2017 Atlantic Sun Mens Basketball Tournament

Updated on February 25, 2017

The 2017 Atlantic Sun Tournament will kick off on Monday February 27, 2017 with four games. With History showing that the conference is likely to receive only one bid for the NCAA Tournament everything comes down to these games for the schools.

Florida Gulf Coast comes in as the #1 Seed with a 12-2 conference record and a 23-7 overall record. They will be challenged by the #2 Seed Lipscomb with a 11-3 conference record and 19-12 overall seed. I would say 95% chance your Atlantic Sun Tournament champion will be one of these schools. With that said we always see some crazy stuff come tournament time. #3 Seed North Florid, #4 seed USC Upstate and #5 Seed Kennesaw State will do their best to upset the higher seeds and punch their own ticket to the Dance.

#1 Florida Gulf Coast VS # 8 Stetson

Junior Brandon Good Win leads Florida Gulf Coast with 18ppg and in their two regular season wins over Stetson he has scored 38 points. Florida Gulf Coast should win this game and advance but could we see a big upset, with a combine 11 points over their first two victory's this game can be closer than they would like it to be.

Stetson has a pair of players that can help them earn the upset. Sophomore Derick Newton 17.8 ppg and Junior Divine Myles 16.6 ppg lead the team in scoring.

Game will be close much of first half but see Florida Gulf Coast pulling away to win by 12 at home.

#2 Lipscomb vs #7 NJIT

Sophomore Garrison Mathews leads Lipscomb in their matchup with NJIT. Lipscomb has had no problem in their two victory's against NJIT this season winning by a combined 28 points.

No NJIT player averages more than 15 ppg and they will need someone to step up and have a very big game if the hope to have their season continue.

Do not see this game being all that interesting. Lipscomb should control tempo and finish the day with a solid 15 point win at home.

#4 USC Upstate vs #5 Kennesaw State

Easily the best matchup of the first day. Both teams have a victory against each other with USC Upstate getting a six point win at home.

USC Upstate will need Senior Michael Buchanan 16.2ppg 9.5rbg to have a big game if they plan on advancing.

Kennesaw State are lead by Two seniors. Kendrick Ray 20.9ppg and double-double man Aubrey Williams 11.0 RPG 13.3 PPG. Williams has a six game double-double streak going.

This will be a game to watch if you like Atlantic Sun basketball or college basketball in general. I believe Kennesaw State will get the win and advance to meet Florida Gulf Coast squeaking out a two point win to keep their NCAA dreams alive.

#3 North Florida vs #6 Jacksonville

Senior Dallas Moore brings his 23.8PPG to the tournament looking to help North Florida advance to the NCAA Tourney. North Florida has won both matchups this season with a combined 20 point margin. Moore has scored 49 points in those two games.

Senior J. R. Holder for Jacksonville has struggled with only 23 points in those games. He is averaging 17.8 ppg to lead the club.

Think game will be interesting for awhile but North Florida should pull out the win and advance. North Florida by 8.
