John Titor - Time Traveler Photos

Updated on August 24, 2017

Could John Titor have been a real time traveler?

John Titor was the pseudonym of a person who claimed to be a time traveler from the year 2036. He appeared in internet chat rooms and on message board forums for a few months back in the winter of 2000 to 2001.

Many people believe John Titor's claims about time travel could be valid. I am one of those people.

Of course, there are many scoffers too. I will put up with the jeers and go ahead to tell you exactly what I've learned about John Titor - and why I believe this could be a real time traveler.

The image above is a drawing John Titor sent via the Internet, showing the official insignia of his 2036 time travel military unit. Since Mr. Titor has supposedly returned to the year 2036, it is unlikely he's concerned about copyright issues in the present year. These images have been posted and distributed on various internet sites ever since he disappeared.

More Prophecies of John Titor - What else do we need to know?

  1. My first experience with war came when I joined a shotgun infantry unit at the age of thirteen. In the 4 years I served as a "rebel", I watched hundreds of people get shot, burn and bleed to death. I know exactly where I was and every detail of the exact moment the first nuclear warheads began falling on Jacksonville.' (November 21, 2000)
  2. When asked, 'Are you here now to observe the results of the presidential election?' he replied, 'I would use the word "elections" a bit cautiously. Perhaps it's easier now to see a civil war in your future?' (November 11, 2000)
  3. 'We have cars, just not a whole bunch of them. There is public transportation from city to city.' (November 7, 2000)
  4. 'The Constitution was changed after the war. We have 5 presidents that are voted in and out on different term periods. The vice president is the president of the senate and they are voted separately.' 'If I could bring some material thing back to your time from 2036, it would be a copy of the new US Constitution.' (November 7, 2000)
  5. 'Far less medical treatment in the future even though It's more advanced. People die when they know it's time to die. No lasers. Genetic medicine and cloning organs are the obvious new techs in the future.' (November 7, 2000)

Prophecies of John Titor - ...according to his knowledge of our future.

Not all of John Titor's prophecies are included in this list. I include only a few prophecies from the early days of his year 2000 Internet postings. If you want to read his entire collection of writings, please go to my source.

  1. 'A world war in 2015 killed nearly three billion people. The people that survived grew closer together. Life is centered on the family and then the community. I cannot imagine living even a few hundred miles away from my parents.' (November 4, 2000)
  2. '... the ice caps are not melting any faster than they are now. There is also far less smog and industrial waste in 2036.' (November 6, 2000)
  3. 'Life is much more rural in the future but "high" technology is used to communicate and travel. People raise a great deal of their own food and do more "farm" work. Yes, compared to now, we do work long hours.' (November 7, 2000)
  4. 'Yes, there is a post office. The Internet is still alive and well in the future. People spend more time talking because life is more centered on the community. I've noticed the same type of effect here when the power goes off. People tend to come out of their homes and actually spend time with their neighbors. There is a lot more personal trust and less paranoia.' (November 7, 2000)
  5. 'There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005. That conflict flares up and down for 10 years. In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States (which is the "other side" of the civil war from my perspective), China and Europe. The United States counter attacks. The US cities are destroyed along with the AFE (American Federal Empire)...thus we (in the country) won. The European Union and China were also destroyed. Russia is now our largest trading partner and the Capitol of the US was moved to Omaha Nebraska.' (November 7, 2000)
  6. '[In the future] Hydrogen fuel cells and more efficient solar cells are big deals. Computer technology and software get MUCH better.' (November 7, 2000)
  7. 'After the war, early new communities gathered around the current Universities. That's where the libraries were. I went to school at Fort UF, which is now called the University of Florida. Not too much is different except the military is large part of people's life and we spend a great deal of time in the fields and farms at the "University" or Fort.' (November 7, 2000)
  8. 'Yes, we have cameras. More digital. Film is used like painting is today.' (November 7, 2000)
  9. 'Yes we have phones but the service is through the web. Most power generation is localized. It amazes me how much power is wasted now. Yes, solar is big. There is thought that a singularity generator could also be used but most people are against it.' (November 7, 2000)
  10. 'The elderly are highly revered and looked after on a community level. So are orphans. There is always something people can do now matter what. The idea of avoiding work is looked down on. Everyone pulls together to keep the COMMUNITY strong.

'Hats are more common in the future and flashy colors are less common. Dress is much more functional and we "dress up" whenever we get a chance. I have noticed that no one in this time dresses for occasions even when they have the clothes. Why do people wear shorts to church?

'We do not spend nearly the amount of time on our hair as people do now. Women like to wear their hair longer and men have it much shorter. Both sexes shave it all off when they're in active military service.' (November 7, 2000)

The Story of John Titor

...who John Titor was and where he came from.

John Titor told us he was born in 1998. He grew up in Florida, participated in a civil war, and was employed by the military in the year 2036.

He wrote, "When I was 13, I was a soldier. As a teenager, I helped my dad haul cargo. I went to college when I was 31 and I was recruited to 'time travel' shortly after that."

He explained, "In 2036, a great deal of effort is going into 'repairing' our environment. I was sent to 1975 to get a computer system and take it back to 2036."

Later he explained more: "The first 'leg' of my trip was from 2036 to 1975. After two VGL checks, the divergence was estimated at about 2.5% (from my 2036). I was 'sent' to get an IBM computer system called the 5100. It was one the first portable computers made and it has the ability to read the older IBM programming languages in addition to APL and Basic. We need they (sic) system to 'debug' various legacy computer programs in 2036. UNIX has a problem in 2038."

From 1975, he decided to travel to the year 2000 where he was living with his parents and his 2-year-old self.

He traveled back in time in a 1967 Chevy - which he sold in the year 2000. He first saw that car in 2036. It was chosen because his first destination was to be 1975 and the car would be inconspicuous for that time period. His new car was a 1987 4WD, which he planned to return to 2036 in.

John Titor described his life in 2036 in many ways. Here is one paragraph from the collected writings: "My greatest joy is sailing. For fun, I enjoy swimming, playing cards, reading, playing games on the net and talking with people who live in other countries. As a community, we celebrate much more and have bon fires and dances. My hobby is sorting through old magazines and videos of life before the war." He was referring to a civil war in the USA culminating in an attack on America by Russia in 2015.

His observations of life in our civilization during the year 2000 were not flattering: "I watch every day what you are doing as a society. While you sit by and watch your Constitution being torn away from you, you willfully eat poisoned food, buy manufactured products no one needs and turn an uncaring eye away from millions of people suffering and dying all around you. . . . Perhaps I should let you all in on a little secret. No one likes you in the future. This time period is looked at as being full of lazy, self-centered, civically ignorant sheep. Perhaps you should be less concerned about me and more concerned about that."

I feel the writings of John Titor are valuable for just that reason, as well as other reasons. Studying what he wrote gives one a chance for introspection, plus gives clues for what we might experience in the near future.

Understand how time-travel works - This is a book for writers, but anyone could learn about time-travel from it.

Time Travel: A Writer's Guide to the Real Science of Plausible Time Travel
Time Travel: A Writer's Guide to the Real Science of Plausible Time Travel

This book is written by a scientist for lay-persons without much background on how time-travel works.

Writers who want to create science fiction need to have a good basic understanding of the principles of time travel.

This book is a painless way to learn more, because time travel is a real possibility, and of course, it is very popular in fiction!

John Titor suggested that we should own a bicycle... - ...and spare bike tires!

Transportation issues may become serious in the future, and the ability to get around, priceless...

Do you own a bicycle with spare tubes?

About that revolution predicted by John Titor - Did it happen? Will it?

The main reason why people visiting this page don't believe John Titor was a real time traveler is... that a civil war hasn't happened yet.

John Titor, however, was from another dimension, similar to ours, but not exactly the same. He used the term "worldline" to describe his separate reality.

In our worldline, a revolution hasn't taken place, but during the last decade since John Titor appeared online, it has become clear to everyone that a revolution is brewing, and might possibly be in our future. Tensions have escalated exponentially since 2000, back when most people thought the USA was pretty-much a fine place to live.

Many people are trying to keep it in a non-violent form, perhaps in part because we were warned by John Titor before it could happen. Perhaps this is a way a time traveler could disturb a visited worldline.

If you're still not convinced there's a revolution in the USA, you're welcome to watch some of the videos below.

The Time Machine

...actual photos of a machine John Titor claimed transported him through time.

On the first day John Titor appeared online, November 2, 2000, he wrote,

"The basics for time travel start at CERN in about a year and end in 2034 with the first "time machine" built by GE."

Later in the day he wrote:

"I saw the posting requesting the basic systems for a gravity distortion system that will allow time travel. Here they are:

1. Magnetic housing units for dual microsignularities.

2. Electron injection manifold to alter mass and gravity of microsingularities.

3. Cooling and x-ray venting system

4. Gravity sensors (VGL system)

5. Main clocks (4 cesium units)

6. Main computer units (3)"

About Time Travel - ...things John Titor told us about time travel.

Please understand that I'm unable to include all the time travel information, which is voluminous. If you want to read the entire collection of John Titor writings, please go to my source.

  1. "While the machine is on, everything is black. When the machine is turned off, it is the reverse affect. It appears you are driving out from a bridge. To tell you the truth, I'm usually sleeping when the unit turns off but yes, it does appear that the world fades in from black." (November 4, 2000)
  2. "The only real physical trace is a large chunk of ground missing from the point of origin and a large pile of dirt at the destination. The gravity field surrounds a small portion of the earth under you and takes it along for the ride. There is really no way around this." (November 4, 2000)
  3. "When traveling to other worldlines there is a system of clocks and gravity sensors in the machine that sample the environment before dropping out. It's called VGL, (variable gravity lock). If a cement block were there, the machine would "backtrack" until it sensed relative congruity to the original gravity sample. A great deal of time and effort goes into picking just the right spot since you cannot physically move during a displacement." (November 6, 2000)
  4. "Time travel is achieved by altering gravity. This concept is already proven by atomic clock experiments. The closer an observer is to a gravity source (high mass), the slower time passes for them." (November 7, 2000)
  5. "By rotating two electric microsigularities at high speed, it is possible to create and modify a local gravity sinusoid that replicates the affects of a Kerr black hole." (November 7, 2000)
  6. "The computer system is connected to the unit through an electrical bus. There are actually three computers linked together that take the same signals from the gravity sensors and clocks. They use a Borda error correcting protocol that checks the integrity of the data and trips the VGL system." (November 7, 2000)
  7. "Personally, I think 'UFOs' might be time travelers with very sophisticated distortion units." (November 7, 2000)
  8. "It is thought that being close to a gravitational field has a biological effect on all matter including cells. The effect is to slow the movement of electrons in the orbits of their nucleus, which slows the mechanical and biological functions of the observer close to the gravity. Thus the passing of time is a local phenomenon depending on how close you are to a gravitational source." (November 17, 2000)

Time Travel - is it really possible?? - What's your opinion?

Do you believe time travel is really possible?

More About Time Travel

I'm keeping this lens focused on John Titor and his information only, but the book you see below will provide a broader spectrum of time travel information. I'm planning another lens about time travel but that will involve a lot of research on my part so I don't expect it published right away.

So, do you think it is possible?

Could John Titor really have been a time traveler?

Great lens. We have all lost our way in this incredible age of advances in science. We take everything for granted and all that is happening at light speed is flying by. Computing, 3D Printing, Physics and Nanotech are racing ahead at exponential rates. Its coming folks! JimHouston33

@knit1tat2: I tend to believe that he was a real time traveler. Back in 2000 when he was here the unrest in the USA hadn't even manifested... remember, that was back before 9/11 and the Middle East wars. Before people started getting upset about GMO foods. But he knew that our food supply was bad, even then.

What a fun lens! I have to tell you... I was supposed to leave my house 20 minutes ago to meet some friends for cocktails (love me some bourbon), but I had to just make them wait on me; this is a fantastic read! It's an attractive and informative lens, and I had never even heard of John Titor before today. I can't wait to tell my friends tonight. They're going to think I have already gotten into the bourbon tonight! lol (Well, they wouldn't be wrong either). Thanks for the fun, and I look forward to seeing more of your lenses! :-)

Wow love John Titor Story I believe it! I've seen many amazing things in my short life!.......one experience I had when i was in my late twenties....I drove from outside Tennant Creek NT to Brisbane Queensland (google if you don't know), with my cousin in what seemed like 3 or so hours!! We didn't go through any towns whatsoever!! We left our camping spot at around 6ish and drove through some hazy weird landscape then all of a sudden we went through some clouds and to our shock and horror, the Brisbane sign was there!! I tell you we were in shock for days!!! This is not possible in our material world, I thought at the time!!! And no we weren't on drugs or anything like that , it just happened the once and I loved that we experienced that...just glad we didn't end up in some war torn country being shot at lol :) anyhow, I couldn't care less if anyone believes me or not and I DO believe this story! I often wonder if other people have had these experiences and would it not be considered time travel but something else?! Just curious :) Cheers Shell from NT. Australia

It's not really time travel he's just traveling through dimensions, slight misunderstanding if I was him I'd make the same mistake but he describes fits my theory of dimensions

    (my theory goes like this)

we are all currently in the third dimension but inside that there are dimensional "levels" and in these "levels" are universes that hold smaller dimensions that branch off of the first one started and from those branches they branch out even more each time there is a choice made by any living thing in said dimension but if there was to be an intrusion like John then they would branch off just like any other choice

(also i have never really heard of John Titor before today when I made this theory, heard the name before but paid no attention to it)

I've heard of this fella when he was active online the last time, but never checked it out (was busy on my own science fiction!) Still, he had many things to say verified in other sources and sciences, so he probably was exactly who he said he was!

@Cinnamonbite: This is false. I grew up in Central florida. Avon Park, in fact. We grew tomatoes all the time, and they were big suckers too! I've seen people grow corn in Florida too. It just isn't as common and you have to plant it at the precise area. It also helps to have them in an elevated garden box, not actually IN the ground. They are shipped because they grow more in abundance, but it is possible.

It is only a matter of time before it is proven. Proof is everywhere. You just have to know what to look for. But as Robyn P wisely pointed out, "...many are not ready for it." Many of your posts are indicative of such.

Thomass, I suggest you take caution with your accusations and reserve judgement until you are fully aware of the situation.

@anonymous: If he were trying to become famous from this, then why would he just drop off the face of the internet? It seems to me if someone were trying to get famous they would stick around for the "fame" part of it. Is there any way to track him back to his birth origins? Also as some have mentioned, it could be a made up name, so would not be able to track him. In that case, why use a fake name if you are trying to become famous?

I thought it was very fascinating when John said that we in the future will not be happy at how we are handling things now. Think about it...if you who are living in the present time went back 50 years and said we would be using cellphones, and have the intenet, and all the technology that we have now...would anyone believe you? Anything is possible...but many are not ready for it.

I do not believe John Titor was a time traveler at all, but time travel is possible.

John has not really provided any proof at all, it would have been easier to have believed in him if he had named a president in the future.

He also claims a World War which would be started by the Russians and the US retaliating. The next World War will begin with the Koreans.

Time travel is not based on gravity or atoms but is more to do with speed.

How do I know all this?

  • profile image

    anonymous 4 years ago

John Titor was either a prankster or legitimate. Proving which is the tricky part. Moving through space and time is fact today. Spatial displacement is easy. Temporal displacement occurs but is not yet controllable. The multiverse theory lends legitimacy to John Titor's statements. That which he spoke of may have taken place in a parallel universe unique to his space and time. I think precisely controllable temporal displacement / replacement can not be accomplished without the power of a computer system light years in advance of presently available hardware / software.

It's interesting that the things that happened on his own worldline are being referred to as prophecies. Time is more circular rather than linear, and we are anchored to an incredibly small portion of one tiny piece of "fabric" in time. This means that no matter what his worldline views are (the way he was raised, the year 2012, global warming, what have you), they will always differ from ours. This is simply because, in theory, if he is from 2036, already we can verify that we are living in a different worldline. These means that the chances that his view of "history" will be a little or a lot different than ours are very high. This means that there is absolutely no way for him to "prophecy" about our future. And even though the trends of the times may be extremely similar, the dates of different world events are more than likely going to be different on each worldline. In other words, I would not rule out the possibility or even probability that "John Titor" could have be a "time traveler". That being said, I would not call him a "fraud" because there was no civil war for us in 2005. I also wish that people would read and comprehend the things he has posted before they quickly slap a "fraud" label on his name. I think that, because we don't yet completely understand how to travel through time, the concept of time travel itself frightens many people and they will look for ways to disparage what was said so as not to accept the claims of time traveling.

@anonymous: I believe that using alternate logic John Titor could be telling the truth., The reason I think that is that the very things that appear to discredit him like the American civil war he said would happen in 2005 and the 13 year old children fighting he told with him having enough intelligence to present the pictures of a device no matter how crazy it looked. If he was from our dimension and lying he would have lied about things so improbable to happen in our dimension. However, in his dimension it appears 13 years olds fought as soldiers in 2011 and a US civil war happened in 2005. So the very implausibility of his statements to me lend a reverse type of logical credence. Most hoaxers if ther not retarded will at least lie about things either significantly far enough in the future to still debateor things that are probably likely to happen. Every idiot in the country knows that there is high improbablity of the us having a civil war.

@achivevery: We're living through tumultuous times and should prepare for the future by downsizing our lives, and learning to live with less. Human relationships are a greater cause of happiness than material possessions are.

If time travelings was made later in the future it Meens that we should be able to receive email from the future, because sending a man I beleave has to be more difficult to send then massages. Another thing is that if we are never able to return to exactly the same galaxie but close to a similar one, than there is no point in time traveling. The only one that will benefit from changing events will be the time traveler. Unless he does return to exactly the same time. Otherwise the time line we live in now will continue with out no change and ones the time traveler travels he will be stuck in a different dimension and won't be able to come back to his original time line. However if we can receive information from the future it won't change their time line but help us advance in ours it won't change ours in no way because we decide how we are going to use that information for good or for bad. If we are here in this time line already with this knowledge, it only Meens is part of our time line, and we can do what ever we want to do whit it. ( it was ment to be ).

In 2012, there are 7 billion people.

3 billion deaths from the war.

3 billion deaths from natural disasters. Volcanoes, earthquakes, flooding, insect, food, and waterborne illnesses.

If the Arctic ice continues to melt at its 2012 rate, it will completely melt by 2016.

The U.S. will invest in a local and high speed rail system of trains like Japan's.

People will do farm work because they can't get jobs and this is how they will survive.

The Internet not only continues, its even faster and people from the remote corners of the earth have access. We extend it to television and phones.

The post office system is a package and signed documents system. You can still send hand written letters if you want.

People do indeed spend more time outside with neighbors because the Internet is portable. We already see this starting to happen now with tablet devices.

The Civil War 2 in the U.S. is a Socialist war. It was an attempt to break the multinational strangle hold U.S. executives had on the world and on American families. Russia aids the rebellion but not with nuclear weapons.

The European Union and the Euro ends.

Solar power is efficient and so are alternate sources of energy including portable generators (free energy).

Most U.S. towns have the word Fort in front of them. That is because everyone is in the military for life. Every woman, man and child.

Everybody works in a Socialist military workfare-like system.

Life in 2036 is like U.S. Army life is today in 2012.

There is a cure for many cancers and AIDS, the delivery of medicine is not as good as it is today. But more of us in the future know advanced first aid.

The U.S. will flood and it will be politically divided in a tight federation. Each territory will have its own President. The power of each Secretary of State of each of the 5 territories will have greater power than they do today.

    Three historical events.

    1. The election of 2000 in which the Secretary of the State of Florida was the only person allowed to vote. Katherine Harris is one of the greatest villains in U.S. history.

    2. The election of 2004 in which voter fraud played an even greater role in the subversion of democracy and the fraudster who's airplane crashed because he forgot to fill the fuel tank?

    3. U.S. agencies knowingly allowing 911 to happen. From flight training to finish.

Not even remotely a worthy attempt at a hoax. The "IBM 5100" episode is pure twaddle (although there will be a problem with UNIX come 2038, but it doesn't take a time traveller to tell you that!).

The funniest part of the whole Titor thing is he said he wouldn't trust anything but his mother's homegrown tomatoes. Ok, have you had tomatoes grown in Florida? BAH HAHAHAhahahahahahahaha! The first thing I do when I leave the state is order something with tomatoes on it because I sure don't eat them here. Nasty. And then, GROWING them? BAH HAHAHAHAHAHHAA! Oh no, not unless you're trying for cherry tomatoes and you're using the strongest chemicals on the planet. Too hot most of the year. Bugs will decimate the fruit. Man, I tried growing them in pots in the screened-in porch and I STILL got worms that ruined them. We can grow citrus. The end. WAAAAAAY south, they can grow some tropicals like anon and sapote but in Central Florida it's too cold. I can't even do lychees although I have a friend with a better micro-climate who has a big tree, I'm so jealous. So growing edibles in Florida? What nonsense. All of our produce is shipped down from other states.

@thememorybooksh1: You never know. A lot of upstanding scientists, Einstein among them, believe it is possible. I know for me it seems improbable, but what do I know? I'm just a little old lady sitting at a computer in Northern California. I'm going to continue to believe the scientists are onto something. Besides, it makes life so much more interesting. Interdimensional and time travel... the new horizons! Remember, five hundred years ago, people believed the earth was flat.

He's wrong on just about everything he said here. How could anyone believe this guy. It's 2012 and there is no civil war. That alone exposes him as a hoax, he wouldn't get something as big as that wrong lol.

    @Linda BookLady: @LindaJM

John Titor claimed a Civil War would break out in the US in 2005. He also claimed that the Olympics wouldn't resume until decades after 2004 games. Neither of these obviously happened. The guy is a fraud in my book.

@anonymous: Jaylene... he time traveled back from the future of 2036 when he was 38 years old, or thereabouts. Then he came to our time in 2000 and was able to meet his 2yo self. This is a remarkable story and I still haven't found any reason to disbelieve it. He had amazing and accurate insights about our society and this society's future. I suggest you get a bike and extra tires because it is likely we may need them. Preparation is everything!

None of this makes sense ! If he was born in 1998, that means he's only 14 in 2012! So how could he time travel at a young age with an adult vocabulary! This isn't real so quit wasting our time!

  • profile image

    anonymous 5 years ago

I really don't care about the authenticity of his time traveling. what i found more interesting was his cautions on collapsing governments, a dissolving environment, and how people are forced to commune for survival. THAT'S the truth.

@Travelsaddle: I have been following the www.JohnTitor.com site for about 7-8 years now. If you read his original posts; you will find that John stated that the civil war would be so suttle; and that most people would not even realize they are in a civil war until 2013 or 2014. Another point of reference is the fact that makes great since. If John would give us too much information, it could have catastrophic effects on our past/present world-lines.Therefore he could not and would not give direct information on anything specific. So in reference to the world series game; did you ever stop to think..... maybe he played a little reverse psychology on us. The fact that he knew what team was going to be playing in any future super bowl game is fascinating in itself. Well, I could go on and on here. I recommend reading the original posts with an open mind. I have a little skepticism in me as well. But for me; there are too many things giving him credibility for me to say he is a hoax. My personal opinion is that John Titor is in fact a time traveler from our future 2036.

@anonymous: It might be possible but in a different way. Have you ever heard of the theory that states that when you reach the speed of light time stops. Scientist have also confirmed that the faster you travel the slower time will go. that's why they say astronauts are younger than they should be when that land back on earth.

  • profile image

    JosephDPekarcik 5 years ago

Just to keep in mind "John Titor" could be a made up name to hide their real identity. Im not saying that i believe this is true or not but it might be possible to slow down time. it is believed that when you reach the speed of light time stops. so if you travel faster than other obejects time will slow down for you but the object will age normally. I could be wrong im just speculating. So if you want to add more details or proave me wrong iy listen if you contact me.

  • profile image

    JosephDPekarcik 5 years ago

Weather or not John Titor is who he says he is time travel is possible but not as the way we think. It is said when you move faster time slows down allowinh you to live longer, supposedly when you reach the speed of light time stops. (I believe Einstien stated this but im not sure.) So if two people where born at the same exact time and one eventually traveled in space he/she would beger than the other person because they traveled faster than the other person and time "slowed down" for them. Scientists have said that after an astronaut traveles in space and returns to earth he/she is younger because of the speed they were traveling at. However I could and may be wrong so feel free to contact me to prove me wrong or provide me with any details I missed or got wrong. I will gladly listen to you. My email is joeypeakrcik@yahoo.com
