Who will be the Followers of Dajjal (The False Messiah), a Major Sign of the End of World?

Updated on February 3, 2016

One of the major signs of the end of world is the coming of the Dajjal (False Messiah). He will be one of the great tribulations sent by Allah upon the Muslim Ummah. Before getting straight to his followers we must first know that who Dajjal (False Messiah) really is?

Who is Dajjal?

Dajjal is one of the sons of Adam which means he is a human, to whom Allah the Almighty will grant extraordinary powers/abilities that no one on this face of the earth will have. The reason of granting such massive powers to him will be to test the faith of people.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) warned us about Dajjal on many occasions as he will be the bringer of confusion and turmoil upon this Ummah.

Why He is famous by the name of Al-Maseeh Al-Dajjal?

The reason why he is called Maseeh is because his left eye is “Damaged or Wiped”. He is only able to see from one eye and the reason he is called by the name of Dajjal is that he'll be able to attract people towards him with his evil tricks and fraud.

How will the Dajjal look? (His physical description)

  • There will be letters written between his eyes “Kaafir” (Disbeliever). Those words will be only visible to the believers whether he is a literate or an illiterate.
  • Allah has made him sterile and he will have no children.
  • His forehead will be wide.
  • The skin color of Dajjal will be fair.
  • He will be able to see from his one eye only and will be blind from the other eye.
  • His hair will be curly and thick.
  • He will be short heighted and will be able to walk with his toes turned in.
  • He will have a gap between his legs.

Who will be his Followers?

Dajjal will be the possessor of many powers. Among these extraordinary abilities will be his ability to confuse people with his various misguiding tricks due to which many of the people will follow him and consider him divine. Majority of the people included in his follower will be Jews.

Anas ibn Maalik (r.a) reported that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said,

“Seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan will follow the Dajjal (False Messiah), wearing shawl like garments.” (Recorded by Muslim)

Isfahan mentioned over here is an Iranian city situated in the central Iran. Official sources say that there are approximately 25000 to 30000 Jews living in this city.

Below is the Lake Taberias (Sea of Galilee), which was mentioned in a Hadith by Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him). The Hadith was about the conversation that took place between Dajjal and a man named as Tameem Al-Daari and the thirty men of Lakhm & Judhaam. Dajjal mentioned to them; until and unless Lake Taberias is not dried up, I will not be unleashed.

Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee) is the largest freshwater lake situated in Israel. Over the period of time the lake has gradually started drying up.

The question here arises is that why majority of the followers of Dajjal will be Jews? Answer to that is, Jews believe that their Lord has promised them a Ruler/King who will be from the progeny of Dawood (Prophet David) and he will be the one who will establish a Jewish state for them.

Jews have been for long praying for their False Messiah to emerge and get them the state they want. Their prayers include various supplications for his arrival.

Are the Minor Signs according to Qur'an and Sunnah showing that we are moving rapidly towards the End of World?
