Weird Imagination

Updated on November 29, 2014

What the Mind Might See But Is It Real?

One night around 9 pm I was driving home along the Lane Cove River in Sydney towards West Pymble. It was a dark area with bush on both sides of the road with the river on the left and no street lights. Suddenly on the right above the trees there appeared an apparition. It was pink and in the shape of a woman.

The road was very lonely and mine was the only car and suddenly I had the urge to step hard on the accelerator. As the car sped forwards the apparition appeared to cross the road behind the car and there were definitely no lights around to shine on anything. It was clearly visible in the rear view mirror.

On arrival home I turned the radio on for some company and the speaker was talking about - wait for it - GHOSTS.

Who these days believes in Ghosts?

Well, I think I do for starters

The place where this one appeared was almost opposite to a site where a man and woman were found dead some years ealier. It was an amazing mystery which has only recently been solved.

The bodies were naked and draped with clothing. The man was a highly respected scientist from the University of New South Wales where I had attended and knew his best friend. The lady was a nursing sister in a major hospital in Sydney. They were both married to different people, both parents of young children, highly intelligent and alert, so why were they here? How did they die? Who was responsible? What killed them? The questions went on and on but there was no answer.

Forensics failed to find any trace of poisons. They had both vomited before death and the unclothed state suggested they had gone to this spot for a sexual encounter. They had left a party in the early hours of the morning where their spouses stayed on for some time.

Rumours were rife. Were they victims of LSD which he was known to be experimenting with? But there was nothing found in their blood streams to suggest drugs of any description. There were no injection pricks, no spider bites, no sign of trauma, and definitely no sign of violence. They had both consumed alcohol at the party but even that was not brought up as having had a major effect on them. Everything was ruled out as a cause and yet two people were dead.

It was about 10 years later that my apparition appeared. My mind switched to these deaths and wondered if something was trying to tell me something.

What Do You Think?

The evidence for ghosts seems pretty strong as many claim to have seen them. Some even claim to have photographs of them. There are also those people who appear to talk to the dead and get details of things unknown by others.

Fisher's Ghost

Another true story

Near Cambelltown, south west of Sydney, is a creek with a great ghost story attached to it. It started in 1826 when an ex convict was murdered and the legend continues to this day and has spawned a great festival for the town.

Year after year the apparition appears of a man pointing down to a certain spot on the mud flat below.

Here was found the body of Fred Fisher. He was murdered with an axe by a neighbour who stole his land and made up a story that Fred sold it to him and then went back to England. Fred was not rich and worked hard on his small acreage trying to make a better life for himself.

Media groups often gather at the bridge in the hope of capturing a photo or video of the ghost. Some have claimed to have it on film but gradually over the years the excitement and even talk of the ghost has faded into folklore but around the area the business of ghosts and rumour is very much alive.

But there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of stories about ghosts that have helped solve their own murders. So there must be some truth to it. So did I see a ghost? If so what was the purpose of it?

Australia's famous ghosts

Has any of the above changed your mind about ghosts?

The interesting side of a good ghost story is that one builds up fear and expectation. Some want to confront the entity while others run away. What would you do

Would you stand your ground and confront a ghost

It Might Have Been Gas

There appears to be an answer

It is now widely believed that the couple who died on that New Year's morning were in fact gassed. The river is the victim of pollution from big factories along its banks. It is now believed that illegal discharge of waste into the river caused carbon monoxide gas to be built up under certain conditions. This has been measured and noticed by others in the area.

In early morning hours the air is heavy around the river and the gas would not have a chance to disperse.

On the morning that the couple died it is now thought that the gas would have been concentrated around the place where they chose to hold their rendezvue. It is not detectable in the blood stream and as there were no injections sites and no other likely cause it seemed the most likely. Of course this gas is hard to detect with the nose and it induces sleep and then death.

Blood samples from the victims at the time showed up with a certain color which is identical to that of people poisoned with carbon monoxide. So the question has to be asked whether or not the earlier investigations were hushed up to keep the matter away from the public? This would have been essential to avoid prosecution for pollution of the environment and numerous claims for compensation. So if we go down that track who did the covering up and why? Was there money exchanged? Was the investigation carried out by corrupt cops?

It happened that a man walking his dog in the dawn saw the bodies and decided to cover them for decency sake before notifiying the police. That accounts for the clothes and cardboard being draped over the bodies.

Having a scientific mind I considered the possibility that the so-called apparition that I saw may well have been a cloud of gas lit up by the tail lights of my car. That would explain its colour and its movement across the road may have been triggered by the movement of air in the wake of the car driving forward. Well, what do you think?

If ghosts did not exist, then where did all the stories of ghost sightings from the dawn of time come from? I do believe they exist, but there are also probably many fanciful tales as well. Excellent lens, very creepy, blessed.

The ghostly couple could very well have had their death covered up the way you describe. That's scarier to me than than the ghosts themselves.

      Thank you!

I do believe in ghosts...and I do believe that some people actually can see them and talk to them... it's the same as believing in miracles, and they did happen in my life more than enough times to start to believe in them without trying to find an explanation. Everything we see or experience in our life sent to us for a reason.

I just don't know, are they real or do we just think they are, I think it is a personal choice. I don't like to say I don't believe, but do tend to lean that way. Maybe I just need a visit by one

I grew up in a haunted house and my entire family and people who visited had experiences there - a lot of our guests and friends (especially those who stayed overnight) told us about weird things happening when they did not already know that we thought it was haunted. I have experienced a few situations since that seemed like haunting possibilities, but nothing like the house I grew up in. This experience has made me more of a skeptic when I see or hear about possible paranormal activity - I am not predisposed to automatically believe it - my first instinct is to try to disprove it. I think most of the ghost shows on TV are fake - sadly, but not surprising since most of them are only there for a paycheck.
