2015 NFL Season Preview and Predictions--NFC South Division

Updated on October 7, 2015
Cam Newton and Greg Olsen always seem to be on the same page that's why they are successful.

Panthers

The lucky winner of the worst division in football was the Carolina Panthers. To their credit, someone had to do it, why not them. I always wonder what the Panthers are doing on offense. I have felt like they didn't do enough to give their QB any help. Cam Newton is s a special player but he can't do it alone. In 2014, the Panthers drafted WR Kelvin Benjamin. Benjamin gave Cam that top receiver he desperately needed on the outside. It's very disappointing that Benjamin has been lost for the year due to injury. It would have fun to see them grow together in another year together. The Panthers still have Cam's safety blanket, tight end Greg Olsen. Olsen is a playmaker but he will need help. They are hoping 2nd round pick Devin Funchess can be ready sooner than later.

The Panthers have a top 10 defense and its the main reason why they won this division. The rest of the teams have terrible defenses and it's that plain and simple. It's why I pick them to win this division again. Their defense is the class of the NFC South and that will propel them to back to back divison titles.

We were just as surprised as you Drew. The Saints were the biggest disappoint in 2014.

Saints

The Saints will try to rebound from a disappointing 2014 season. Sean Payton took a hard look at this roster and decided their needed to be major changes. He shocked everyone by trading TE Jimmy Graham. There was a thought that Drew Brees could be on his way out. That would have been crazy. The Saints have an explosive offense even with the loss of Jimmy Graham. The question is can they play defense. I don't know. They were pretty bad in 2014 and nothing they've done in the offseason makes you believe they have gotten better. I think they will be in the mix in this division because it is terrible. I don't think they have enough to get past the Panthers.

It will be only a matter of time before Matt Ryan gets sick of Kyle Shanahan.

Falcons

On offense the Falcons are one of the most talented teams in the league. They just don't deliver in big games. After an embarrassing home loss that cost them the playoffs, the Falcons decided to make a coaching change. I think it was the right time for the change. Out goes Mike Smith and in comes Dan Quinn from Seattle. I think this was a terrible hire for the team. Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks but that defense is run by Pete Carroll. The Falcons will realize it the same way the Jaguars did when they hired the defensive coordinator before Quinn. To make matters worse, they hire Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator. This is Shanahan's third team in 3 years. That's not good. I don't know what's more amazing that he keeps getting jobs or that teams keep wanting to hire him. It's good that his father is Mike Shanahan because I don't know that he'd keep getting opportunities if it wasn't. I don't see this ending well for the Falcons and their fan base should expect some dark times.

Coaching stability

After the 2015 season what will be Kyle Shanahan's fate?

Jameis Winston has his work cut out for him in Tampa. If they are patient and he stays out of trouble the payoff could be huge.

Buccaneers

Lovie Smith had a rough first year as Head Coach of the Buccaneers. It was expected but shockingly enough they had a chance to win the division. They have a chance in this awful division. I believe that the Bucs can improve, a lot will depend on how fast Jameis Winston picks up the NFL game. He has the tools to be a successful QB in the league, the questions are always off the field with this guy. He has the right coach to help him get things straight. He is blessed with two solid big targets in Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans. This team could be scary in two years. I just think its gonna take time for them to pick up Lovie's defense thrown in with Winston's growth. I just think they are going to deal with a lot of growing pains in 2015.

We are close on the top 3 teams but have different takes on the Buccaneers. I think their struggle continues this year and they have them as a 8-8 team.
