sowing the word pt.3

Updated on July 29, 2010

Choking God's intention

With the coming of the second Adam, the enemy’s power over the people of God has been broken, nevertheless, he zealously insist and engage them in wiles that seemingly delay or impede their potential in Christ Jesus. The cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches are strategies in his deceptive schemes that he uses to place his futile attacks on the kingdom of God.

Why are the attacks futile? Because in 2Timothy2:19 say “The Lord knoweth them that are his”. God will preserve them that are His from making shipwreck of their faith. He will always provide a way of escape for his children and He sets up creation that all things work together for good to them that love him, to those who are called according to his purpose.

The victory at the cross was complete for Christ Jesus took away the enemy’s power to accuse you of sin. I like the way the KJV says it, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it”.

Now all God is looking for is your faithfulness even as a faithful wife who loves and honors her husband.

We must know that as a child of God, his faithfulness doesn’t depend on yours for when you are unfaithful God remains faithful. But God will lovingly chastise his children and should in case you are guilty and you are not grieved in your spirit neither being chastised then I would strongly suggest that you check out you “birth certificate”.

The text reads,

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful”.

What does choke implies?

Well it is a “separation” of the head from the body. In other words, the head is not able to communicate with the body due to an obstruction or congestion between the head and the body. Choke means to strangle or to suffocate. The head has information but the body cannot receive it.

God, as the head, has some things he would like to communicate but the Church which is his body has very little or no reception.

The Church could be one as well as many. That means you or you and your wife or you and the members of the congregation to which you join yourself.

Choke as used in Matthew 13 comes from the Greek word “pnigo” and it means to strangle,

1a) of thorns crowding out the seed in the field and hindering its growth

2) to wring one’s neck, throttle

Another way of putting Matthew 13:22, is that the (distraction) cares of this life and the longing for money makes that individual unable to give the word direction.

One reason why believers are living failed and defeated lives today is because the word that they have been given is in need of direction.

God gave you sixty-six books so that you could be a “traffic cop” of those books. The “traffic” is the word which is in need of direction.

The “traffic cop” has the power and authority given him because he represents the law. But how many of us have ever arrived at an intersection where the lights were out and a squad car with a fat policeman enjoying the citizen’s tax sitting in the cut when he should be out in the intersection directing traffic?

And such are some of us, lazy, fat with the power and authority but we refuse to give direction to the word.

Then again, we have all seen people who are able to quote the bible from Genesis to Revelation but somehow the biblical principles don’t seem to be working in their lives.

They know every scripture about wealth yet they are not wealthy. They can find every healing scripture, yet they are not healed.

So by and by, you are tempted to reason in your heart and remark, “physician heal thyself” but wisdom says, no. Wisdom says that the enemy is trying to make us unfocused.

Judging the Intention of God

The above example may have been your final test before promotion but because you judge not the person but the intention of God, you have failed the test.

God did not want you,

  1. to pass judgment
  2. to make that your care(or be distracted/merimna)

To be distracted is to take unto yourself responsibility for which you have no grace (Lk.10:40,41/ careful/ merimnao/ anxious.

In Luke 10:41, Jesus asked Martha, why was she so anxious, troubled, agitated, confused and preoccupied about things that didn’t matter?

And because of your actions; anxiety and the distraction that is out of the will of God, you will end up getting a zero on your report card.

God says; cast all your cares upon me for I careth for you. He says, my yolk is easy and my burden light.

But you in your own wisdom of making everyone’s care your own, you reason and say, “I have to help Sister Susie, she is a fine woman, I know she needs a man’s help”.

Six months later you are in divorce court for Sister Susie did not need your help. Sister Susie was bent on “shoplifting someone’s husband.

So God would say to you, “Let me handle all your care! He would say, Learn of me and in me you will find rest.

Wait on God’s timing

It was God’s intention that the man whose sight was returned by Jesus in John 9, waited until the ordained time.

Another meaning of the word ordained is intended or predestined.

In this instance Jesus had healed a blind man and his disciple’s queried into whose sin was it why the man was blind. Jesus told them that neither the parents nor the man but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

The scoffers tried their best to deny God the glory for this miracle but the healed man said, “Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Cares in Paul’s ministry 2 Cor. 11:28, 12:9,10,

Listen, I believe the apostle Paul became so consumed with the work of the ministry that it affected his health because the enemy knew that Paul had been given a task of bringing the Gospel to the Gentiles and with that God had given unto him the gifts of the Spirit, especially the revelation gifts.

Remember Paul was a Benjamite. Benjamin was the last of the 12 sons of Jacob. His mother had hoped that he would be called “son of my sorrow” but the father changed his name and said, he shall be called Benjamin, “son of my right hand”.

Now the hand in scripture is very important. It is used for service, ministry and worship, but the right hand is used for blessing (Matt.25:33).

Blessing is directional.

The Lord Jesus had raised Paul to give direction to His Church under the power of the Holy Spirit.

Remember how the Lord had told Ananias, interpreted “the Lord has dealt graciously” in Acts 9 that Paul was a chosen vessel to bear his name before the Gentiles, kings and to the Israelites.

In chapter 9:16, the Lord says, “For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

Paul started from Jerusalem blinded by anger, rage and resentment bent on doing what he thought to be his godly purpose. On his way, nearing Damascus (the sack of blood) not only was he spiritual blind but he became physically blinded as well.

Notice that he was going to the sack of blood unbeknown to be washed in the blood, by the grace of God.

And so is the case with some of us that God has to take us to a place where we become blinded by the light for there is too much of the desires of the world within us, to choke us rendering us unfruitful.

We believe we are doing right in our work for the ministry having 6 auxiliaries and can’t wait for the pastor to form a new auxiliary so that we may be the first to join while in your own life, its emptiness. We think God’s neck is on a chopping block and the old world is depending on us to save the day.

God desires relationship and not a life overburdened with care!

The victory is already yours

Because the victory is already ours through Christ Jesus God doesn’t need our concern. To worry and to fret and to have a longing for money will hinder your possibilities.

It will make you impotent in the things of God.

Can you imagine getting married and when the honeymoon night comes you are powerless because of anxiety?

Don’t let the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches makes you impotent!

Which would you rather have, God or money? When the smoke clears that question still remains and it’s your choice.

The word of God is not Preoccupied

God’s says in Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”.

Listen to what God is saying;

a. When He sends his word forth he always gets a return.

b. His word becomes an investment into the earth realm

c. His word was specifically design to meet a need or God’s desired intention

d. His word always returns 100 fold because it accomplish that which he please

e. His word holds up the heavens and earth so for one jot of any of his word to fail would mean a total collapse of creation.

Man should never allow his finite mind to compete with God’s infinite wisdom.

In other words we should never seek to assume God’s intention.

When we do this we make asses out of everyone involved, families torn apart and religious assemblies fragmented.

Man should always stay with the knowledge that God has given him and not try to aggrandize to your own glory. God says that I have revealed to the sons of man such as is needed (Deut.29:29).

What type of fruit

Gal.5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law”.

God wants fruitfulness and as long as you are distracted you will never come to your full potential in God.

It’s very displeasing when you pick up an apple and prepare to eat only to find that it is spoiled down to the chore? What would you do with that apple?

Today God is giving you a second chance.
