Gratitude of the Heart, Mind and Soul

Updated on February 2, 2012

Gratitude in Today's World

About twenty years ago I began my journey down the road of gratitude. I'd be lying if I said it has been an easy one. There are times when my realizations of gratitude were so bountiful I could have cried from joy. There have also been times when my own personal issues clouded my sight and gratitude was nothing more than a shrouded isle on the evening horizon. The one thing I have learned over these years is to never give up, to never stop being grateful.

Very often we are not aware of just how important gratitude is in today's ever busy world. The American culture is often one of expectation and entitlement directed towards what we don't have instead of stopping to reflect on the importance of what we do have. I'm not speaking of the material things that we long for but the simple most powerful things that we possess such as family, friends, health and even loved who while no longer present taught us so much. This is my way of giving back to the world and helping others take time out each day to stop, reflect and, hopefully, realize just how much there is to be grateful for. These past two years have been especially challenging for me. Some of the time has been spend lost drifting on a mired sea of depression often fighting through each day to remember the small embers of gratitude that I am so thankful never went out.

I hope you come to find gratitude helpful in some small way each and every day. I know I do.

Good hub, Bill. Though your advice is propounded by many people, it's something we can all benefit from hearing again. It's easy to forget to take positive actions like being grateful, so this is a good reminder. Voted it useful. Welcome to Hubpages.
