Life's Simple Pleasures
Let Youself Have a Simple Pleasure
Whilst doing research today and finding out more stuff for more things. Opening ten different web pages to find out different ways to create more SEO. I could feel my body getting taught, my muscles bunching. Reading more stuff that I had to learn, understanding there was so much I did not know and so much I had to teach myself that I thought. . . . at some point today I have to stop and relax.
It was then that I took a break and decided to have a bubble bath, something I haven't done in a while. It was whilst in that bubbly, soft, loveliness of a bath I realised I was starting to get too wrapped up in my work and needed to just chillax and re-find some of life's simple pleasures.
It then occured to me that if I am sitting at my computer, sinews at breaking point, head vibrating with near information overload and need a reminder, then, may be you do too. So please be my guest and walk with me through this lens, to rediscover how to relax and enjoy, life's simple pleasures.
Simple Pleasure Of A Hot Bath
THE BUBBLE BATH!
It is ludicrous how we think that to have a break or enjoyment that we also have to spend, spend, spend, go abroad, buy a this or a that, when really, all we sometimes need is half an hour to enjoy tranquility in a lovely hot bubble bath, light a candle and relax.
This is not expensive to do, or difficult to book. OK some of you may not have a bath, so just have a nice hot shower and chill on your bed/sofa/floor with a cushion and let your mind float away to happy thoughts. Breath deeply and slowly and enjoy the feeling of your body's sinews and muscles unwinding, and relaxing.
It does not take long and it helps to sooth away the stress of the day.
A Simple Bubble Bath - made exceptional
I love a simple bubble bath, but to make it even more relaxing I have a little collection of essential oils that help to sooth away all stresses. I don't suggest buying all at once (even though I have found a great set below). Why not make it another little pleasure to go to health shops and sample the ones you like, and their therapeutic effects.
This mixture smells divine and gently lingers on your skin afterwards.
Ylang-ylang has a rich and sumptuous smell. It is known for its use against high blood pressure, skin complaints and is also considered to be a great aphrodisiac.
Jojoba essential oil is almost odorless and colorless although makers do add other essences to it. This oil can be used to nourish and moisturize all body skin and is also known to aid in the healing of skin complaints including acne, insect bites, eczema and psoriasis.
Orange Oil is Citrusy, sweet. It is used as a cure for Colds, constipation, dull skin, flatulence, flu, gums, slow digestion & stress
What can I say, a zillion little bottles for your delectation!
The Simple Pleasure of Nature - Birds in flight
Just go outside and watch birds in flight.
Enjoy there at oneness with the world.
Enjoy their artistry in the sky
Lifes Simple Pleasure of Poetry
Reading a beautiful poem.
Please be my guest and enjoy this one with me or find one of your own that fills you with pleasure, happiness, inspiration.
This one for me does all of that. I dabble in poetry and I truly am in awe of this poem. These words, to me, are just the epitaph of the meaning of the word 'inspirational'.
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in youv
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
By Rudyard Kipling
Life's Simple Pleasure of Poetry Books
Reading poetry I have found tends to come under the love/hate category, mainly because most of us had some dirge or other forced upon us at school.
However, I do find it uplifting, relaxing, inspirational, moving and hysterical, obviously depending on the poem!
Lifes Simple Pleasure of The Ocean - Watching the sea
Go to the beach and watch the ocean.
Watch the magnificence of the waves as they are propelled to land then retract to the deep.
I may be lucky that this pleasure is only 20 minutes away from my home. I don't live in California or Surfers Paradise, I live in Yorkshire, but I find the tranquility of the beach in winter, stunning.
Life's Simple Pleasure of Enjoying Time With Your Child - Relaxing, pure time with your child
I suppose the amount of work I do confuses my daughter more than anything, as I work from home, but, sometimes it seems to her that is ALL I do. So it is nice to take some time out and just go out with her, not to the shops, not to the cinema or any other purse led exercise but just out with her, me (and usually our dog) letting her talk my head off, run round with the dog or just, lay down in a field of daffodils and stare at the sky, as we did on this day.
Lifes Simple Please of Your Garden - Enjoying your garden, or a park
Just enjoying my garden is a pleasure for me and the best part about this is I don't have any travelling to do! If you don't have a garden go to a park and just breath in a little bit of nature.
Lifes Simple Pleasure of A Walk
Going For A Walk
Pack a bag with a flask of coffee/hot chocolate/herbal tea and pop it in a little back pack or shoulder bag (carrying anything in your hands for too long tends to become wearisome). Step out of your home and walk,it doesn't have to be for hours just around the area you live. The great thing about this one is it does not matter where you live, town, village, city anywhere. Take the time to look around you and enjoy the surroundings. I once went for a walk in Moss side in Manchester, which, at the time was a very poor and run down place, but just watching the people laughing and joking with each other, noticing the children playing in the open spaces was great, although it was not beautiful in itself, a lot of the people were. In the UK there is a world famous artist who's art is graffiti, Banksy is his 'tag', which illustrates (no pun intended) that art is everywhere. Beauty is everywhere we just have to start looking for it.
Life Simple Pleasure of Calming Meditation - Calming Meditation - The Great Healer
I cannot say enough how pleasurable meditation can be. It is definitely one of life's simplest of pleasures.
Meditation is not the art of crossing your legs in full lotus and keeping your back straight. Meditation quite literally means "think, contemplate". Having 10 - 15 minutes put a side a day is such a luxurious pleasure when used for meditation. Just sitting or laying in a comfortable position, eyes closed and clearing your mind, letting your body relax from head to toe, is, for me, pure bliss.
Meditation and it's myriad of health benefits (both physical and mental) have been scientifically researched for years. In my humble opinion, it needs no scientific documentation or evidence to tell me that it works, for I do it myself and the results are both instant and obvious. I do have various CD's I listen to and one of the family favourites is "The Daisy Pond" (I will put a youtube link below). So you can either just sit in a quiet spot and let your mind and body relax, or pop on a pair of headphones and listen to guided meditation, either way, it really is worth EVERY minute
Life's Simple Pleasures - Guided Meditations - On CD
As discussed guided meditation is a great way to introduce yourself to this wonderful relaxation process.
You will feel calm and de-stressed after just 10 - 15 minutes or more. The other great thing about meditation apart from the points noted above, is that it helps to open your mind to creativity and all the things you can do. It helps you look at your life and your actions in differing perspectives, so any disagreements you may have, meditation will allow you to see all sides of the rational of the argument rather than just yours. It literally gives you time to be, to understand, to relax.
Life's Simple Pleasures Ocean Sounds - If you Can't get to the ocean, bring the ocean to you!
The great thing about this information super highway we have at our fingertips is the ability to find what you need, when you need it.
I wrote about how being near the sea relaxed me so, I thought you may like a bit of it too! THANKS YOUTUBE!
Lay/sit back and relax
Lifes Simple Pleasure of Meditation - Meditation, can it get any simpler?
As promised above this is the daisy pond, unfortunately there is a final part to this that is missing, but if you follow the link it will take you to The American Monk web page (Burt Goldman), but there are free downloads all over the internet for this. The great thing about YouTube is there are literally hundreds of free led meditations for you to choose from.
I hope you like this one.
As you have seen there is a list there of things I do to relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures, what are yours.
GO ON make a brew, put your feet up and reply.
With thanks and appreciation.
