The Great American Fast IV - Gone with the Wind
TGAF - The Day is Over, but the Fast Goes On
A gentle breeze filled the Lamar Lighthouse Campgrounds Friday night, September 5. The participants had arrived, and The Great American Fast was underway. So many things had changed since TGAF I. A different sense of purpose blanketed the group as we came together. People gathered from across America, and the world to pray and seek the face of God once again.
At the Pennsylvania meeting, people from Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania came togther for the common cause. TGAF's first international visitor made the 18,000 mile trip from Orissa, India to be with us. What a blessing it was to meet new faces, and see some old. The meeting at Lamar PA was only a small part of what took place world-wide, and I want to thank each and every one of you who took part in one way or another.
As we met in Pennsylvania, others were seeking the presence of God in Washington, Oregon, California, Connecticut, Colorado, Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois . . . and the list goes on totaling 28 US states. Can we really expect God not to hear?
It is the powerful prayers of the people of God that has kept this country for 239 years, and if we are to survive as a nation, it will only be the prayers of God's people that will sustain us. For sure, TGAF is not the only prayer group in America. The Call2Fall group met this past June 29 across the nation represented by over 2 million Americans, PrayUSA also exists. Are you ready for this? PrayUSA is a prayer group started by America's elected leaders uniting citizens in prayer and action. Awake America is another group calling this nation back to prayer. All of these groups have a part with bringing the US to her knees before the Lord again.
Still, TGAF also has had a part, and those of you who banded with us have affected the history of your country as she still stands. I believe due to groups like TGAF and others throughout the nation that some of the following events have occurred:
Jonathan Cahn Addresses the President
- Jonathan Cahn preached a no-nonsense message at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer breakfast February 2, 2012
- Congressman Steven Palazzo of Mississippi thought that all of the US Senators and Representatives could use a little help in practicing, “fairness and honesty”. So he gave each the personal gift of a Holy Bible-All 535 of them! (http://www.refiningtruth.com/congressman-bibles-535-senators-representatives/). Or could it be a response to the prayers of Americans praying for their country and congressmen?
- Several prayer groups have recently started popping up on Capitol Hill (http://www.christianheadlines.com/news/prayer-groups-proliferate-on-capitol-hill-1228053.html)
- Awake America sponsors the Capitol Connection (http://www.christianheadlines.com/news/prayer-groups-proliferate-on-capitol-hill-1228053.html)
Prayer Makes a Difference
The US is not where she needs to be yet, but I wonder how different it might be if we as pray-ers on behalf of our fallen nation were to quit. There is still a thin thread of spiritual fervor spread throughout our country. God has called His remnant to our knees, and we must obey. We must continue to stand for our great nation by kneeling before the cross.
If God should give us another year, The Great American Fast V will be here before we know it. Now is the time to prepare. One has to be tremendously naive to think that one day a year given to prayer and fasting will accomplish much. We must constantly be on our collective face before God, pleading with Him to intervene.
A nation that has butchered her future to the tune of 50 million over the past 40 years is not worthy of God's blessings. The blood of our children cries from the ground as it drips from the abortionist's knife. Isaiah 1:15 gives us this information - " And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood."
A country that has turned to idols in the form of entertainment - be it Hollywood movies, TV, sports, concerts, or a hundred other things cannot expect the blessing of God.
Our land is steeped in gross immorality, both heterosexual as well as homosexual. Isaiah 59:2 tells us, " But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." Again, Psalm 66:18 says, " If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." The sins of the nation have deafened the ears of God. We, the remnant in America must cry out to be heard of God, or no one will be heard. That is why the Great American Fast has come to be.
We are told in James 5:16, " . . . The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." How much more will fervent prayer reach the ears of God if we as a remnant of born-again believers lift our heartfelt prayers to the Lord?
But that is only part of the verse. James 5:16 begins by saying "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed . . . ." I believe it is about time to confess not just our personal sins to the Lord, but also our national sins.
The King of Nineveh Sets the Example
The king of Nineveh in Jonah's day had the right idea. We read in Jonah 3:6-9, " For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?"
In the face of calamity, The king called for a national fast including the animals. Why? Perhaps the Lord would spare them if their hearts were right. If they would humble themselves, pray, seek God's face, and repent, maybe God would hear them and spare them.
Jonah 3:10 continues, " And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not."
Does the wicked city of Nineveh have a corner on revival? No, God's Word is true for all. God is not a respecter of persons (James 2:1). What is true for Nineveh is true for America. If America would humble herself, pray, seek the face of God, and repent, God would do the same. The problem is, we have not responded as Nineveh. We remain in our pride and arrogance. We cling to our self-sufficiency and self-righteousness.
We know that America will one day be destroyed. Prophecy is clear and accurate, but just when that will be, only God knows. As long as there is time, there is still opportunity for repentance. Better yet, as long as there is God, there is hope!
