Setting Intentions

Updated on February 26, 2017

When you want something to happen in your life, new job, a move, getting fit or finding someone you cannot just sit and wait for it to happen. So many times in people's lives they believe that just wanting something will make it come true. Although there is some truth to wanting something enough to will it to happen, but just sitting around wishing you had a better job is not going to get you that job. While watching your favorite evening TV show thinking about how you wish you could lose weight is not going to make those pounds melt off over night.

You can make the change that is needed to make your life better, move in the direction you want it to go and become the person you so want to become. Too many sit and just want, this is not what setting intentions is about. You have to envision the changes which need to occur. See yourself making them, discovering who you are in the process and then following through with the changes to make sure they stay and you continue on your course to achieving your goals. If you want to be a supervisor within a certain amount of time, think about what that will look like, see yourself becoming that supervisor. Set goals, learn what your supervisors are looking for in their future management people. Anticipate your next move, and what needs to happen to not only get you to that move but through it. Calmly sit with yourself and begin to get your body, mind and soul to believe in the direction you are going and the path you have chosen.

As you begin to visualize this event or goal in front of you and have asked for guidance begin to meditate. Find a way to dedicate as much time to sitting still and meditating. I start with a prayer when I meditate, then move into feeling my root chakra firming planting itself into the ground below me, firmly planting me so that I feel stable. Personally this is the most favorite part of my meditation. Becoming so grounded to where I am at allows me to know I can be there but want to be in another place to move forward. Doing this activity always reminds me of a hymnal, I Shall Not Be Moved. Although the ended desire is to be moved, being firmly grounded and not allowing the wind to shift you from one direction to the other is key in creating the mvement we want. While meditating focus on the third eye chakra as well as the crown chakra.

When setting your intentions on a goal or task think of that during meditation instead of sitting quietly for the entire time. During meditation begin to invision what it would be like to move, do well on the interview for the job you want or start a new business. Think this activity and the movement surrounding reaching that goal. Even if you think of the small stuff this will, I believe help bring your goal into reality. Just thinking of the outcome sometimes does not tell you how to get there, just the ending. Just like the books we read and the movies and shows we watch there needs to be a way to the end. This is not to say that how you see it will come through without a hitch. We all experience bumps in the road. But seeing those bumps first and or thinking of them can help you guide yourself though them and remove them from reaching your goal. For the last part of your mediation begin to aumm. This can be done as you feel comfortable. Some people are louder than others. Some will just hum.

Remember some of our wants, desires and wishes do not come as quickly or easily as we want. Sometimes it takes a while for it to come through. Divine will is present and there could be a lesson that needs to be learned before you move to the next adventure in your life, there could be some boulders which have not be removed and are in your way of progress. Also, we may want something and it is just not the right time for it to happen. Keep your goals and outcomes on your mind and stay focused. If there are boulders you will find them and crack them into small pebbles. If there is a lesson to learn then you will go through and and learn what is needed or if it just time you are waiting on then do not give up. Live in the present and keep your focus on where you want to be next, so that when the time comes you are prepared for the next step in your life.
