The coolest place: Heaven

Updated on September 8, 2014

Heaven the most wonderful place to be

The kingdom of heaven starts here on earth. I call it the coolest place but I do not mean this by temperature but in the sense that people mean it is great or tremendous. This is not a place to miss out on. It should be your eternal destiny when this life has finished, as it does at some time for us all. Don't let anyone keep you from finding heaven. Set your heart to find Jesus and you will find heaven too.

Seraph with six wings is my own work.

Planning ahead

Forever, the kingdom of heaven

If you are a christian you should be paying a whole lot of attention to heaven. This life is just the journey to the next, it is important but it isn't your goal. If in this life you had a trusted friend go to another country to buy you a property, you would be most excited about it. You would get brochures to see what it looked like and what all the amenities were. Then the day would come to make the journey to this new property. You would be taken up with what it was going to be like when you arrived, you wouldn't be thinking about what sort of plane you were flying in, or the food you ate on the journey, no you would be thinking of arriving at your new property, That's how it should be with heaven. It should be your main concern to get there. Of course this life is important and has to be lived well. We need to work to provide for our families, but our goal should be always in mind.

Stretching the imagination

If you want a picture of heaven look at Revelation 21 and 22 in the Bible. It's the last book in the Bible and these are the last two chapters. John was a disciple of Jesus and at this time was probably the last of the original twelve disciples to be alive. He was in his nineties. He speaks of precious stones and pearls and gold. Heaven is actually beyond all this but these are the best things John can find to describe heaven. He speaks of a river down the centre of the street and of the tree of life with it's fruits ripening every month. He is taking superlatives to describe the indescribable. But we soon discover the important fact, God and the Lamb (Jesus) are there and they are the source of light for the place.

Praising God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We will have work to do in heaven. It will be the most rewarding, fulfilling and wonderful thing we have ever done. It will be praising God. If you want a little fortaste of heaven here spend your time praising God. Not just in church with other christians but, more importantly every day when you can find time to be alone with God. God has promised to come close to us if we make a sincere effort to get close to Him. But we can only come to God through Jesus. By his death on the cross Jesus has made the only way back to God for those who will turn away from their sin and put their trust in him. In John 14 verse 6 Jesus says, " I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus is the only way to heaven. Heaven has nothing evil in it. We have to be made pure by Jesus before we can go in.

If we are going to be in heaven praising God we need to get in some practice here. I know about practice. I have been a piano and violin teacher for many years and I know that the pupils who make progress are the ones who practice. It is the same with prayer and praising God, we need to practice. Our first attempts will be faltering and clumsy, but if we persevere we will learn to get near to God and sometimes words will not even be necessary as we praise Him in spirit and in truth. Heaven will be fantastic, don't miss out.

Worship song

The alternative

Wings and things

There was once a group of caterpillars listening to an old preacher caterpillar. Another caterpillar came to join the group. One of the caterpillars already in the group turned to him and said,"Aw, you don't want to listen to him. He says one day we're all going to have wings!!"

Perhaps you should listen to a preacher too. I don't think we are going to have wings as we are not angels, but you do have the chance of heaven if you put your trust in Jesus.

Do you think heaven is "pie in the sky when you die?"

Yes, I believe Heaven is a wonderful place where we will see our loved ones who have gone before us. I'm just wondering what we'll eat at the Marriage Super of the Lamb. Do you suppose it will be Lamb? - Very nice lens, I feel blessed.
