5 Reasons Why I don't Like Ice Hockey

Updated on August 23, 2017

I don't Like Ice Hockey. There, I said it. I really don't!

It's not as much that I don't like it, I just simply am not interested in it. At all. But then again, if you ask me if I like it, I would have to say I don't :-)

I live in a city where hockey is VERY popular. I live in a city where NHL star Anze Kopitar comes from. This city literally lives for the game. In my city everyone is expected to like hockey. And I simply don't :-) Let me explain why.

My Husband is a Big Hockey Fan

Should I pretend to be one to, only to spend more time with him?

Ok, ice hockey may be easier to watch than soccer (don't get me started on that), since they do score once every ten minutes or so, but on the other hand soccer players are much more easy on the eye...

My husband loves hockey. A lot. He watches the matches at home and frequently goes to see them play live too. In the beginning he often asked me to come along, but after saying no almost every time ;-) he got the hint and does not invite me any more. It got me thinking just the other day, if I should pretend liking the sport just for his sake, but then why lie about this? I am not really sure whether or not it is a good thing to support your man in his "obsession", so I made a list of things I don't like about this sport. Here it is:

Ice is Cold
Ice is Cold

1. Ice is Cold!

Brrrrrr!

I don't like being cold. I think that goes for majority of women. The feeling of being cold is the most terrible in the world. And from my experience (yes, I have been to a hockey game - once) you can not dress enough to be worm at the hockey match. Ok, I suppose that cheering might get you a little bit warm, but how do you expect me to cheer, if I don't even like the game ;-)

2. The Players Always get into Fights

Ouch!

I don't like to watch people fighting. And those guys do fight! A lot! It seems to me that all they do all the course of the game they look for the opportunities to start a fight. And they get at it almost every five seconds. Excuse me, but I really do not find it charming seeing guys fist fighting, not to mention teeth flying ... I'll pass.

3. Sweaty Jerseys

Oh Man that Stinks!

Although, as I have already established, being on the ice leaves you feeling cold, I am also aware of the fact that hockey players are not cold. Not even close. All of that skating and fist fighting makes them hot. Sweaty. Which normally I would find appealing if this was to involve some shirtless guys. But seeing those guys all wrapped up in plastic and in all that padding, perpirating and their long hair glued to the side of their face... They must be sweating like p..s (excuse the language) in there. I bet you none of the professional hockey players' wives work. They all stay at home, only to be able to manage all those piles of sweaty jerseys.

I am not the only one! For more on the subject, please follow this link:

4. Hockey Players are not that Attractive

In their Hockey Gear I mean...

I just don't think they are. So sue me! I mean I have never seen an attractive hockey player. And before you judge: I really don't watch hockey games, but I do watch "The Hottest" list on E! And I have never seen any hockey players being mentioned there. Soccer players on the other hand ... But those hockey players all look big and scary looking (I KNOW that in real life they are not, I'm just talking when on the ice) and with their mean (or are they just tired from all that skating) eyes. Sorry, but not a pretty sight in my book.

I am not the only one (although I think they are slightly exaggerating):

5. Puck is a Very Dangerous Object

Ouch again!

I don't have to tell a lot about this, a picture can tell a thousand words. But anyway - they have a plexi glass wall, but it can happen. Puck can fly out from the ice and into the crowd. Let me say no more :-)

Hockey Still Not my Favorite Sport, but I Must Add

Anze Kopitar is The Best :-)

I like the finesse -- the passing and the crazy nuts goals and saves that no human should be able to do.

I like ice skating so I think it is fun watching people race around. I'm always impressed because it's not as easy as it looks.

It's the fastest game in the world, but I guess if you didn't grow up watching it then it can be hard to follow. I used to love going to the stadium to watch my brother play.

@Commandrix: I wanted to write a lens in sports category and this is the only thing I could come up with :-). Huge fan of all the sports - NOT ;-) Glad I'm not the only one though. And I know absolutely nothing about cricket, so I'm going to check your lenses right away.

I like the atmosphere at a live hockey match. Everyone seems to get involved in a happy way! I also like that it's fairly fast! Most sports bore me to tears!

Good to know there's another person here who isn't a HUGE fan of sports. I have a few Lenses on Cricket but that doesn't mean I'm a total nut about it. I never could get into hockey, either, so I guess that makes two of us.
