Free Bible Videos - A Gift to the World

As a gift to the world, from the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (Mormon) another beautiful collection of New Testament Bible videos have been released -- just in time for Easter. Beginning with the Savior’s triumphant entry into the holy city of Jerusalem, to the cross on Calvary, each video documents the poignant scriptural account, leading up to, and finally, the glorious Resurrection -- of which all Christians rejoice!

Easter Bible Videos

These Easter videos, along with other New Testament Bible videos, can be found at The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos website. Each video closely follows the scriptural account of the Savior’s life and teachings, found in the King James version of the Bible -- which make this resource of great value for those of all Christian denominations. In other words, the scriptural text is the script.

The story of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the very center of all Christian teachings. These wonderful Bible videos are intended to be an excellent resource for teaching both in our families and at church.

What I’ve personally found both helpful and enjoyable, as I’ve been trying to focus on the true meaning of Easter, is to first watch each video and then carefully read the account from the Bible, or vice versa if you prefer. I think this is also a great way to use these Easter videos with your children. In this way, it really can help bring the scriptures to life. One thing you will notice, when watching this collection of Bible videos, is that no additional dialogue is added. The videos follow the actual biblical text, leaving the interpretation to the viewer -- as it should be.

The Holy Land Movie Set

The making of The Life of Jesus Christ Bible videos is under the direction of the First Presidency - which consist of the President of the Church and his two counselors. This is the highest governing body in the LDS Church. President Thomas S. Monson, whom Mormons sustain as a prophet, have firsthand input in all aspects of the production -- throughout the entire project. This includes approving the filming location, sets, scripts and all key actors. This is why these videos are presented as a gift from the "First Presidency" of the Church.

To the Church, it was very important to not only be true to the scriptural text when filming each New Testament account, but the video had to look authentic -- meaning, like it was shot in the Holy Land. Many sites were considered, even possibly traveling as far away as Africa. But after a lengthy search to find just the right place a remote, Church owned property, in Goshen, Utah, turned out to be the perfect location to build the movie-set.

The next challenge was to re-create various sets for filming. At first thought one might wonder why they didn't just film in the actual Holy Land. That sounds logical, but the main problem with that idea is that things have changed over the last 2000 years. This left the production team with the challenge of recreating a holy-land 'type' movie-set, authentic to the time when the Savior was upon the earth.

The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos

The release of the Easter collection Bible videos follows the earlier release and launch of The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos Website -- of which I wrote about in this Hub. You might also be interested in knowing that this is only the beginning of the project. All in all, there will be about 100 New Testament Bible videos released when complete.

Since that time I’ve been intrigued with, what I understood to be, the great lengths that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints went to, to produce these videos. Among other things, is the impressive movie-set that was built in Goshen, Utah, where these videos were filmed. So, on a recent trip to Utah, to attend a church conference, I decided to see if I could tour the site while in town. To my great delight, special arrangements were made. And just so you know how cool that was, it's a closed set, not open to the public.

Tour of the Holy City

With a few members of my family, we were able to spend a full morning, with Timothy Taggart, touring the movie-set in Goshen. What a wonderful experience that was. Not only is Taggart an executive producer of the Bible videos, but he also gives tours to the actual Holy Land. As we meandered through the set, Brother Taggart shared detailed information about every aspect of the project, from inception to where they are currently in production.

With iPad in hand, to show us actual scenes from the completed Bible videos, Taggart escorted us on an unforgettable holy city tour. There were numerous times that I truly felt like I had been transported to the Holy Land, walking where Jesus walked -- so authentic is the Goshen movie-set. Although not a complete reproduction of the holy city of Jerusalem, the set recreates specific scene-sets, needed to film the videos. These "sets", if you will, are woven throughout what appears, on the outside, to be a large, ancient, building structure -- approximately the size of a football field.

Meandering through the set around every corner and angle, is a unique perspective completely different from the previous encounter. The design and architecture of the set is truly magnificent, creating numerous angles from which to film various biblical accounts. In mere steps we could observed both distinct Roman and Greek influence in design. I couldn't help but be amazed at the forethought, planning, and inspiration that went into designing the Goshen movie-set.

Even when directly standing in front of the set structures, it was difficult to believe that the materials used to create the set included foam and fiberglass. That's right. Creating a stone structure using cement-covered molded foam -- then textured and painted -- built to last 20 years. If I had not seen it with my own eyes and knocked on it, literally, I never would have guessed in a million years.

Goshen, Utah was ultimately chosen for its similarity to the actual holy land. With its rolling hills, sandy dirt and wide open expanses, it was ideal for creating a movie-set that would allow for not only the current New Testament Bible videos, but also in future production, with the Book of Mormon videos being next, and finally the Old Testament. So you can see why this movie-set needed to be so versatile and lasting.

When the entire scripture video library is completed, it will be the largest repository of short Bible/scripture videos in the world. Church leaders desire that people of all faiths will make use of these inspiring videos to increase their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and their understanding of the Bible.

I hope you enjoy seeing all of the great pictures that I was able to take when I toured the Goshen movie-set. I've posted at the very bottom of this article, above the comments section. I'm planning on adding some descriptions when time permits.

For me personally, I love these videos. Each one is so beautifully produced and has strengthened my own testimony of Jesus Christ. I love how the scriptural accounts come to life as I ponder upon the text and am able to visually see how things might very well have happened. There is something very powerful in knowing the great love and detail that went into every facet of the making of these Bible videos. Truly, these will be a blessing to every person who loves the Bible and has a testimony of Jesus Christ; his birth, life, death and Resurrection.

I am so grateful for Jesus Christ. I love Him. He is my personal Savior and Redeemer. His glorious Resurrection ensures that all of mankind will also live again -- and that by keeping His commandments we can claim Eternal Life. Living the gospel has brought tremendous blessings to me personally, and to my entire family. It is my testimony that Jesus Christ lives -- and that through Him families can be together forever!
