Zambian Fans - 2017 under 20 AFCON
Inspired by Junior Chipolopolo
Have you ever watched the so called beautiful game. Well there are many beautiful games but only one has taken that title wholly; football, others will call it soccer whichever you comfortable with am fine with that.
Football is one of the great games that Always gets people United. I come from the land of Zambia which others may not know where that country is but to stress you not, it is in the southern part of Africa. Football in Zambia is miles ahead of any other sport in terms of recognition and it is one that almost everyone follows.
In 2017 Zambia hosted the under 20 Africa Cup of Nations which brought the whole country at standstill. Every time the junior Zambia national team also known as the junior Chipolopolo or Copper bullets took to the pitch, stadiums were filled to full capacity from the first whistle to the last whistle. Football brought the country together and United. People forgot about their differences, their political affiliations, religious beliefs and race and stood in one accord for the boys who were representing the nation on one of the big stages on the continent.
As a fan, you would see how much it meant to the players and how much they loved the moment and everything that came with it even with the high pressure on their shoulders perhaps I should say in their legs, they cherished it! You could see it from their faces how determined they were for a great presentation and the pride they had to represent their mother country, Zambia.
At some point you would wonder what was motivating them that much to put on such great performances across the whole tournament but of course no one would blame them if they had said, it was because of the senior Chipolopolo that won the African Cup of Nations in 2012 in Guinea when they beat Ivory Coast in the nervy nail biting penalty shootouts to lift Zambia's first ever African Cup in her history.
The junior Chipolopolo showed the same zeal and focus throughout the tournament and they did their part by pulling more crowds and putting the whole country at a 'Nation United' all because of football hence football Always Unites the divided.
A match can not be a match if there is no ball. A match can not be a match if there are no opponents as well as a match can not be a match if the ball has not come from the goalkeeper who saved the ball, passed it to his or her defenders, the defenders passing it to the midfielders, the midfielders passing it to the strikers and the strikers finishing off the great move of one voice of scoring in the opponents goal that is the same way we should at least move as a people.
Let us play football and let us be United as we are always one people no matter the outside colour of your skin, we all bleed red, we still one people and one voice of unite is all we need in everything we do. We may have our differences, our ups and downs but we should always remember we still need to look after one another and help one another to conquer all obstacles.
