A Superb Simulation Gaming Device: The Logitech G27 Racing Wheel
Before I start singing praises of the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel I must confess I do not own it, even though I want to own this wonderful gaming device by Logitech. Two days ago I was participating in a Blur multiplayer tournament organized by a local gaming station. The tournament was sponsored by ActiVision and Logitech. Activision was responsible for the games and Logitech supplied the equipment. Out of 150 players only 10 could make it to the final level. I was lucky enough to be amongst these ten. Logitech had provided Gaming Mice and Gaming Keyboards for the initial levels and those who could make it to the final level the equipment was a surprise.
As a part of promotion we were given the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel. I must also confess I had never ever played a game with a Racing wheel and more than the excitement of making it to the final level the anxiety of this new device doomed over me.
However, the Logitech G27 Racing wheel is definitely the best tool for simulation gaming. More so while playing racing and driving games. The leather wrapped and steel adorned 11 inch Logitech G27 racing wheel lends a very real and genuine “feel” of driving. There are six buttons mounted on the steering wheel that can be programmed by the player for whichever function he wants them to perform. The band of LED lights right above the steering wheel warns the player for rpm and ideal shifts. Though not many games support the LED feature of the Logitech G27 Racing wheel there are a few games that do such as rFactor and Stream and in near future every racing will support these features.
There are three pedals for brake, clutch and throttle. The brake and clutch pedals stand off from the throttle paddle to avoid confusion and situations when the driver in anxiety presses throttle clutch and brake together. The paddles can be adjusted to there right or left. This gives the players more control over their cars making heel and toe braking much more convenient.
The gear box of the Logitech G27 racing wheel or the shifter as it is more popularly called has a softer and smoother feel. It works quite similar to an actual cars gear box with an “H” pattern shifting. Throughout the final level I kept thinking how much I wanted to buy this Logitech G27 racing wheel and how fun will it be to have it at my home attached to my own Xbox. I lost the race and reached the finishing line at the seventh place (yes there were three others who were daydreaming like me). A hour long session with the Logitech G27 racing wheel were sufficient to know the potential an efficiency of the wheel. The is a superb gaming device particularly for those who are fans of racing and simulation gaming. Logitech G27 Racing Wheel
