The Miracle of the Resurrection Plant
A Lesson for Sunday School During Lent and Easter
I have taught Sunday school over 15 years and the lessons building up during Lent and heading into Easter are my favorite ones to teach. A few years ago in Arizona I found a plant in the local gift shop called the Resurrection Plant.
My curiosity got the best of me and I looked at the dead plant in the bag and although the science side of my brain said yes, I asked the clerk "Does this really work?" She smiled brightly and exclaimed "Oh yes, it's great fun, the kids love watching the plant come to life."
She had me sold, I had seen video of the desert turning green in just a few hours after a rain and didn't know how it happened. It makes sense that a plant like the Rose of Jericho would be sold in a desert state like Arizona, and I had just come from the desert where all the plants "seemed" dead.
So I purchased a plant and brought it to my Sunday School class. For three years I used the same Resurrection Plant as an example of how Christ died and came to life on Easter. My kids were enthralled and captivated and it's one of their favorite memories of church.
