No stereotype except for christians

Why is there so much focus on stereotypes of every group of people except for Christians? You don't have to read these forums, or any forums very long to see that this is true. This is just another example of the bible fulfilling itself.

  The authors of the Bible (as with many other religious and cult texts) were well aware of human nature. Human beings have not changed much in the last 10 to 30 thousand years (some say 50 or 60 thousand) and despite not having invented the computer or the automobile yet, their intellects were quite up the task of understanding how populations of diverse belief sytems, education levels, wealth and other interests would interact under various conditions.
  
  There is a common misperception of people from the past (pick your era) being "primitive" or somehow less than we are today. The fact is, the only difference was the level of technology. Not knowing what bacteria is or that the other planets orbit the sun rather than the Earth does not mean their brains and capacity to understand social dynamics was as backward as their science was. In fact, without TV, and prior to the codex and readily available books even, people had a lot more time to pay attention to that sort of thing.
  
  It's hardly a surprise that guys literate enough to compose and write the stories of the Bible would also be intelligent enough to recognize in the inevitable skepticism that all religions get, particularly in the growth stages. Frankly, pretty much anyone could have told you "this would happen." And all cults and even MLM schemes all "predict" difficulty and harrassment, and they, through this amazing prognostication, awe their constituents when in fact that harassment and skepticism comes. On the outside looking in, however, it's like, "Duh, of course you're going to catch flack for saying stuff like that. You hardly need a crystal ball to see that's coming."

Topics on any other group of people such as blacks, jews, gays, etc. Speak negatively about them and your scum. But those who speak negatively about christians are almost heroes.

  This is not what I've seen here. I've seen many negative hubs most of which attract vocal support from 'friends' and, if discovered, vocal criticism from dissidents. I've also noticed that when someone puts forward their own philosophy in a positive way, without bashing anyone, most of the comments are in the nature of civilised discussion. Commentators usually take their lead from the seed hub. As you sow, so shall you reap.

  Paraglider, I agree with you I have written articles and believe me I have gotten reprecussion from some and it was placed out there in a positive way. I am christian and it does not offend me if someone one speaks out negatively as all is entitled to there opinions and I also respect others values and religions.

  I for one don't think bashing Christians is heroic. I think people like that are truly afraid. They are afraid. Why else would they be so passionate about bashing Christians. What are these people afraid of anyways? I've been afraid and reacted in a hateful, aggressive, personal manner. Was it because they were Atheist... I don't think so, but I did fear I was out of my league and didn't want them to see that. Bottom line fear of Christians and God being real, I think scares some people. I think the fact that some of us Christians could say, "I told you so!" to a lot of the "Christian Bashing" hubbers fear that. Does that make them bullies or cowards? There bashing is just fanatical as the "demenated" "bible-thumping""religious terrorists". What if a Christian would of said those things about an Atheist.... no heroes they are not. Again the question remains are they cowards or bullies?
  
  What else could make them so emotional? ARE THEY AFRAID
  ... that God is real and they will innerly feel like hypocrites & lying back-stabbers of Christ? I bet it is all about that. It makes you wonder. Would these "constant bashers" of God, Christ, & Christians- really BE worried about their souls in the end. Are they afraid they will actually be judged by God- when they are begging for his mercy in the end?
  
  You know the woman (I can't remember her name), who in the United States, is considered the founder of the Atheist coalition in the US? Do you know that there are actual documents and some voice recordings were she admitted to finding GOD and Jesus Christ??? Yeah, she was on her death bed no less. How convenient- wouldn't you agree?

  I for one will continue pointing out the obvious discrepancies between the way christians behave and the way they tell others they should be behaving.

  Many christians take offense when I point out the hypocritical rubbish and hatred they spread. And then get surprised that people have had enough of listening to it. Odd......

  Yeh, the History Channel did a Biography of her. I'll go track the story down or at least her name. The coalition has a web-site. I'll go get all that so you can research it for yourself. I like researching things for myself too. I hate when facts get messed up by fiction. Good morning. Mark I don't take your messages as a personal attack anymore. Quite frankly I am glad that I had my "nasty" experience with you. I feel I have been doing a lot better in that regards, despite what others think. I am following your lead so to say. I know if I called ALL Atheists demented terrorists, I think you would of slammed my butt to the ground(so to say) and taught me a lesson on being "narrow-minded" and "judgmental". I think I am definiately finding my niche. So most people in the religious forum don't like it- who cares right? I mean after all most Catholic Christians don't like being called ignorant. But I use the term like ignorant from it's root definiation as I'm sure you do. If you are NOT educated on the "Genocide in Africa", like I me.... you're ignorant. I was an ignorant Catholic then(AND I KNOW YOU MEANT GENERALLY ALL & NOT ME). But I am part of the Catholic fellowship. I don't believe I confronted you to badly or at all, when you mentioned that. If the shoe fits wear it. So enough with the babble.......
  
  [Quite frankly America's attention is always on China, Korea, Middle East, Latin America and MEXICO. Africa is an after thought; that many Americans believe to be a British and French problem. And a Portuguese issue as well. Americans tend to feel that Enland and France made the mess a couple of hundred years ago & up to the late 20th Century. So THEY should deal with it. Kinda like if Australia rose up and REVOLTED against England today- declaring England the enemy. The US wouldn't give two-poops about it. England made the mess- England can clean it up. Now my personal point of view is Africa is the worlds problem. Sorry I got off subject there. But my point is American Catholics don't go on Missions to Africa... So how are we to know first hand accounts of what NON-condom use is doing? ACath.'s go on missions to Latin America. Yeah alot of ACath's are ignorant. Are they demented terrorist.... NO!]

  Isn't the "sick and tiredness" you feel still stems from fear? Are you afraid of Christians repeating old habits and directing them ur way. Think of it like this for example; "OMFG! Not you Christian jerks again!" Fear is the root of all anger issues. Is it possible you fear you'll have to listen to it again, and again, and again? But under that layer- is it because you feel they maybe right? (Not saying the are...)

  No. I am not afraid. I am certainly not afraid that they are right because I have read and understood the bible, and I have read and understood the myths and stories that the bible stole it's story from.
  
  I have nothing to fear. I do get a little fed up at being preached at, and I have said many a time that if christians actually behaved in a christian fashion, I would not have a problem.
  
  I will give you an example - The Archbishop of Canterbury gave a speech recently claiming that the financial crisis was a good time to re-think our values and perhaps head back to church for spiritual guidance.
  
  When he made this speech, he was wearing a diamond and jewel-encrusted, gold threaded robe and standing in a massive edifice to god that took three generations of stripping the county bare of all wealth to build.
  
  Hypocrisy. Not interested.

Don't you find it hard to debate a direct, logical individual who can't apologize for an error or go about correcting it?

  You should read up on her. Very very very interesting person. OMG she was so hated by fanatical Christians. But thank goodness for her- I am a FIRM believer in keeping Church and State SEPARATE!!! She got prayer out of Public Schools in America. I couldn't thank her enough. I am a real big Activist on that issue. That is why I own so much information on this remarkable woman.

  How could anyone over the age of 25 or 30 who claims to be even slightly educated not have heard about this woman. My god (Pan by the way), at the stink which was stired. Personally I do feel there is a lot of people on both sides of this arguement which do use stereotypes. They are very present even in this line of comments. Do some christians maybe even most go on about what the bible teaches? Yes they do. Many bring the subject up out of simple discussion, in order to see where things are and see different views. I know for a fact that jgrimes fits in this catagory. I have been in debates with which she has taken part in, and I know where she stands. It's not what some may think. Which leads me to a question for Mark though. How has your line of comments been any different from what you claim you don't like about "christians". You sterotype all of them in the same manner many of them sterotype people like yourself, or me. Being Wiccan, I have heard it all.
  
  I think jgrimes question was a legit one. Why, on either side do people respond to the other side as they do? I really as yet seen a real answer on here about it. Alot of excuses and evasion but no real answers.
  
  Fact is Fear could be a factor. Whether one is christian or non-christian. The human race has a tendency to fear things they don't fully understand. It gets worse when there are those who don't live up to the standards they teach. By the way that is not just a problem with christian.

  I am afraid that the religions and governments will use the current situation to start another huge war that will swallow us all and many of the people I find here are the foot soldiers they will be using and the free propagandists they are already using.
  
  I fear the things I do understand - not the ones I do not. And I understand religion very well thanks.

Everybody scoffed at Van Gogh when he was alive. Therefore: my work is like Van Gogh, the more it is hated the better it must be. Also have heard the same from cultists.

I don't personally stereotype all Christians.

The absolutely best and most wonderful woman I know is a Christian - my mother. She's also low-key, private about it, and doesn't dismiss science or evolution.

I don't think there is much evidence of persecution of Christians in modern day America. You hear Christians complain about it, but I don't personally see it. Persecution is when someone hurts you or discriminates against you because of your race, religion, sex, sexuality, whatever. Christians are the mainstream group in the U.S. Most people self-identify as Christian.The current and past President are Christian.

I do hear Christians in these forums complain about persecution but I think they distort the term. Just because some people don't like them or don't agree with them--that isn't persecution or stereotyping. That's just life. Some people don't like me. I don't feel like they are persecuting me or stereotyping me, I just feel like you can't please everybody.

If someone showed up at my door and killed my cat just because I held a certain belief, then I'd feel persecuted. But if someone says to me, "Oh that's rubbish Pam, that's hogwash, I disagree," I'd just think they disagree.

Just being the target of a disagreement doesn't make somebody a victim. Also, I don't disagree with people because I fear their ideas, I disagree when their ideas seem wrong to me. In a free country we get to do that.

  You're right. "Persecution" is far too strong a word for the intellectual, social and philosophical opposition we face here in the States. (Now, I do think certain people who shall remain namless, might LIKE to increase the persecution level to something real...) BUT calling the opposition we face "Persecution" disrepects the Christians in parts of Somlia, China, India and the Middle East who are truly persecuted.

  Quite right - the intellectual, social and philosophical opposition is necessary for a society. The ones who claim persecution the most are those who are themselves unwavering in their beliefs. If you dish out judgment, expect a backlash. Not just picking on US Christians, because other religions have extremists that are the first to cry 'foul' if somebody has the temerity to shout back at them.
  
  Luckily, most people are moderate, so we can have a bit of a laugh during the philosophical debates

Both mom and calf are gone. Had to get out the way it came in. I made the hole bigger. Have to assume it left the way it came and I missed it. So I assume the problem is solved. The farmer told me that might happen. And I told him I wasn't going to tend his fence for him. The kids are always going thru there.

Oh come off it, Christianity is not under threat. Not from atheists and not from whatever stereotype you think is affixed to it. This faux-siege mentality and cries of discrimination against Christianity are misguided at best and counterproductive and ignorant at worst.

Julie, Based on the entire thread that I have read when you started making comments, you have came off rude and condescending. In order to get your point across you do not have to come out of the gates defensive. As for the woman you were discussing I am aware of her and look where she ended up, six feet under. You state that we stuff our beliefs down your throat but yet, the woman that you are praising did the same thing. Our founding fore-fathers are probably turning over in their graves, and to think you as well call yourself an American? Shame on you!! I am not one to push my Christian beliefs on anyone and Mark would attest to that, but you are hurtful and cruel to so many when they are simply stating their opinions.
Uninvited Writer is correct as you need to review your comments as they appear to me as well that you are being rude and this is why you are being bashed at making little or no sense.
You have diplomacy and tact in you, use it as a little kindness goes a long way.
You also owe "UNINVITED WRITER" an apologize as that remark was cruel and hurtful!!!::::

  Rude? I don't get it. Would you rather I'd just lie and so about brown nosing everyone, just so they'd "like" me. To some people kissing each others bottoms seemed to be the only thing that matters here on hubpages. Am I belittling? Sure. Ever listen to a Defense lawyer through out a trial? A really good one... The only thing that I see around here are Judges.
  Does that help move an issue along? No, that usually leads to more "kissing each others bottoms" if you agree. Does that help solve anything? I would much rather comfront a person in a communication matter, than to have other outcomes exist because nobody was wrangling an issue and worrying about manners. For an example; Let us say that a BIG group of Scientists and Engineers are at a Zoo. And they're there for research on evolution and disproving the God stuff . Now try to follow me here; but let us say that a group of Religious Terrorist (I prefer Zealits) pass them by. But in passing them by, they shot all the Scienctists and Researchers dead... because they thought they were trying to disprove the "God" theory. Now for a REAL example.... Eric Robert Rudolph . Any of you ever heard of this man???? Eric Robert Rudolph.....
  He is the Olympic Park Bomber, Atlanta, GA, USA in 1996. Why did he kill two people and injured more than 90 to a 100 people? ABORTION! Nobody was talking about it. No. Should I've posted back to LondonGirl that I have 1 son who has never even heard of the Beatles and one son who is a history buff- but to him Winston Churchill is a big fat advertisement for promoting cigars?   My,My kissing each others bottoms that could cause some issues, seriously I did not realize that you are not AMERICAN with regards to Eric Rudolph all of us are aware of him , with regards to disappointment absolutely not , as sometimes it is good to vent and let it all out as that is what makes some of us feel better, I would certainly be concerned if you were ranting and raving and didn't vent as then you certainly would not have any substance with regards to what you are addressing. If you are here to avoid future bombs, I cannot think of one person on here , who would bomb anybody can you? I have been FORCIBLY raped , you should read about my life and I will never forget it, but I am certainly an ADVOCATE for others who have dealt with the same experiences, so it really isn't something to laugh about.
  I believe that you just want your voice heard and the only way you can do that , is to taunt, argue and be blunt, you feel if you are kind about it nobody will pay attention, the fact of the matter is sometimes you can make people listen as you are reading and paying attention to me now aren't you? BPD( Bi-POLAR DISORDER) and having it , does not make anybody an idiot it just makes them more on edge then a normal person and quite moody. There is medication for that and I am certain that you are taken it. Relax and take a deep breath we are listening.

  Honey, BPD is an abbreviation that we use for Bi-Polar so I apologize for the error I certainly know what the differences are as I am a R.N. so you do not have to shout. I will be happy to read your articles and I do not think you are stupid as you have experienced horrible things which is unfortunate and I learn something everyday , you have just shown me a reaction that is caused by your illness , so I have learned something and so have you.

  I just started to read the forum and I felt as you know that she had been rude, but I do have to say she may not come back as I really irritated her and to think 98% of the time I am kind as it is just my character and I believe many would fall off there seats if I would have tore her apart
  however just like you I was being diplomatic and she lost her ever living mind, I do however feel bad for her and I certainly hope she is in counseling and is on meds.

My son uses that terminology and I would hope that you would be over 8. Act like an adult and use proper verbage , if you want people to listen to you, and why would you delete your articles???? Reading through these posts, I found one sentence a person wrote which was:

I don't think there is much evidence of persecution of Christians in modern day America.

A voice doesn't declare the totality of persecution. With Christ being removed from everything, schools, events and even some churches, this too is a form of persecution.

It isn't anywhere near persecution, in my view.

I do immigration law, and one of the key international tests for being a refugee is "a well-founded fear of persecution".

To quote from the House of Lords case of Horvath:

"Professor Hathaway, The Law of Refugee Status, makes it plain in his chapter on "Persecution" that in his view the intention of the drafters of the Convention was to restrict refugee status to situations where there was a risk of a type of injury that would be inconsistent with the basic duty of protection owed by the state to its own population. In the course of his discussion of this concept he says this, at p. 104:

"The existence of past or anticipated suffering alone, therefore, does not make one a refugee, unless the state has failed in relation to some duty to defend its citizenry against the particular form of harm anticipated."

At pp. 104-105 he suggests that persecution may be defined as "the sustained or systemic violation of basic human rights demonstrative of a failure of state protection." Guy S. Goodwin-Gill, The Refugee in International Law, (Clarendon Press, 1996), 2nd ed., pp. 70-71 notes that the concept of persecution is not limited to the actions of governments or their agents, and that persecution can result where protection is unavailable because governments are unable to suppress the activities of the perpetrators or unwilling or reluctant to do so or are colluding with those responsible. "

This isn't just a legal issue. People I see who have been persecuted for their religion have been repeatedly raped, beaten, kidnapped, imprisoned,tortured, had relatives killed in front of them, had their daughters forceably converted and married off, had their entire possessions stolen or burned. That's persecution.
