Dams and Issues
“Man’s extremity is God’s possibility”
Principle: The way to be a blessing in the earth is to find someone with which you can come in agreement for a worthy cause.
And if ye be willing and obedient to find the right person with whom you can be in agreement ye shall eat of the good of the land and peace will be in your household..
Let us set up our lesson by going first Luke 13:16. Read.
Here we see Jesus again being
opposed by legal experts; notably,
the rulers of the synagogue because he had loosed a woman which had a
spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11) for
18 long years on the Sabbath day. (I
am very doubtful that they would be in opposition if it had been their mother. Usually when situations
and conditions are close to us, we will allow for error, but when it’s over
yonder, get the rocks! This lawyer had come to take away Jesus’ “playing field”, so that he would appear disoriented and confused before his audience). We see here that the woman had an issue for 18 years but on the other hand, her accusers had been dammed by legal traditions and man made laws that would have withheld her deliverance.
In verse 15 we see Jesus assign a name to these "dammers" or legal experts; he calls them hypocrites of whom he asked, Luke 13:15, “Doth …”.
Jesus in Luke 13:16 mentions Abraham, the apostle of faith. He continues that, this woman was deserving of her healing because she was a daughter of Abraham.
Therefore, we will look at the foundation of Abraham and why he was such an important player, not only in the healing of the woman with the spirit of infirmity but as we shall see later, the woman with the issue of blood. Finally, it will be clear to us why God choose to answer His saints and the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is ever seeking first the Lord’s kingdom and his righteousness.
Covenant with Abraham – Genesis 12:1, 2,
1) Abraham was justified by faith in the promised Messiah, Genesis15:6, 9 10, 17, 18.
2) God told Abraham that He would be their God, Genesis 17:7.
3) The token or mark of the covenant was circumcision Genesis 17:10, 11.
Now before we go any further let’s turn to Galatians 3:7, 8, 13, 14 and see a misunderstanding that arose in the New Testament church pertaining to this covenant.
Paul speaking to the Galatians church, partly over the uproar that Apostle Peter had initiated, made these specifications to all who live by faith. He said they were,
a. Children of Abraham
b. Through Abraham all nations blessed
just shall live by faith, the same faith as Abraham
d. The Law is not of faith
Hence healing was available through the faith of Abraham and should not have been denied for the woman with the spirit of infirmity, for Abraham’s covenant was perpetual because of his faith in the promised Messiah.
Now as we go on, the bible again speaks of a “certain woman” in Mark 5:25, not just any woman, for not every woman believes as this certain woman believed.
- Some of us will pay a price for our faith, its called obedience; it’s a necessary element in the Body of Christ.
Heb 5:8 (KJV)
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Because some of us are lacking in obedience, it appear that God has to take us the long way because of what he desires to invest into our lives and what he wants our lives to represent. But there is often so much resistance to the building for our own stability and maturity. God wants us to be men and women of power yet graceful so that his righteousness can be extended.
So in our stubbornness, God has to break off the obstacles that prevent us from having a clear vision of who God really is to us.
Bit by bit, He breaks away the kingdom of self that dams up our flow until we arrive at that “place” in God called “Himself”.
Others seem to get by with very few tribulations.
a) Notice that, there is Healing available for all, but all will not be healed.
b) There is a time for healing; example the angel troubled the water at the pool of Bethesda.
c) I believe when you are absent from a location you will miss your appointment with destiny, your healing, your day of visitation from the Lord.
d) I believe that in some peculiar way you can have a year of Jubilee.
This woman had been picked out from the foundation of the world for this definite occasion that she as a daughter of Abraham who was blessed of God, should likewise walk in those blessings. Therefore, the curse could be reversed.
I believe in this place called definite occasion we will have a revelation of God that will transcend any other.
Let’s look at the word “certain”.
Some of the meanings of the word “certain”;
· Sure, confident, assured, convinced, firm, positive and accurate.
This certain woman had an issue of blood for 12 years.
I remember when we traveled to India we met a woman with a similar issue problem. We had been to a little village and the people had come out to hear the gospel and to be delivered and made free from demons. We experience a great move of God that day with deliverances the like of which I had never seen. It was told to us that this woman would be visited by demons which would molest her and this they believed led to the blood issue problem. This precious woman, after the laying on of hands, was delivered from that demon to the glory of God.
Returning to the woman in Mark 5:25;
According to Leviticus 15:2, such an issue came as a consequence of sin.
No doubt she had been a wealthy woman; full of confidence and self assured. Her name would probably be mentioned at places of honor, she might have been in “Who is who” magazine
She could have been a friend of the Pharisees and Publicans, mostly because she gave generously at their religious occasions.
This certain woman, at the onset of her malady, she might have thought that her personal physician would threat these symptoms. No doubt she took the medicine of the day; “Take of Persian onions nine logs, boil them in wine, and give to her to drink: and say, Arise from thy flux”.
Then she noticed that her doctors could do nothing for her incurable disorder and in fact, the medicines only seem to aggravate the disorder and made her suffering more unbearable. She went from Wall Street to the Ghetto, for she began to follow the dictation of her purse as the cost of treating her disorder became ruinous.
She now was unable to command a living for herself and was forced to call on Public Aide; living in a one room apartment in a run down tenement house, unable to buy the needed accessories; the toiletries, etc.
But one day she heard about Jesus. And when she heard, she determinately declared that, “if I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole”. She made the declaration with expectancy.
There is a certain kind of declaration you make when you are at your extremity. Because man’s extremity is God’s possibility. God is always looking for possibilities to help man. She touched the hem of his garment, “And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague”. After 12 years God divinely intervened
The number 12 is interpreted as the number of divine government, apostolic fullness. Gen. 49:28; Ex.15:27; 24:4; 28:15-21; Matt.19:28; Luke 6:13; Rev. 12:1; Lev. 24:5. In Genesis 49:28, Israel blessed his sons by speaking words upon them which could not return to him void because he was speaking as God, for he was covenanted with God and at this time it had been just as if God himself had spoken. When he came to blessing Judah, he said, “Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thine hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.”
This woman had been set up for a blessing that was a manifestation of the glory of God in Jesus Christ. God had prepared her for such an occasion, such a time, an event to bring him glory and the living water which flowed from the throne of God was not about to be deterred.
“You have the grace for it”.
There are times when your father, as in the case of Isaac, is short sighted because he looked at the outer-man and would not give you the proper blessing.
But God is not shortsighted, and he will fill in the gap and cause the blessing to be given, for every knee shall bow and every knee confess that Jesus is Lord. That means every plan of God shall be fulfilled, even down to your life. The blessing God has for you will be spoken by your “father” and it will not return to him void.
