Walt Disney's Ghost and Death and Is Disneyland Haunted?

Updated on October 5, 2014

Disneyland Hauntings

Several ghosts are said to reside in Disneyland. Find out about these spirits along with a very interesting claim about Walt Disney's body.

Even though the percentage of deaths in Disneyland is quite low, there are still those who seem to have stayed on in the Happiest Place on Earth after their deaths.

Curious? Read on to find out more!

Disneyland Ghosts

Several locations in Disneyland are said to be home to ghosts. There's a female who is affectionately known as "Disco Debbie" in Space Mountain, a little boy in The Haunted Mansion and Dolly, who was killed on the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Other haunted locations include Tom Sawyer's Island, The Christmas Shop and the stockroom of Star Trader, to name but a few. However, there is one ghost said to haunt Disneyland who is very famous and that spirit is Walt Disney himself!

Ghost of Walt Disney

There are two main locations where the ghost of Walt Disney is said to be seen. The first is in his apartment that is located above the Main Street Firehouse. From here, Walt would work or spend time with his family.

At one point it even had a fire pole where one could slide down. The apartment is still there today and a light is always on in memory of Walt Disney. However, don't get your hopes up of visiting there. It isn't open to the public.

Hauntings in Disneyland

The other place the ghost of Walt is seen at is the former Disney Gallery located above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Originally, this was going to be a suite for Walt. However, he passed away before it's completion.

For many years it served as a showcase for Disney artists and imagineers. After closing, it was turned into The Dream Suite in honor of The Year of a Million Dreams.

Disneyland Haunted Rides

A family favorite ride in Disneyland is It's a Small World. Originally created for the 1964 World's Fair, this delightful ride which features the catchy tune "It's a Small World After All," is also said to be haunted.

There are reports of lights turning themselves on and off by themselves and animatronics moving on their own after the ride has been shut down. Sounds pretty creepy to me.

Walt Disney Frozen

On December 15, 1966, Walt Disney passed away due to complications from lung cancer. His body was cremated and only a small funeral was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California

.Interestingly enough, a rumor has been going around for years which tells a different story. The rumor states that Walt Disney's body was cryogenically frozen and is currently being stored somewhere underground in Disneyland.

The most common belief is that he is somewhere under the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, awaiting the time a cure can be found and his body can be resurrected. Could this be the reason Walt Disney haunts Disneyland? Is he waiting for the day to come back to life?

As much as Disney fans may want to believe this, it appears to be nothing more than an urban legend. According to Snopes, this claim is false. What do you think?

Disney Ghost Stories

The Matterhorn Bobsleds, home to the Abominable Snowman, is yet another haunted location in Disneyland. It's reportedly haunted by the ghost of a woman named Dolly.

So I voted undecided but the only two rides that I'm sure are really haunted are the small town one where workers have reported dolls moving hours after Disneyland has closed and the the doom buggie ride where a boy is seen at the end of it

The title made me curious to look, as I have had a long day and needed a fun moment. Thank you! I would like to know more about those reported ghosts, how they appear to people, when, who the others were before they were ghosts and how they are thought to have landed in Disneyland.

What an interesting lens. I love Disney, but never had heard that before. Just that his body is frozen because he wants to stand up again when our medicine is ready for that... I can understand Disney that he don't want to leave this amazing place, I would do the same if I could...

OMG! most of these i didn know! i knew about the rumor because i am obsessed with disneyland (its like my second home lol) and i find these stories intereresting. One thing you forgot though: Disco Debby. she is a ghost that is report to be seen in Space Mountain. you can see her as a green glowing woman and some witnesses say that she will tell you to run and when you do, yu can hear a crash behind you as if something heavy fell. Creepy isn't it!? i just kinda love i and i am hoping to see one of these spirit.

Very interesting lens WriterJanis about Walt Disney. It is very possible that he still walks about and keeps an eye on his Magical Kingdom for everyone to enjoy and keeps the other ghosts in line. I wouldn't doubt it a bit! I have visited both Theme Parks and enjoyed Disneyland far greater. I guess it is due to it being the original and nothing can replace the original! Thank You for stopping by my Healthy Gluten-Free Oatmeal Vegan Muffins lens and giving it a "thumbs up" as I really appreciate it. Hope you enjoy the muffins with lots of butter on them. Imagineers have said that AA figures sometimes still have power left in their hydraulic systems and can move even after they have been shut off. Tony Baxter told of one particular chilling event after hours. And so I could see where things like Small World dolls moving and such could be true. As for real ghosts, who knows. Awesome lens.
