Prophecy : Isaiah 4:1 - Seven Women and One Man

Updated on February 8, 2017

Introduction to the Prophecy

Isaiah, one of the major prophets prophesied about 740 B.C. when King Uzziah died (Isaiah 6:1). He prophesied in Judah for more than 40 years during a period of moral and political upheaval.

The Book of Isaiah presents more power of observation or discernment than any other book of the Old Testament.

When Jesus begins His ministry, He quotes from Isaiah 61:1-2 mentioned in Luke 4:18-19. "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."

PROPHECY - Isaiah 4:1

"And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, "We will eat our own bread and wear our own apparel Only let us be called by thy name To take away our reproach."

The day (future to Isaiah's prophecy c. 740 B.C.) will come when all the women (church, bride to be of Christ) will take hold (seize, gain possession, win, captivate charm, conduct, adopt, interpret, to operate) of one man (Jesus Christ) saying, "We will eat our own bread (own Manna, own words of life, own doctrine) and wear our own apparel (own garments of salvation or robe of righteousness); only let us be called by thy name (Jesus, Christian) to take away our reproach (shame, scorn, disgrace).

The prophesy foretells the time when all the churches will call themselves Christians in name only because they will preach their own doctrines and explain their own interpretation of righteousness ignoring the commandments of God. They believe that in calling themselves Christians will take away their shame.

John 4:23-24

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 8:47

He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.

Symbolism in Scripture

In That Day

What will happen in days to come. Isaiah prophesied in 740 B.C. about what will happen in the New Testament about the preaching of Jesus Christ. Jesus appeared more than three thousand years later.

A sacred number among the Jews, also indicating perfection or completion. It was used very often in a symbolic manner for the whole of a thing.

The number seven entered very largely into the religious life and observances of the Jews.

Seven spirits (Rev.1:4); Seven times wash in Jordan (2 Kings 5:10,14);

Seven stars (Rev. 1:16; 2:1; 3:1); Seven years (Gen. 29:18);

Seven years of famine (2 Sam. 24:13).

Seven women would signify a complete number of churches.

Woman - Church

The Lamb's wife signifies the Church of Jesus Christ.

Lamb's wife (Rev. 21:9); Jerusalem as bride for the Lamb (Rev. 21:2)

Worship at Jerusalem (John 4:21); Word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isa. 2:3; Mic. 4:2).

The women mentioned in this verse would mean all the Christian Churches. The seven churches mentioned by John in Revelation 1 and 2 signify

(1) the Active Church, sound in doctrine but deficient in love;

(2) the Poor but Rich Church;

(3) the Heretical Church;

(4) the Church of the False Prophetess;

(5) the Dying Church;

(6) the Loyal Church (Re.3:8 - thou has a little strength);

(7) the Lukewarm, Self-Satisfied Church.

Man - Jesus, Son of Man

Son of man hath not where to lay (Mat. 8:20; Luke 9:58)

Son of man hath power on earth to (Mat. 9:6; Mark 2:10; Luke 5:24)

Son of man is Lord even of Sabbath (Mat. 12:8; Mark 2:28)

Jesus is referred to as the Son of Man.

Bread - Words of God

Jesus ... the bread of life (John 6:32)

Bread of deceit (Pro. 20:17)

Leaven of bread (Mat. 16:12) of Pharisees and Sadducees

True bread from heaven (John 6:32-33) words of God

When the women eat their own bread, they will not preach the truth for Jesus said He is the bread of life (John 6:35, 40).

Words of God

Apparel - White Raiment, heavenly Garment

Garments of salvation (Isa. 61:10; Ps. 132:16)

Robe of Righteousness (Job 29:14)

White raiment (Re. 3:5) He that overcometh, ... clothed in white raiment.

Four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment (Re. 4:4)

Clothed with white robes (Re.7:9) Instead of preaching righteousness they are not clothed in garments of salvation.

Isaiah 4:1 Commentaries: For seven women will take hold of ... in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our ... in the male sex, that seven women shall be glad to apply to a single man for ...

Seven Women shall take hold of One man - Biblical Polygamy

Seven Women shall take hold of One Man - Biblical Polygamy"And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We willeat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name,

      The personal name of YAHUAH was changed 113 times to Adun/Adonai in the Masoretic Text from the original Hebrew manuscripts.

      Adonai then translated to Lord (baal). Means husband, owner, false god, or diety. Master is the most accurate English translation.

      The word is master/Adun in HEBREW...

      Lord comes from the old English spelling of "Lard" which comes from "Lar/Larth Lares," Estruscan and Roman deities associated with Sun-worship. The Greek word "Kurios" was originally a title for the Greek and Roman Sun-deity "Helios" and was called "The Kurios (Lord aka Baal H1167-8) of Heaven and Earth." The Hindu god "Krishna" is also known as "Lord." The title "Lord" was eventually applied to all heathen deities. Most Bible translators continue to use the title "Lord" as a substitute name for YaHUaH.

      Holy, Holiday, Holy Spirit are all interrelated and come from the Hindu religion. The words are derived from "Holi" which is the great Hindu spring festival held in honor of "Krishna," the Hindu Sun-god.

      Sunday was the day set aside in the Mithra (Roman) cult as its official day to assemble together to worship its Sun-deity. Roman Emperor Constantine legislated Sun-day as a day of rest dedicated to the Greek and Roman Sun-god, Helios. Constantine worshipped "Christos Helios" which means "Christ-The-True-Sun." The Roman Catholic Church venerates Sun-day as its Sabbath even today, and has handed it down to Christianity.

      * Shabbat/Sabbath is the Hebrew word pertaining to YaHUaH's 7th day of rest. It is the 4th Commandment (Exodus 29:8-11), and a sign for all Israelite generations (descendants) found in Exodus 30:13 & 17, Ezekiel 20:12 & 20.

      Angel/Angels from Greek Word "Angelos" meaning "messenger/messengers. Angelos was the name of a Greek god associated with Sun-worship.

      * Malakh/Malakhim from Hebrew word meaning "messenger/messengers;" has no association with Sun-worship.

      deceiving their own wicked hearts into believing that

      they can, in their pride and rebellion, call something

      dark, evil, and perverted... something good and pure

      and set-apart ...

      woe to those who call evil good and good evil...

      for real.

      Easter originated from the pagan festival in honor of "Eostre," a Teutonic-Germanic dawn, spring and fertility-goddess. "Eostre" comes from the Greek dawn, spring and fertility-goddess named "Eos." This same dawn, spring and fertility-goddess "Eostre" was also known as "Eastre" and "Ostara," and dates back to the ancient Babylonian/Canaanite cultures where she was known as "Astarte" (Ashtaroth/Ashtoreh poles). In Ninevah, this same goddess was known as "Ishtar." The idolatrous worship of this goddess revered as the "Queen of Heaven" is mentioned in the Hebrew Scriptures in Jeremiah 7:18. The worship of this "goddess" spread throughout all the cultures of the world. She is found in India as the Hindu dawn-goddess "Usha/Ushas," and in Western cultures and religions of today, including Christianity, called "Easter."

      from this whore we have many different queens of heaven... la virgen de guadalupe.... the lady of fatima, and every other madonna and child combination that combines a mother, child and sun-god father trinity.....

      God, Gad, Gud are all interrelated names. God was a common Teutonic-Germanic word that was applied to superhuman beings of heathen mythologies. Later the word "God" was adopted by Christianity as the generic name for the Supreme Being. It has become the most popular translation for the Hebrew word "Aluahym." As a result, most of Christendom believes that the Name for Aluahym is "God" and does not know that the personal Name of the Father is YHUH. Gad/god was the Babylonian/Canaanite/

      Syrian deity of "Good Luck" or "Fortune," also called "Meni," the god of "Destiny" who was regarded as the "Lord Moon." The city of Gad was named after this deity. Gad was identified with Jupiter, the Sun-deity, and applied to Nimrod whose general character was that of a Sun-god or Sun-divinity. Gud was the Anglo-Saxon name for "good god" vs. an "evil god."

      Unger's Bible Dictionary, Page 412, states that the word EL is a Canaanite word meaning "God", or "Devil". (Alaph Lamad spells Al, not El.)

      Unger's Bible Dictionary, Page 412, states that the word EL is a Canaanite word meaning "God", or "Devil".

      The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, Volume 1, Page 817, under DEMONOLOGY, says: The word ELOHIYM (plural from of EL) means "demons" or "gods". (H430 Mighty One's).

      Yes ..there most definitely is something about the name

      jesus....... and its all about that sun-god-worship..

      Jesus comes from the Greek name "Iesous/IHSOUS" and Latin "Iesus." "Iesous" is adapted from the name of the Greek goddess of healing "Iesos/Iaso," the daughter of Apollo, the Sun-deity. This goddess was linked to the Egyptian "Isis" who had a son named "Isu." During the era of Roman Emperors, there were numerous worshippers of "Isis." Many converted to Constantine's religion that mixed paganism with the Messianic faith that eventually became the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church continues to use the sunburst emblem known as the "Eucharist" which to this day contains the Greek letters "IHS" for "IHSOUS." Further research reveals that the name "Jesus" is also linked to the Greek Sun-god "Zeus" who was the Greek interpretation of the Egyptian Sun-god "Amen-Ra."

      Bible comes from the Greek word "Biblos/

      Biblion" which refers to the Egyptian papyrus reed which the Greeks called "Byblos/Byblus." The papyrus reed was shipped from the Egyptian City "Biblis" named after its female Sun-deity. It was imported through the Greek seaport called "Byblos" named after its Phoenician Sun-deity "Byblis/Byblos" believed to be the granddaughter of Apollo, the Greek Sun-diety.

      NOTE: The word "Bible" was first used in 400 AD

      * "The Scripture" can be used without any reference to pagan worship.

      Grace comes from the Greek word "charis," and the Latin word "gratia." "Charis" was a Greek deity, the wife of Vulcan. From the goddess "Charis" comes the Greek "Charities," three female deities, daughters of "Helios," the Greek/Roman high Sun-god.

      * Chesed or favor are better words both in Hebrew and English, and can be used without reference to paganism.

      Amen, The word A-men, is usually associated with the closing of prayer. Many people (not knowing better) will usually pronounce this word as "A" sounding like the word "Ape" plus "men." This is error. Among the gods who were known to the Egyptians in very early times were "Amen" and his consort Ament. Their names are found in the Pyramid Texts, e.g., Unas, line 558, where they are mentioned immediately after the pair of gods Nau and Nen, and in connection with the twin Lion-gods Shu and Tefnut, who are described as the two gods who made their own bodies, and with the goddess Temt, the female counterpart of Tem.

      the lord god??? i see it all the time...

      a mouthful of pagan names ....thats all this is....truth..

      Baal, Bel, Babylon are all interrelated words pertaining to chief Sun-deities of pagan Sun-worship. Baal means to "shine," also used for "Lord/husband." Bel is another name for Satan. Babylon was the ancient Canaanite city where Sun-worship began and from there spread to all ancient cultures of the world and remains in the world today as the counterfeit religion of Satan under the guise of the Roman Catholic Church and its off-shoot religions (daughters) including Christianity and Islam.

      Obelisks, Spires, Steeple, Church Towers all come from the pagan worship practices of Babylon and Egypt called Sun-pillars. These are objects are shaped in various tall aspiring shapes appearing to reach up to the heavens. Ancient Babylon built Sun-pillars that held phallic (male genitalia) symbolism incorporated into their pagan worship. Egypt also built obelisks as part of their Sun-worship. Exodus 23:24 states that YHUH commanded the Israelites to break down these pillars. An obelisk or Sun-pillar still stands at the entrance of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome which was erected as a memorial to the merger of Sun-worship and the Messianic faith to become Rome's "universal" church or "universal worldwide religion."

      People may believe in the same church but their beliefs are rather different. Let us say there are 30 students in a class. You have the same teacher, read the same texts and come out different results. Just being in the same church does not qualify you entrance to heaven.

      The prophecy in the book of isaia about seven churches tells us that the are only seven churches in the world that goes with the same teachings of the apostles of Jesus christ and everything they do is the same in terms of batisim and many more..e.g God commanded Noah to build one large boad in order for those who believe for the coming of storm should be saved..Its the same to seven church in the world ,the one who belive in God will be save if he or she is the memmber of those particular churches.

      Jeremiah 31:22

      A woman shall compass a man.

      A woman (church) shall compass a man. A true church will

      encompass a man (Jesus). The true church will do everything what Jesus taught.

      The other verses quoted are irrelevant to the topic.

      hey, ruling out literal meaning is disastrous. have you considered the chain of events in these scriptures Luke 23:27-30, Dan.11:37, Jer.31:22. do not over look 2 Thessalonians 2:7. just try to google, "the global war against baby girls." the desire of women in Daniel could be got from Genesis 3:16. the devil has greatly attacked the marriage institution and we can't over look the literal meaning of this verse. 'MY PEOPLE DIE FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.'Please let them know. regards.

      I'm confused. In NLT it says In that day so FEW MEN will be left that seven women will fight for EACH MAN. So it doesn't seem to be talking about ONE MAN. Hence I think it seems to be a prophecy about a true event that will happen. I was just wondering whether it was a historical event that actually happened. I believe besides symbolism which might sometimes test the intellectually challenged(like me), the bible's prophecies are written in literal sense and is true and uncomplicated.

      John wrote the Revelations 2000 years ago and it was for the people of that time. Events evolve gradually from that time and it is not static. The revelations were made by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and is relevant to us today.

      The seven women in this sense are literal, the taking away of their disgrace makes that obvious. Reading my Tanakh, the Jewish Bible minus the old testament, makes it absolutely clear that the days of Gog of Magog are today, read the context in Ezekiel, it's today, not 1000 years away, today. That gives revelations away as unreliable.

      Your interpretation of this scripture is wrong. You use it to passify women. Refer to verses 16-26. God would punish the women for their wickedness and the men will fall by the sword, their will be few to marry and 7 will want to mary one just to take away their disgrace.

      did it occur to you that perhaps what we read in Isaiah is LITERAL? That things will be so desparate that 7 women come to one man and do not ask for even food or clothing from him? Your interpretation leaves out the entire part before which leads up to it. Shameful.

      Thank you for your comments.

      I have also read that Jesus died on a Wednesday and that makes it completely three days and three nights when He arose. Jesus kept the 7th day Sabbath when He was alive. Passover day (14th day of Nissan may occur on any day of the week.

      The Jews never worshipped on Sunday and never will. Jesus was born a Jew and remained a Jew all His life. It was Emperor Constantine who enacted the law changing the day to Sunday in 321 A.D.

      May God bless you.

      Thank you sincerely also for understanding the 7th Day as being sanctified. From what I can tell, this Day is also sanctified according to when Christ actually rose from the dead. If His Spirit was given up at the 9th hour (3:00 p.m.) on Wednesday, then exactly 3 days and 3 nights later would not have been Sunday.

      I anxiously await your response to this.

      The prophecy in Isaiah did not say that the man wanted to marry the 7 women (churches), but the 7 women (signifying all) took hold of the Lamb of God holding Him tight, and not letting Him go, doing their own thing.

      The Lamb only wanted one righteous wife - Rev. 21:2 - "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem (church), coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

      What is wrong with the churches today? They are only pretenders to be the bride of God. They disobeyed the commandments of God in the 10 Commandments. They keep the doctrines of pagans in their worship of Christmas, Easter and Halloween (First 3 commandments).

      They disobeyed also the 4th commandment in that they changed the seventh day of rest into the first day, Sunday. There is no commandment to change the day, Saturday, the seventh day of the week into Sunday, the first day of the week. Look at your calender and you will see that Sunday is the first day of the week.

      God blessed the seventh day of the week in the very beginning of the Bible. In Genesis 2:2, God resteth, (vs. 3) and God blessed the sevent day and sanctified it.

      Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God blessed and sanctified the seventh day, Sunday.

      The churches followed the Roman Catholic Church in the change by Emperor Constantine in 321 A..D. The term "the Lord's Day" did not appear in any civil legislation concerning Sunday until the year 387 A.D., more than two generations after the first law. ("Sunday", Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge, Vol. XI, p. 147).

      James 2:10

      "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

      Most of the churches have broken the first 4 of the 10 Commandments of God.

      Food for your thoughts. God bless.

      Another reason why there seems to be more women 7 to 1 is most of the men will be killed off in warfare. It will take awhile in the millenium for enough new boys to be born then to bring the ratio up to be more even. probably about twenty years for the ages to be closer together.

      Thank you for your comments about my boldness in recognizing the religious state of the church. As Christians, we must be bold to uphold the truth and not hide anything. Truth will always come out in the end. You cannot gild the lily.

      God is surely but steadfastly restoring his holy bride for himself as we await his second coming. Unless the bride is ready, the Lamb cannot claim the bride. Christ must have His perfect bride full of truth and righteousness for the Lord is upright and righteous.

      You should also read the sequel to this hub.

      Prophecy: Isaiah 4:1: Seven Women and One Man is fulfilled in Revelation 2 and 3. It is my first hub, and the second is Church of Ephesus which has also been published. There are seven churches mentioned in Revelations 2 and 3.

      May the Lord God continue to open your eyes to the boldness of His truth.

      Thanks for your comments on my boldness in recognizing the religious state of the church.

      The Lord will definitely restore His holy bride to Himself. Christians now recognize that they must worship God in spirit and in truth. The Church cannot just gild the lily. Truth will be out.

      Unless the Church is perfect in all ways, the Lamb of God cannot claim an imperfect bride. We see and hear of churches changing their ways for the better. The good churches will be better and the bad ones will get worse.

      Sixty Methodist churches have changed worshipping God from Sunday back to Saturday as the original day of Sabbath as recorded in Genesis 2:2-3. "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it;"

      The United Church of Canada has split because of gay marriages and the Anglican Church is threatening to split also because of ordination of gay ministers. The Seventh Day Adventist Church has split because of the Sabbath Day. No where else in the Bible is there any verse which says that God has blessed Sunday as a day of rest.

      Read the sequel to Prophecy: Isaiah 4:1 and I would like to know your comments!

      Prophecy: Church of Ephesus

      May the Lord continue to lead and guide you to the truth of all matters.

      I appreciate your boldness in recognizing the religious state of the church :having the form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.I pray the LORD restore his holy bride to himself as we await his second coming.
