The Word Of God A Cure For Christian Depression

Updated on May 10, 2015

The Word of God is Our Freedom

The word of God is a great source for every believer. Here we find Gods will for our lifes.

Unfortunately many Christians miss the power and strength that lies within believing Gods word.

Jesus told His disciples that the word can set them free. Gods word is no magic, it is God himself, talking to us in a living relationship. The word can cure anything, it is the solution for sickness and disease, and also healing from emotional problems like Christian Depression.

Jesus - the Healer

The Bible describes Jesus as the great healer. In the Gospels we see many examples of Jesus meeting people's needs of healing. They could be lame, deaf, blind or suffer under demonic influence and nothing stopped them from being healed once they've met Jesus. He even raised the dead!

The Bible also tells us that Jesus is same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebr. 13:8) He does not change. He heals people today as well as in biblical time. What has changed though is maybe the map of sicknesses. The word "depression" or "being free from depression" does not exist in the Bible, and there is therefore no obvious reference to be healed from the disease we call depression.

On the other hand; the Bible is talking a lot about worry, anxiety, or shall we say not to worry and not to be anxious. It describes how we do not need to fear, and if we are saved there is no need to worry about death.

At a closer look, the Bible is actually filled with scriptures that can help and heal the one who suffers from Christian depression of any kind. With one word we could call it renewing of our mind. Being under the yoke of Christian depression is to be bound by thoughts and feelings that are very negative instead of experience the freedom we have in Jesus. We should not diminish the effect of negative thinking. It can totally destroy some ones life and even affect their physical well being. But it can be helped by replacing those depressive thoughts by the powerful word of God. To dwell on the truth that God has for us instead of constantly think negative. That's might sound easy, but of course it is a fight. It takes a decision; it takes time and faith in the word of God. Sometimes also support from our fellow Christians.

To meditate on the word is a powerful tool for the one who wants to see supernatural results in their life. It is a very effective way of being strong in every area in our lives, and by default also extremely beneficial for the one who wants to beat their Christian depression. God is working through His word - Jesus himself said that the word, the truth, will set us free! John 8:32

Jesus is the same today. He loves each and everyone and wants to help and heal everyone that suffers. He does not pick and chose whom He will help. He has already won the victory over every kind of evil; our response to that should be to reach out in faith and start acting on the word of God.

Jesus healing a woman with blood issue

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

(Mat 9:18-22 KJV)
