Bella & Edward's Love Endures
Stephanie Meyer's novels come to life on the big screen! The latest in The Twilight Saga is "New Moon," released in December of 2009. It was well received by fans with the biggest single day domestic gross of $72.7 million. This is not surprising, given the incredible response to the 2008 movie "Twilight."
I saw the movie twice in the theater and will see it again on DVD. Why? Because it is full of romance and hidden spiritual messages, the stuff many women love in a movie. "I Saw This The Other Day And Got It For You... Catches Bad Dreams."
Jake says this to Bella in the school parking lot on the morning of her 18th birthday. He gives her a dream catcher which originates from the Native American culture. It is hung over a person's bed and is used as protection from nightmares. The web in the center of the ring catches the nightmare and does not allow it to filter through. Daylight destroys the bad dreams. Good dreams are allowed to pass through the net and slide down the feathers to the sleeper.
Jake just happens to give Bella this gift before a very stressful time in her teenage life.
This quote symbolizes synchronicity, meaningful events occurring out of nowhere. Because Jake had followed his instincts and bought the dream catcher for Bella, she had spiritual support during the upcoming crisis.
Gift of Life
"If You Believed As Edward Does, Would You Take Away His Soul?"
At Bella's 18th birthday party, she gets a paper cut while opening a gift from Alice. Jasper is overcome with the sight of her blood and attempts to kill Bella. In a split second, Edward moves to protect Bella and accidentally injures her. Carlisle Cullen doctors Bella's wounds and says this quote in the ensuing conversation. Bella confirms that Edward believes vampires have no soul.
This quote shows us the depth of Edward's love for Bella. He wants to be with Bella for an eternity, however, because he believes he will turn her into a soulless vampire, he is not willing to change her. This is even against Bella's wishes and feelings because she is able to see the good inside Edward. In this sense, Edward's choice reflects the gift of life.
"It Is My Job To Protect You."
After the birthday party incident, Edward realizes the danger he and his family pose to Bella. He decides to leave Forks, Washington permanently and lies to Bella about the reasons why, leaving her depressed and heartbroken for several months. During the departing conversation, Edward says this quote to Bella, imploring her to stay safe.
In this movie, Edward plays almost a secondary role because he is gone from Forks and the plot follows Bella's sadness and recovery. His character becomes that of a ghost, or, more appropriately, an angel because he watches over Bella and alerts her when she is close to danger.
This quote reminds us of the presence of angels in our lives. Each one of us has angels around for comfort, protection and healing. When you want assistance from your angelic helpers all you have to do is ask, saying "Angels, please help me to (fill in the blank)." The more you communicate with your angels, the more you will feel their loving presence in your life.
Law of Attraction
"Nothing But What I Always Expected Would Happen And Nothing Compared To What Could Have Happened."
Edward's fears have come to life when Bella is attacked by Jasper at her 18th birthday party. He explains, telling Bella this quote, while in the woods before leaving Forks, Washington with his family permanently.
With this quote we are reminded of the Universal Law of Attraction. Thoughts manifest reality, simple as that. What in the past has been known through psychic channeled materials only, is now becoming mainstream through scientific proof with quantum physics. Be aware of your thoughts. If you have difficulty thinking about what you truly desire and get caught up in negative self-talk then start practicing focusing exercises for your mind. This will help you redirect your thoughts when they creep up on you.
One simple focusing exercise is to sit comfortably, notice your breath and look at an object in the room. Think about the object and your breath. Breathe slowly and with intention. When your thoughts wander, simply redirect them to the object and your breath. Continue this process for 5 minutes and work up to as long as you like.
"When Edward Left He Took Everything. The Absence of Everything is Everywhere I Look. It's Like a Huge Hole Has Been Punched in My Chest."
Edward believes his presence is too much of a threat to Bella's safety so he and his family move away. He cuts all communication with Bella, lying to her that he does not care for her. Bella is devastated. She is extremely grief stricken and her sleep is disturbed. Even though the email address is no longer current, Bella continues to write Alice about her feelings and thoughts, including this quote. It becomes her personal diary.
This quote addresses the unhealthy side of Bella and Edward's relationship, etheric cords.
Doreen Virtue, Ph.D, explains these cords: "The chakras often have 'etheric cords' protruding from them. These cords, which look like surgical tubing, extend to chakras in other people with whom we've had relationships.
"Fear within our relationships forms these cords. The fear may be characterized as co-dependency, attachments, fear of abandonment, or unforgiveness. Etheric cords act like hoses, with energy directed back and forth between both people. Therein lies the problem with having them."
When Edward left, he severed Bella's unhealthy etheric cord of attachment, leaving her feeling drained and abandoned. While it is a positive thing to cut these cords, releasing the dysfunctional parts of a relationship, Bella was not the one breaking the negative flow of energy and did not understand what was happening to her.
Friendship, Love, Support
"...Jake Makes Me Feel Better. The Hole in My Chest is Well When I'm With Jake. It's Like It's Healed For a While."
Once Edward has moved away from Forks, Washington, Bella finds herself enjoying thrill-seeking activities because they bring Edward's presence close to her, warning her of danger. She wants to ride dirt bikes and asks Jacob Black to help her rebuild a couple she has found in the junkyard. They hang out and become close buddies.
Bella writes this quote to Alice's old email address and reflects on how much the friendship with Jacob has helped her heal from the loss of her relationship with Edward.
This quote addresses the importance of friendship in our lives. During times of stress and unhappiness, remember that friends can give support and love. Recognize this, accept it and be thankful for it. No matter how bad the situation might feel, each person is worthy of receiving love from another and from his or herself. This is an important acknowledgement in the process of life.
Power Animal: Wolf
The Shape Shifter
When Bella misses Jacob for weeks, she discovers that he has been inducted into the shape shifter group of his tribe and that he is a werewolf. The werewolf is a dire enemy of the vampire. This obviously adds much conflict to Bella's life, but she understands that Jacob and his clan of werewolves have been hunting Victoria, a vampire searching to kill Bella due to the death of her mate in "Twilight."
According to ancient shamanic wisdom regarding animal spirit guides, the wolf has a strong sense of family and community. He is protective but at the same time affectionate with family and friends. The wolf is very passionate and expressive of emotions, both verbally and non-verbally. He is also a teacher and an intuitive.
The character of Jacob represents these innate powers of the shape shifter, the werewolf or the wolf. Bella has made a wise choice in friends.
Connection With Inner Being
"You're Just Warm. You're Like Your Own Sun."
After Bella makes a daring attempt at cliff diving and is rescued by Jacob, she feels cold and weakened from the icy waters of the Pacific North West. She notices Jacob's body heat when riding in his truck after this incident. Bella tells Jacob this quote and is drawn to him in a loving, intimate way. She cannot betray her love for Edward, however, so the moment passes without a kiss.
Bella does not recognize her true feelings for Jacob. She confuses physical attraction for an attraction to inner beauty. The warmth or sun she feels from Jacob is his inner being or soul. She loves Jacob, but not in a romantic way. Her love for Jacob is very strong, however, because it is guided by Divine light and supported by their close bond of friendship.
"You Would Give Up Your Life For Someone Like Us, A Vampire. A Soulless Vampire."
Because Edward mistakenly believes Bella has committed suicide, he turns to the Voltari, a powerful vampire coven in Italy, known for their abilities to kill vampires. Moments before he is to expose himself to humans in direct sunlight, Bella arrives to stop him, forgive him and set him free of her attachment. They are then taken by the Voltari who determine that Bella knows too much and should be killed. Edward objects and fights for Bella. Once he is subdued by the more powerful vampires, Bella pleads that they should take her life and spare that of Edward. Aro, the Voltari leader, says this quote to Bella after hearing her words.
Bella is offering the ultimate sacrifice for Edward because she knows his true inner Self is holy, not soulless or that of a monster. Without thinking, she offers her life for his and this saves both their lives. Bella believes in something greater than human form exists and that in the existence of such love, her love for Edward will exist beyond death. When one is truly imbibed with this immense connection to All That Is, death is merely a stepping stone in our existence.
"Stop! You Can't Hurt Each Other Without Hurting Me."
Edward and Bella return to Forks, Washington after the Voltari spare their lives. The Cullen family votes that Bella should be turned to a vampire. Jacob, Edward and Bella meet in the thick woods because Jacob is angry, hurt and doesn't want Bella to be a vampire, the mortal enemy of the werewolf. The scene escalates between Jacob and Edward, but tension is stopped by Bella saying these quoted words to them both.
This quote symbolizes our connection as human beings to Mother Earth and All That Is. We must respect our planet, pray for it and nurture it gently because when we hurt Mother Earth, we hurt ourselves. Even in times of disaster it is important to release our feelings of anger and disgust so that we may be able to add positive healing energy for our planet.
"Marry Me Bella."
These are Edwards last words to Bella in the movie "New Moon." For anyone who has not read the Twilight Sage novels, talk about a cliff hanger!
This quote symbolizes the depth of love that Edward and Bella share. While there is a vast difference between their experience in life, they are able to accept and cherish each other. Love exists beyond the outer appearance of a relationship.
Consider the cross cultural marriage. While forbidden by society not too long ago, these relationships are moving into the mainstream in the United States, symbolizing the evolution of man's understanding of love.
To agree upon the contract of marriage is the ultimate external symbol of love for one another. It is a way of publicly telling the other person that you will continue to be your best not only for your self but for your relationship so that you may each grow as individuals through the blessed union.
