Retreats at the Franciscan Renewal Center

Private retreats, spiritual spa weekends, and more

The Franciscan Renewal Center offers a variety of retreats and other programs, some with specific purposes and others that are more open and tailored for rest and relaxation.

Retreats include private retreats where guests can "rest, reflect, and pray." During these retreats a spiritual director helps guide people to what they personally want out of the time spent at The Casa.

Spiritual Spa Weekends are offered monthly for one weekend, starting on Friday evening and lasting till Sunday morning. During this time, guests can choose activities such as Eucharist at 7:00 a.m., stretching, spiritual direction, tour of the grounds as well as massage.

Various retreats such as living the gospel, divorce and separation, grief, twilight retreat, and a peace retreat are held at The Casa. Classes include water exercise, the art of stained glass, and spirituality and aging.

The Labyrinth

In the large open area near the back of the center where the nature trails meander is a labyrinth. This circle is formed of rocks that end in the center.

There is a posted sign with suggested ways of using the labyrinth. Basically it says to enjoy the labyrinth as you feel while walking through the paths. Be quiet, be joyful, just be.

Nature -- What to See at The Casa

Critters and Cactus and More

Because The Casa sits on 25 acres, there is plenty of nature to see while attending a retreat or visiting the center. The peaceful surroundings lend themselves to reflection and spiritual inspiration and growth.

I walked around the grounds one day and spotted numerous lizards. They all tended to scurry away, but if I stood still, I was able to capture a few in photographs.

If I'm ever in Scottsdale, I'd like to visit the Franciscan Renewal Center. I enjoyed a retreat at a Franciscan Sisters' Center in Minnesota. I'm not Catholic, but appreciated the peace and beauty.
