Fantasy Football is for the ultimate NFL fan. There is no magic algorithym, but there are some things to increase the chance of getting the winning teams correc

Fantasy football is a great way to get engaged with the NFL when it’s not Sunday afternoon or Monday night. Even with the input of Thursday night games, there is still never enough during the regular season.

Add the playoffs, wild card games and final AFC and NFC championship games and the season stretches just a little further. Supposedly no one cares about the All Star game after Superbowl, but it is still football at it's best. Fantasy football was created to fill in those holes left by regular season. People loved it, including males and females.

Why it has appeal

Americans simply love the game of fantasy football and the fan base has continued to grow each year since its inception. The ability to control a professional NFL team crew of men is a dream come true for a lot of sports loving Americans.

Putting together a personal choice of every person on a squad, both offense and defense is a fantasy within itself. Add to it the special teams and other frills and the reverie called fantasy is born.

Play against other teams in a private league and build the ultimate marvel or nightmare. Picking out the cream of the crop from the hundreds of competitors is a feat attempted each week by every participant.

How it all began

The modern vehicle used for molding a fantasy squad of men is actually traced back to a tailgate party at a Raiders Game. This was a cross country trip planned as a get together with a couple of friends. With miles of boredom ahead and the excitement of seeing an NFL game, a great idea came to mind. Building a team based on an imaginary squad.

From the quarterback to the kicker. Include special teams and even swallow the defeat of injured players selected in haste. Trades and other ad lib changes were made at a later date.

The ground work for the rules and guidelines followed by all modern day fantasy players developed out of this blend of ultimate fans. There are those online sites which play for money, but this is subject to change shortly. Rule and regulations connected with gambling are applied and unique to every state. Fantasy leagues generally are not limited by state which makes it no small task to get this part of the idea organized.

Quick overview of how to play

The goal is to pick the team or players owning the best stats during any given week of play. The combination of statistical numbers for all chosen squad members determines a winner or a loser for fantasy playing.

The player with the top numbers in total when combining all of the team's squad members take first place and the lowest is in last. Teams are arranged moving throughout the league for each position (or an entire squad such as defense or special teams).

Statistical numbers come from actual NFL team play. For example, if the San Diego Chargers quarterback for the season through threw a total of three interceptions during this weeks game and this is the quarterback for a particular player's fantasy lineup these are this player's stats for the week when calculating the total team numbers.

Each position of an actual NFL squad lineup is selected and each one counts in the final equation. The combination makes for nail biting and an overall good time.

Who to compete against

Choices are made by individual players trying to win against friends, family or even strangers. Depending on which site data or stats are organized determines how the games are played.

For the most part the rules and arrangement mirrors the actual NFL. The AFC and NFC are followed as well as the division configurations. There are no retired players on file, only current ones. Additionally, where a participant ranks among like competitors affects stats as well.

In other words, if a kicker is ranked 16th out of 22 this give an overall score lower than most. This holds unless the kicker participates in a game winning score or is traded to a more impressive team or even hurt during regular season.

Nearly every player sets up shop with the intention of making it to the show...the Superbowl. There are those who make it and others who do not. Regardless of who does or does not, the fun of it all is what makes things delightful and why it has lasted so many years.

Women have become and enormously large part of the audience participating in the competition. Surprisingly the fairer sex is just as good as the veteran guys when it comes to choosing the right competitors, defenses, special teams and quarterbacks for winning.

The success of a fantasy football player relies on making better choices with selections than the opponents for a given week. How those selections are made depends upon a algorithm of numbers.

Nearly every player believes in owning the winning fantasy football formula. Putting a strategy in place to achieve the best single one is not a simple task. In fact, there is more than one way to get the best tactic or plan of action.

Just as every individual player in the league has an enormous amount of ingrained talent among other things is a skill-set to get to the ultimate realm of play, the Superbowl. The fantasy fan is honing a personal set of skills to win as well.

Part of the expertise is having enough data about the players or participants chosen to make the most informed and educated guesses when it comes to getting on the field every Sunday or Monday night game. Now Thursdays and even Holidays are in the mix as well.

Success or not losing is actually a little bit of everything. Most people admit the winning one or main focus is stats. These encompass professional fantasy players who hunker down and pore over the NFL team’s readiness based on things such as first downs or plays in the red zone. More than anything take a look into each player picked for a team personal positive and negative numbers on the field at home and away.

Never forget those things like special team’s stats and probably the owner’s historical standings if this information is at hand. The culmination of all of this is how an educated guess is created.

After these things, as if studying for the MCATs or medical school admission tests, makes participants feel as if the ideal NFL team has been built from the ground up. Every slot or position based on these gives a projection on paper of a great outcome of winning a fantasy football team league competition.

The belief is through the numerical data alone a player has finally found what it takes to be a winner. The other contributions such as injuries, health, veteran vs. rookie status or even luck have an impact. Even trades are eligible in the game strategy.

There are the superstitious folks who plays. These individuals take a quick look at stats to have some sort of actual "proof" to back up the decisions made. There are times when numbers are twisted to make them prove or disprove a certain thing.

Though, the ultimate choices on who to play, pick up or sit out for the season is based on personal football superstitions. These are mostly applied with no method to the madness in nearly all cases.

For instance, analyzing a game play with statements such as “He doesn’t play good every second season. Since this is his fourth trade in the league his play will definitely be better next season with this team” (what?!). This makes little or no sense to the average person, but to the fantasy player choosing to bypass the team member it certainly does.

How about “Count him out. That one cannot return any kicks his first six months after getting the flu on a Wednesday” or “he sucks when they play in football throw back jerseys” or “This guy whenever he is wearing his lucky socks always makes the extra point. Each and every time the game is played in temps above 20 degrees”. I of the most amazing things is seeing games one or lost using these tactics which are based more on superstition than fact .

These are fantasy players who absolutely and positively according to stats have any wins under the belt, but certainly do. Whether these have data actually backing up the assumptions or not.

Breaking new ground

Imagine discovering how to use a practice or method no one has heard of before and achieving positive results. Outside of the general stats algorithm or underwriting it works. Without crossing fingers and toes it works and no matter if the team is outside or inside of a dome, it works.

How many games would anyone imagine this joker to win. Initially none, but by trying all sorts of different ones there is always the possibility of the ultimate one falling into anyone's lap. When the combo does come to fulfillment, sharing it is going to be extraordinarily lucrative in the money department.

This is a big game sport with even Vegas odds on everything associated with the real game parallel to the fantasy ones.

Even the superstitious fellow occasionally throws in some type of material laying a groundwork to support his assumptions based on data or facts. This is one where none of these things apply.

The emotional state of a member of the NFL comes into play with winning and losing for this particular type of individual. They want to know who is getting divorced, the center attending his sister’s confirmation this week and what tight-end is going to be a father for the first time or got their wedding called off.

The scheme embraces foolishness like if a kicker bought a house with blue trim on a Wednesday. This tells this person, for some reason only unbeknownst to this person, if he will or won’t play well this season. Which combination is a winning one and which one leans the opposite direction is only seen by the player making the call with their fantasy team.

Of course this person is working toward locating the very best formula for getting a better team than others in their league. However, there is something to be said for even glancing at the stats to make an informed decision about your NFL team and players. Even the fellow checking out the wind speed and throw back jerseys has a little more credibility than this guy.

Mixture approach

Last but certainly not least is the fellow putting into play a combination of more than a few avenues mentioned here or blending a couple or more of those heard of via word of mouth. He sometimes even tries out using several from the web or combining all of these into a sort of hodgepodge. All of these make up his formula and creates the NFL team dreams are made of.

Bring it all together each week

In conclusion

The NFL has to thank the inventor and all of the predecessors with the gift of contributing to the first cross country band of brothers putting it all together. Since a player needs to follow all of the teams, each week of the NFL season there have been more fans watching more of the games than ever before as fantasy football has a population that is continuing to soar.

I would LOVE to start doing fantasy football. I used to hate football because I thought it was boring. My son started playing a few years back and that's when I really got into it. I'm now officially the Madden Queen in my house full of boys lol.

This cracks me up:). I grew up with all females so no boys to learn football. My husband is a fanatic and splays Fantasy - I finally decided to play because if you can't bear them join them, right? So the first year I chose my players based on: cuteness! They had to be cute or have a nice face, so ething like that...or because I liked the ring of his name:->. Haha the guys were so mad when I eneded up in 1st place week one:) lol. I've been playing ever since! Haha! I won the survivor league last year! So the guys will not let me play during the reular season - they will only let me play in the play off's and the guy who runs it told me because they don't want to get beat by a girl!! Makes me mad...
