2013/14 Austrian Bundesliga Match-Day One Recap

Philipp Hosiner of Austria Wien

FK Austria Wien 2-0 Admira Wacker Modling

Generali Arena was the site of the opening match of the new season. FK Austria Wien needed two second half goals to earn the three points at home. After a scoreless first half Philipp Hosiner's right footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal in the 77th minute gave Austria a 1-0 lead. In stoppage time Maximilian Sax of Admira was called for a foul in the penalty box to set up Marko Stankovic's goal that gave Austria Wien a 2-0 home win.

RZ Pellets WAC 2-2 SK Rapid Wien

Rapid jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead behind Guido Burgstaller's goal in the 29th minute and Louis Schaub's goal in 37th minute. The fans in Lavanttal- Arena where surprised. RZ responded in 57th minute when Danijel Micic scored off Mihret Topcagic's header. As time was expiring Manuel Kerhe of RZ was fouled in the penalty box by Rapid's Harold Dichler. That set up a penalty shot from Michael Liendl, which he drilled into the bottom right corner leveling the match at 2-2. The match would end in a draw.

Jonathan Soriano of Red Bull Salzburg

SC Wiener Neustadt 1-5 FC Red Bull Salzburg

Salzburg put on a clinic in Stadion Wiener Neustadt. Jonathan Soriano of Red Bull scored three times and had one assist to pace everyone. His first goal came in 22nd minute when he took the pace from Christian Schwegler and drilled it into center of goal. Wiener would respond as Mario Pollhammer would score off a pass from Christoph Freitag in 30th minute. Soriano would put Red Bull back ahead two minutes later when his shot found the bottom right corner. Stefan Ilsanker assisted on that goal. He would open up the scoring in second half off a pass from Jakob Jantscher. That goal would come in bottom left corner in 55th minute. Soriano would assist on next goal as Kevin Kampl took the pass and buried it into the bottom right corner. Kampl would finish off the scoring in second half when he took Stefan Ilsanker's pass and put it in the bottom right corner in 84th minute. That is how match would end a 5-1 beat down by Red Bull.

Innsbruck 2-2 SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz

Over 7,000 fans packed the Tivoli Stadion Tirol to watch this final match of the first Match-Day. After a scoreless first half Sturm's Imre Szabics took Robert Beric's pass and put it into center of goal in 60th minute. Things were looking like a win for Sturm Graz until Stjepan Vuleta took a pass from Roman Wallner and buried it into the bottom right corner of the goal. Sturm was heartbroken and things would only get worse as Roman Wallner scored in the 86th minute to give Innsbruck a 2-1 lead. But Sturm Graz would be bailed out as Innsbruck's Christian Schilling scored an own goal to level the score at 2-2. That is how the match would end.

SV Scholz Grodig 0-0 SV Josko Ried

This match was marred by bad play as 13 yellow cards were handed out. Grodig received eight of those. A total of 53 fouls were conceded with Ried getting 30 of those. Ried had more chances with eight of there 18 shots on target. Grodig managed only seven attempts with only three being on target. Both clubs should fell bad after this match in Untersbergarena.
