NXT Superstars With the Most Main Roster Potential
If you haven't seen an episode of NXT TV or an NXT Takeover event then WHAT ARE YOU DOING? NXT is WWE's developmental brand where talent arrive in the company and are prepped for the Main Roster (RAW and Smackdown LIVE). However, many fans are now saying that NXT does not seem like a developmental brand at all especially with the incredible NXT Takeover events which sometimes outperform the Main Roster pay-per-view events. The roster in NXT is bigger than it has ever been and each day more talent is arriving at The WWE Performance Center which means that the current talent on NXT TV will sooner than later see their promotion to the WWE Main Roster. NXT is filled with incredible talents which leave many fans wondering which one of those talents is poised for major success on WWE's flagship brands, RAW and Smackdown LIVE. Let's get into analyzing just who those talents may be!
Ricochet is just simply amazing. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the talent that Ricochet has. Standing at 5ft 9 inches tall and weighing 196 lbs; many fans must already think that his size will hold him back from Main Roster success. However, I have strong hope for The One And Only Ricochet. He has the look that will make any lady shook with awe and his mic skills are getting better as seen on NXT. His in-ring skills are just on another level than any talent in the WWE and even though he is small, he has shown that he can work very well with bigger talent. Even though I know that WWE has its cruiserweight division and he is clearly under the 205 limit, I think WWE brass will see the potential in Ricochet on the Main Roster. If Rey Mysterio and Finn Balor can get away with wrestling the bigger talent and winning the main world championships then why can't Ricochet do the same. His entrance music and in-ring style presents him like a super hero and he would easily become popular with the children audience. Give him some cool looking super hero merchandise and the kids will buy the crap out of it. Put him in the ring with the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and he will absolutely steal the show.
What a story the former Derrick Bateman had since leaving WWE. From being on NXT's reality show format to leaving WWE and joining TNA, becoming a top star and winning the TNA World Championship. Now known as EC3, he has made his return to the new wrestling oriented format of NXT. EC3 always had the charisma and the look that WWE would want in a superstar but seemed to lack the in-ring quality in which they were looking for. However, when he left WWE and joined TNA he improved tremendously in all aspects including his look, mic-skills and in-ring skills. The dude is chiseled out of stone and is exactly what a WWE Superstar should look like. We haven't seen the standout performance from EC3 yet in NXT but seeing his TNA work, we know that he is very capable of performing in the ring with the very best. His mic work in NXT has been tremendous so far that many people compare him to The Miz, who in my opinion is the second best on the mic in WWE behind Samoa Joe. EC3 is clearly built for the Main Roster and doesn't really need any more seasoning that other talents may need. Imagine a feud with John Cena, The Miz or even his old NXT Pro, Daniel Bryan. The opportunities are endless with the Top One Percent of the Business, EC3.
Adam Cole Bay Bay! Who is another superstar that could easily transition to the Main Roster any day, it is none other than Adam Cole. Adam Cole has accomplished alot since coming to NXT becoming the first ever NXT North American Champion and also the first person to hold two different NXT titles at the same time (with the NXT North American Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championship). He came in to NXT and immediately formed the Undisputed Era with Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish and now added Roderick Strong to the group. Standing at 6ft and weighing 210 lbs, Adam isn't the biggest of Superstars but he certainly performs like he is. Other than his size Adam has all the qualities of a top WWE Superstar, the look, the in-ring skills, the mic skills, charisma, etc. He is one of the biggest stars if not the biggest star on the NXT brand and judging by his success thus far it seems WWE officials know that as well. Dream matches with Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Nakamura, Ziggler are waiting for him on the Main Roster. Much like his good friend Kevin Owens I think Adam Cole will be one of those stars that will be too good, to not push at a high level in WWE.
No man is ever truly good, No man is ever truly evil; the words of the theme song of the NXT Champion, Aleister Black. From the time the first note hit on his theme song fans already knew that Aleister would be a big deal in the WWE. His presence and look is much compared to the presence of The Undertaker. The man from Amsterdam, Netherlands has put on classics in NXT with The Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano and more. He has also shown that he is improving tremendously on the microphone even though in my opinion, I think his character should not talk much at all. He would perfectly transition into a major role on the Main Roster and find great success.
Could not write this list without including the most popular and talked about NXT star as of late, Mr. Johnny Wrestling, Johnny Gargano. Johnny has been on fire as of late in his popular feud with his former best friend Tommaso Ciampa. The feud has been perfect thus far with Gargano picking up the first win in a Dave Meltzer rated 5-star match and Ciampa picking up a win in a hellacious street fight match. Gargano is a very likeable character much compared to that of Daniel Bryan. He is the perfect underdog and it is very hard to not root for him in any feud he is in. He has shown that he can deliver very passionate promos just like Bryan again and is an incredible performer who seems like he can't have a bad match. Gargano though he is small can definitely transition to the main roster and hang with the big guys. His success in NXT thus far must have WWE officials watching him very closely.
Tommaso Ciampa is probably the best heel in wrestling today. The heel reactions this man receives from the NXT crowd are insane. He is simple, with no entrance music, blank facial expression, no flashy ring gear, nothing. He actually told WWE that he did not want any merchandise to be sold in order to live up to his heel persona of not caring about fans. Tommaso is exactly what every heel in this industry should strive to be. Especially these days when it seems there are no full heels or full faces. If Ciampa was a bit taller and a bit heavier there is no doubt that he would be at the top of WWE right now. However, I think there is still a chance for major success for Ciampa on the Main Roster. What WWE needs is a good heel and that man is Tommaso Ciampa, there is no one else like him and he would enhance any brand he is apart of.
The Velveteen Dream
A man who even John Cena said he thinks has a big future in WWE. The Velveteen Dream had a pretty cool journey to WWE appearing first on WWE's reality show, Tough Enough by his name Patrick Clark and having prior independent wrestling experience. He was eliminated on the show which genuinely shocked me as I thought he was the obvious choice to win the show. However, he was still signed to WWE's developmental brand, NXT starting out as a normal guy wearing USA pants and then transitioning into the character he is today, The Velveteen Dream. When the NXT audience first saw this character many thought he was bound to fail but Dream did not let them deter him. His feud with Aleister Black was absolutely perfect and was voted NXT's feud of the year in 2017. It made the crowd see the absolute brilliance of his character and his potential for the future. He has shown how amazingly talented he is in the ring and his mic skills are improving day by day. On top of all that he is only 22 years old which means he is nowhere near his prime.
