Peter In The Bible - Apostle Peter the Man

Updated on May 8, 2013

Simon Peter is a model for all Christianity!

This site deals with the life of the Apostle Simon Barjona Peter (Rock). It is filled with links and resources to the life and the death of Saint Peter. Making Peter a model for Christians may sound extraordinary at first because the gospels relate many of the examples of Peter's faithlessness. He denied the LORD three times among other failings. Peter's weaknesses are overcome through faith in Jesus. This is a valuable life lesson for all Christians. None of us are perfect but hold on to your faith!

"Peter was son of Jona (or Jonah) , and his mother's name was never mentioned in the bible. His brother was Andrew, another of Jesus' twelve disciples. Peter's name used to be Simon (or Simeon) but one day Andrew brought Peter to Jesus and there Jesus appointed him his new name. "Thou shalt be called Cephas," an Aramaic surname whose Greek synonym is Petros, or Peter, meaning "a rock" or "stone." " (See Simon Peter from Conservapedia.com)

And He sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. ::: Now when He had left speaking, He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. ::: And Simon answering said unto Him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at Thy word I will let down the net. ::: And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. ::: And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. ::: When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. ::: For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: ::: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. PETER SEES THE GLORY OF JESUS. - Matthew 17:1-8 "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart, ::: And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. ::: And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with Him. ::: Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. ::: While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him. ::: And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. ::: And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. ::: And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only."

Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. ::: Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for Me and thee."

Story of Simon Peter from the Bible (continued)

  1. PETER GOES FISHING. - John 21:3-11 "Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. ::: But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. ::: Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. ::: And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. ::: Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. ::: And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. ::: As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. ::: Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. ::: Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken."

  2. PETER'S CONVERSATION WITH RISEN CHRIST. - John 21:15-23 "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. ::: He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. ::: He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. ::: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. ::: This spake He, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He saith unto him, Follow Me. ::: Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? ::: Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ::: Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou Me. ::: Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?"

Petros used to be my nicname!! The mention of Kepha denying, and then coming back to Christ must have been of very great comfort to early believers who were enduring troubles, as if saying even Peter denied Christ, came back and was received by Christ. You can too.

Thank you for your study of Peter; While I do that myself I find that after the Risen Jesus and on the day of Pentecost Peter became a different man; Transformation took place and he was the one to stand up and preach; 3000 or more received salvation after the pentecost took place. He was sanctified!

It is really hard to chose because there would be no Church without both of them.

Peter was given the keys to the Kingdom by preaching the first Gospel message. But, Paul started more Churches and wrote more of the New Testament.

So, that is a really hard one!

Thank you for the enlightment of the apostle Peter. I have been studying and writing about the apostle Paul. He is responcible for writing most of the New Testiment and writing most of the church doctoral bylaws and practices. I plan on studying more on Peter. I do not want to take any lite from the apostle Peter without knowing much about him. After all he was appointed by Jesus Christ. Blessings from God our Father, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Gave your lens a like, fave. and lensroll on some related lenses :) Hope to see you around (and hopefully brother?)

Peter is my favorite disciple because he seems to be the most relatable for us today; flawed, imperfect, but totally redeemable! 5stars
