Kings of Israel and Judah Bible Study for Kids

Updated on November 24, 2013

Kings of Israel and Judah Bible Study for Kids

This section of our Bible study for kids is looking at the period of the kings of Israel and Judah, starting with King Saul. I have included coloring pages, crafts, worksheets, and more to help in your study of first and second Samuel, first and second Kings, and first and second Chronicles. Many of the stories in these books will be very familiar, such as David and Goliath, but others will be not so well known.

As a homeschooler, I felt that the Bible should be central to all studies and take a prominent place. When my children were younger, we read Bible story books, but as they got older, we started reading through the entire Bible, not missing anything out. That way we got to cover even those lesser known stories.

As you study through the Bible with your children, I recommend storing their work (drawings, written reports, coloring pages, worksheets etc) in a binder, or wait until the end of the unit and bind all the pages together with something like a comb binder. This book will serve as a great reminder for the children of all that they have studied.

Use these lined pages for your binder. Children can draw pictures, maps, family trees, or mindmaps in the box at the top and do their writing on the lines below. They can write summaries of the story, applications they have learned, copy out Bible verses, or write Bible verses from memory. If you have any other suggestions, please add them in the reader feedback section near the bottom of this page.

Applications from these Stories

  1. Hannah brought her problems to God. We can talk to God about the problems in our lives. He may not answer the way we want, but he will help us.
  2. God speaks to Samuel. God speaks to us today too - though maybe not in an audible voice. He will often speak to us through the Bible. We need to trust God.
  3. The Israelites demands a king because they think they know what's best for them. We shouldn't try to run our own lives, but always go to God when we need to make decisions.
  4. God chooses David, Jesse's youngest son, as Israel's second king. God reminds Samuel not to look at external appearances because God looks at their hearts. We should try to follow God's example.
  5. Solomon asks God for wisdom. It is better to ask God to make us more like him than to ask for riches, or power, or even health.
  6. Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army has leprosy and a servant girl suggests that he would be cured if he went to see Elisha. Naaman is cured and declares that he will only worship God from now on. Even young people can play a part in helping others.
  7. When Rehoboam became king he followed the advice of his friends rather than the experienced advisers and ended up having his kingdom split in two. Your friends may not always give you sound advice. Make sure that you get good advice, especially when making important decisions.
