My Personal Statement of Faith in Christ - My Personal Statement of Christian Faith

Updated on February 14, 2012

What I Believe and Why I Believe It

As a Christian, I would like to take some time to share my personal statement of faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is often very unpopular for Christians to talk about our faith, because it often comes across as intolerant, bigoted, or ignorant. Yet sharing our faith with others is a central tenent of the Bible. It is the Bible that holds the words of Life; God's plan and purpose to rescue us. Let us not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, instead let us proclaim it in our homes, our workplaces, neighborhoods, and internet communities. Jesus saves!

The Basics of Christianity

My statement of faith

Before I get into my personal story, I would like to take a few brief moments to go over the basics of what it means to be a Christian. Christianity is NOT about going to church, it is NOT about doing all the right things, it is NOT about being good enough to reach God or get into heaven, it is NOT about water baptism, and it is NOT about following a bunch of religious rules.

Christianity is not about behavior modification; it is about heart transformation. Let me break it down a little bit:

  • We have all sinned and fallen short of God's perfect righteousness
  • This sin separates us from God
  • The Bible teaches that the penalty for sin is eternal death
  • The Good News is that Jesus Christ, God's own Son, died in our place on the cross
  • We can accept the free gift of salvation by admitting our sin to Him, submitting our lives to His rule, and trusting in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord

It is actually pretty simple. Once we make this decision we know by faith that our sins have been forgiven and that instead of being eternally separated from God in death, we will be eternally with Him in everlasting life. If you want this for yourself, pray this prayer:

Pray This Prayer

God, I know that I am a sinner. I have done things that do not measure up to Your perfect holiness. God, right now I repent of my sins and I place my trust in You. I ask that You would become the Lord and Boss of my life. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, took my place of death on the cross. He was raised on the third day to prove that He had power over death. I accept this free gift of salvation based on faith in You and in Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus' Name, amen.

My Testimony

My Personal Statement of Christian Faith

My family attended church regularly from the time I was a baby. I was very young when I first accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. I must have been 5 years or younger. All I really remember was that I was in Sunday School and the class teacher asked us if anyone wanted to accept Christ, as she always did. I rose my hand and she lead a prayer much like the one above.

I was very young and didn't really have the ability to appreciate the whole magnitude of what had just happened to me. How could someone so young comprehend something so vast and magnificent as Almighty God dieing for my sins? How could I be expected to understand what it meant to let God rule my life?

It wasn't until several years later that I came to the realization of just how powerful this truth was. I was still young, maybe 12 or so, but by this point I could start to appreciate the deeper things in life. I remember being in a Sunday morning worship service when we sung a song that really drove home the sacrifice that Christ made. The song was called "Lamb of God" by Twila Paris.

Lamb of God

Your only Son

No sin to hide

But You have sent Him,

From Your side

To walk upon this guilty sod

And to become the Lamb of God

Your gift of Love

They crucified

They laughed and scorned Him as He died

The humble King

They named a fraud

And sacrificed the Lamb of God

Chorus:

Oh Lamb of God, Sweet lamb of God

I love the Holy Lamb of God

Oh wash me in His precious Blood

My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

I was so lost I should have died

But You have brought me to Your side

To be led by Your staff and rod

And to be call a lamb of God

Chorus

Oh wash me in His precious Blood

My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

Now, I had heard this song before, but this particular time, it hit me lick a brick!

God, the creator of the universe, the Warrior of Heaven, suffered and died in my place!

Wow!

My life changed after this defining moment. No longer did I go to church simply because that's what my family did. No longer was Christianity my parents religion. I began to take ownership of my walk with God. I grew to be passionate about God and His Kingdom.

Since then, there have been ups and downs in life and in my walk with God. Now, my commitment to Him is stronger than ever. I have grown in faith and maturity.

I accepted Christ at an early age, but it still took time to gain some wisdom and an understanding of the Word and grace of God. Just because I'm saved doesn't mean that I'm perfect or that I don't have trials and tests in my life. It does mean that I am forgiven and that Jesus is always there for me with "life in abundance, to the full, until it overflows" (John 10:10b).

  • James M Becher 5 years ago from South Florida

Thanks for sharing. I had a similar experience of accepting Christ at an early age and then making sure of it later in my teen years. Liked and pinned, and I'm featuring this my lenses: Are You Going To Heaven? and 7 Last Words of Jesus on the Cross and perhaps a few others as well.

  • Jeanette 5 years ago from Australia

Yes. I am constantly in awe that Jesus would die for someone like me. I am so grateful to be called His child.

  • Liz Mackay 5 years ago from United Kingdom

Yes, I became a christian at seven, a bit like you. I am now a local preacher. Good to hear your story.

Yes, I'm born again and my life has changed because my Lord is my life...

I hear what estreetsoccer says often(he is in the No section), it breaks my heart, I will pray for him

  • RuthieDenise 6 years ago

Yes, I have. I am glad that He loves me even when I don't deserve it.

  • darciefrench lm 6 years ago

Absolutely. Jesus is my hero, my guide, my eternal friend. I used to cry for Jesus- somehow, missed the whole point of his saving Grace. Now, I know Jesus as he truly is- love, and can say that he is my savior.

  • Liz Mackay 6 years ago from United Kingdom

Yes, I'm following Jesus. I've made some huge mistakes in my life, but he has always been with me and forgiven me. I'm now training to be a preacher in the Methodist church in England. This is a tremendous responsibility, but also wonderful.

  • Anthony Godinho 6 years ago from Ontario, Canada

Yes, after much rebellion, He was humble enough to be patient with me and I've been walking with the Lord for over 15 years now. It's a challenging walk, but one that is fulfilling. I know it's easy to blame God for the things that are happening in this world (I have), but the problem is not God, it's man who has taken things in his own hands that brings us in this current state. Thank God for His grace each day that carries us through! Ultimately, it all boils down to humility and acceptance of His free gift...thank you Lord! :)

No, I don't believe in that stuff

    Absolutely not!

I'm appalled by most Christians' attitudes and behavior. If you look at heat maps, Christian regions of the USA seem to feature with Pharmaceutical drug dependency, gun ownership, Obesity and many other ills of Society.

If Jesus has saved them - what the heck is going on?

  • estreetsoccer 6 years ago

I was raised Catholic but I now consider myself an agnostic atheist. There is just too much suffering in this world for me to believe there is an all powerful, all loving god looking over us.

Importance of how u live! Sermon!

If God gave u thirty days on this earth and told u to do a certain task and if u did it he would add 100 years of unimaginable happiness and riches but if u didn't do my task I would get 100 years of silence and darkness. Obviously were going to do the task no matter what it is. God does this in real life by offering the same thing but it lasts forever instead of 100 years. His task is to give your life for him and share his word to others. We so often get caught up in this world that we don't put God first but instead we put ourself first. We jeopardize our chance at ETERNAL life in heaven with God which is Said to be a place we can't even imagine as humans for our life eventually ends. We don't know for certain that just accepting Jesus and saying were Christians will get us into heaven and it certainly isn't worth risking what God has given us a chance at because of his love for us. Ask yourself if God is number 1 in your life and your main task that u worry about is praising God and speaking for him. If not, its time to change the way life is looked at and put God first. Think about it, eternity in heaven in the unimaginable kingdom of God or happiness that doesn't last forever on this earth. It's your decision.

It is good to see people share their faith here on Squidoo. I tend to be pretty shy about mine -- I know I shouldn't be but I usually won't get into it unless the subject happens to come up in the conversation.

Lovely, Lovely lens! I couldn't have said it better...indeed Christianity is not about behavior modification; it is about heart transformation...yes but behavior modification comes afterward, when you want to change and please God...we all fail, but God loves us unconditionally...we are so Blessed to know Him. My story is on several of my lenses.

Good to read about your testimony! I've been through quite a journey in my walk with the Lord - from being religious to rebellious and then saved by His grace. The journey continues through all the challenges and though at times I've felt like giving up just seeing what's happening in this dark world, His mercy and grace has kept me.

He has shown me much in this past 15 years and a lot goes against the grain of what we see today. I realize that no matter what, He is in control of my life and I need to shine that light wherever I go. Action speak louder than words - as it is written faith without works is dead, but it's all done through His spirit.

There is no formula to Christ, He just is and we need to humbly accept His work of the cross, it's got nothing to do with our works and I thank God for that! Be encouraged to press on and walk the walk of love. Blessings! :)
