Why do Nigerian Politicians Call the Name of God?

Updated on February 10, 2017

Nigerian politicians and the Name of God

It has become a habit that politicians in Nigeria have formed, to always call the name of God, or link him with their doings. You hear them say things like; 'God has sent me to you people, it is God's will, it is God who has put me in this position,' or the most infamous one, that gets me so appalled; 'my enemies are against me, but God will fight for me.' I may not know much about the holy books, but I am sure they say something like ; 'Thou shalt not use the name of the Lord in vain.' But these politicians do not only use the name of the lord in vain, but they have made those statements that include his name so trite that they have become cliches!

We have turned into people who no longer have respect for values. They may not necessarily believe in God, but each time they make those bogus and disgusting statements, they make those who actually believe question their faith. They kill the little things that may just be the only things alive in those who believe. I mean how do you explain that the God who promised them life in abundance, and all the good things it has to offer turn around and give them leaders who steal from them, and sap the value of their lives out of them?

Nigerian leaders, You steal money, deprive people of their rights, make laws that you don't keep, and you say God is behind you? Just how low can you go?

We live our lives in Nigeria, always believing that all our actions are somewhat directed by a Supreme being. It becomes only natural, though inhumane that these polithievetians will try to exploit that belief.

Appreciate your point I do apologise if it sounded demeaning in any manner, reason I said ' no offence' is only because of way people react when you have a conflicting opinion with 'God' or 'Religion' in it. As for politicians there is no bad Karma and they have and they will continue to screw common man for their own gains. They simply dont care period

@joshi, you can't just say no offence, then it changes the fact that you insulted a people, you know just like these politicians call the name of God and think their sins are forgiven. Seriously, our politicians dey vex me, I won't be surprised if Ibori the criminal calls the name of God when giving a speech!

Simply because the mere utterance of word 'God' washes away their sins in the eyes of the brainwashed citizens and no offence but I can relate to this even in my country too, though on a different level.
