will be a tremendous erupting of feeling and emotion when we see Him face to face. In other words, I'll know on the inside.
I like this question. I think the only way we could recognize him is if he does anything that helps a person, say a blind person by giving him his sight back. But I guess though to people would just know, they get a feeling that this man is very special.
I don't think that Jesus has ever really left....his Spirit is always here, around you, me and everyone else on Earth. That is where a sense of peace or joy comes from, even when there is nothing that we humans can see to be joyful or happy about. The comfort we feel when many others don't understand why we have it....this lets me know that Jesus is with me, even know. Healings, people surviving catastrophic events without a scratch, the sight of a healthy newborn baby...all these things shows us that He is with us.
As for his physical form, I feel that we will recognize him. I think that there will be something magnetic about him that will draw all people in to Him. However, I believe that we he does come back it will also come with many supernatural events (the Rapture, etc) so He will be kinda hard to miss! We'll know
Maybe its within your faith as there is no need to see someone to believe in them.Your faith would just lead you knowing who he is.
What is faith to you? And how does that lead you to knowing who he is?
Is it possible that Jesus could have more than one incarnation ?
Brayan22, look over your shoulder or into the face of a child. Jesus is there already. Ascension and heaven are not prisons. He does not need a passport to return on the next flight. He is here in love.
I think we will not recognize Him nor would He wants to be recognized. In fact, my belief is that He has never left us. He lives in each of us, setting a standard for us to live up to.

Christians, If you sin and die 5 minutes later do you go to hell?So if you don't have time to ask for your forgiveness do you go to hell? Can your God forgive you and accept you into heaven even if you didn't get a chance to ask for him to forgive?

Can only Christians and those who accept Jesus Christ go to heaven?According to Christianity, only those who have openly accepted Jesus Christ and the Christian faith may go to heaven. If that is the case, what about the African tribe who has never heard of of Jesus? Even if they are good people,...

We are often told that we will meet our dead friends and family in Heaven and we'll all be happy. Will we also meet our old enemies in Heaven as well, or do they go somewhere else like into their own Heaven with their own family and friends? Do people have their own personal heavens where only...

What are the main differences between Christians and Mormons?

Since I´m not very familiar with the folklore, and there seem to be quite a few ¨experts¨ here, I thought I´d ask.According to the storyline, Lucifer was the ¨highest of the high¨ or something to that effect. So, I guess that at some point, Lucifer must have had a higher ranking than Jesus. Yet,...
