whose voice do you hear ?

Updated on September 10, 2010

Some months ago, I entered a lecture room and sat quietly with the intention of reading a material I had.  I could have gone to the university library but I decided to use any quiet lecture room for my study. About two or three students were reading in the lecture room when I entered and sat behind them.   In less than ten minutes that I entered and concentrated on the material, more students stayed coming into the lecture room and soon they started their campus mid-week fellowship. I did not know that students usually use the lecture room for their mid week and I was not prepared for it because I came there to study, without realizing that it was there fellowship venue. I could leave the room like some student did, if I wanted but I decided to stay and join them in worship. They were young students from different Christian denomination that normally come together for the sake of worship. It is possible that some of them may know me or have heard about my  book but I was like a stranger in their midst so I remained stranger and humbled myself to see what I can  learn  from  them because I know God speaks in various ways and through people. After some praises, and worship song, a prayer was sad then the group leader took over the podium. His main bible reading of the day was 1st Corinthians 14:10 “there are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.” he the read, John 10:27 and 1st Samuel 3:10 to support what he preached which that was despite we may hear various voice, we should be able to distinguish the true voice from the voice of the devil because a true son of God should tell the voice of his father. That was a good preach and I know that other preacher can interpret it in various ways so it follows that he preached it as he was led. However, I read the verse further and I pondered more on 1st Corinthians 14: 11, “ therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speakth a barbarian, and he that speakth shall be a barbarian unto me.” I came to realize that it is for this reason that some Christians make hate speeches against others Christians.  This is because they do not speak with the same voice; consequently some Christians allow their difference to bring division among them as they claim to have heard and interpreted the true word of God. Some Christians do not believe and teach against miracles, healing, heaven, and hell. This is because they did not hear such voice or have the gift to do such great works consequently it becomes wrong to teach about it. I read 1st Corinthians 12:1-31 and I realized that people have different gift and it is mostly as they desired. I am not against any Christian or religious doctrine but it is  a thing of concern that humanity will continually allow their differences to deny them the most common and basic virtues of all good religion which include love, unity, peace, justice, fairness , and equity. The task ahead of us is not an easy one therefore there is need for Christian unity and true religious tolerance and understanding if we are willing to foster this common virtues. But I am certain that some religious sect will continue to hear voices that they claim put them at variance with others; Voices that tell them to hate, condemn, persecute and kill others for religious sake. That is why I shall continue to ask us, “each time we desire the liberty to practice our religious belief  and to live and be left in peace, do we sincerely desire that others be given the same liberty?” some religious leaders will continue to make hate speeches against others while some will continue to force others to follow their religious ways and deny them the liberty to freely  practice and express their religion because they are not of the same voice. That is why I ask which voice do you hear?  But let us know that if young Christians from various Christian sects can come together just for the sake of worship then humanity can come together just for the sake of love, justice, unity, and peaceful co-existence.

You said it true.I would rather be a door keeper in the house of my God in comparison to being in the captivity of darkness.
